Unique way to see Chicago!

All of the positive reviews that I read on site before I booked the tour are so true. It was a unique and interesting way to see parts of Chicago that are off Michigan Ave. We booked our tour on a Thursday. We ended up being the only two on the tour and it was so great to have the guide to ourselves! Our guide, Nikki, was so nice to spend three hours with. She really gave us a great tour. Every shop that we stopped in offered not only a delicious tasting but interesting information as well. We liked it so much and hope Chicago Foods will add more tours of other parts of the city. We loved the tour !

Repeating the Food Tour and Still Lovin' It
Sun, Oct 11  11:00 AM vlwashesq Female 40-49 Local Group of Friends
I am a transplant from Balto, MD. Every time I have company from my hometown, I bring them on this tour. One of my guests had taken the food tour last year on his yearly visit to Chicago, but wanted to take it again with another friend of ours who was also visiting. I pointed out that the food tour company had another tour we could try (Bucktown/Wicker Park), but he said that he wanted to repeat this one. He loved Old Town Oil and the Spice Shop and wanted to stock up again on oils, vinegars, and spices on the tour! So, that, of course, means that I have been on this exact same tour several times including the previous month in September when I had a visitor from Baltimore. I LOVE this tour. Jenn was my guide both times and she was excellent - so much energy, passion, and knowledge about the city and the food. The merchants that we visit are welcoming and have outstanding, quality products. I am looking forward to taking the Bucktown/Wicker Park tour in November. I have no doubt that it will be awesome.

EMILY WAS AN OUTSTANDING TOUR GUIDE
Sat, Oct 11, 08   12:00 PM vlwashesq Female 40-49 Local Group of Friends
This is the second Near North tour that I have taken in the past 2 mos. It just so happens that Emily was my tour guide both times. The tour is outstanding in every way. Emily is a delightful tour guide - she is very knowledgeable, funny and handles the group well. I can't say enough about how wonderful Emily is. Also, all of the store owners on the tour treat us very well. They provide plenty of food/tastings so it feels like a great value for the tour price. I did alot more shopping this time and the shops are definitely places that I will return to, even if I am not on the tour. I am originally from Baltimore, MD and I have guests all summer long. I just discovered it in August, but I will take every guest on this tour and when they come a second time, I will take them to the Bucktown/Wicker Park tour. I didn't even know about that tour, but Emily mentioned it and I am hoping to experience it soon. If you have any information that you can send - perhaps even the tour itinerary (like the map, tour stops, etc.) I would love to take a look at it and use it to persuade some friends who are local to join me. Also, if you have information on any of the other tours that you offer in Chicago, I would love to have it as well. My name is Vickie L. Wash.

Very Enjoyable - Great for Out of Town Guests
Fri, Aug 22, 08   11:30 AM vlwashesq Female 40-49 Combination Group of Friends
The tour was outstanding. Our guide, Emily, knew a tremendous amount of information about landmarks on the walking tour as well as the food that we actually tasted. The variety of food for tasting was perfect. I think our tour time went over a bit beyond the slated timeframe, but no one seemed to mind. The different locations chosen for the tastings were all very receptive to us and treated us well. The all had the tastings prepared upon our arrival. All the food/drink/spices that were offered were excellent. I will bring all of my out of town guests on this tour and I will likely make purchases from the vendors in the near future. The tour materials were great - especially the coupons. My only criticism is the fact that it is a little complicated to get back to where we started, but we decided to walk and the map was helpful.

Something different

I visit Chicago every year and each time I try to find something different to do. This was a very enjoyable afternoon. The guide was informative and fun! I would highly recommend this tour not only to visitors but to locals looking for something unusual!

Overpriced!
Fri, Nov 28, 08   11:30 AM vkylakos Male 30-39 Combination Family With Children
Way too expensive compared to the amount of food and cultural info included. The only substantial food item was the slice of pizza that was served almost in the end of the tour. The tour kept us hungry to that point while the impression from the brochures was that the food tasting samples would keep the hunger away.

I highly recommend this tour

I live locally and went on this tour with my Mother and two aunts. It was a highlight for all of us and one of the most unique and fun tours I've taken while living in Chicago. Our tour guide was upbeat, thoughtful and kept us engaged the entire time. Although we didn't walk fast, be prepared for a lot of walking and standing. You only sit down two times during the 3 hour tour; 10 min halfway and 20 minutes toward end of the tour. The tour says wheelchair friendly, however, in most of the establishments, you must be able to walk up and down stairs while leaving wheelchairs and strollers aside.

Fun walk, great shops, and delicious tastings
Sat, Aug 23, 08   12:00 PM violasse Female 20-29 Domestic Tourist(s) Couple on a Date
If you enjoy unique shops and eating food, this is an event you'd probably like. I do not usually like walking tours because I prefer to move at my own pace, but this one grabbed my eye and held it the entire time. The walk is long-ish, but goes at a slow to very moderate pace; your attention is drawn to cultural and architectural specimens along the way and the myriad tastings allow for periodic refueling. Go with a friend or fellow foodie for a worthwhile experience. (But be prepared to go back in person or online to buy some of the goods you saw along the tour; there is no time to make purchases along the way.)

Wonderful way to visit neighborhoods
Mon, May 19, 08   11:00 AM Vince10 Male 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
The food and beverage tastings were great, but the real value is in the visits to the different neighborhoods. Feel like we got a great feel for Chicago by walking through different areas. Our guide, Nikki, was wonderful. In addition to knowing a lot about the food and beverages we sampled, she knew a lot of the history and architecture of the areas we toured. Lots of walking, but well worth it. We ended up going back to some of the places we visited to shop later in the day.
