I had never done a food tour and did not know what all to expect but the positive reviews garnered my attention. I was not disappointed! First off, it was nice to a different side of Chicago, this area was a more residential, trendy, independent stores area. The food was absolutely fabulous. When I read "food tasting", I was not expecting to be offered the quantities of food that each place offered. I can eat a lot for a skinny white girl and I was full! You definitely will get your money's worth if you go by sheer food quantity alone.
But it was also topped off by a great guided tour of the area, Wicker Park, and the architecture of the surrounding buildings. Very interesting history to the area and the buildings are reflective of that. The walking was easy and our guide was informative and kept the tour moving along a good pace.
As far as the food: George's hot dog's-I dislike all the toppings on a Chicago style hot dog so I was thinking this place would be a miss for me. Was I wrong! It was absolutely delicious-the toppings created the perfect mix, none overpowering the others but lots of flavor.
Hot Chocolate: The iced chocolate was wonderful. Very rich and smooth. Would have sipped a lot more if it were offered. The homemade marshmallow was pretty good too.
The Goddess and Grocer: Pasta salad was good, not my personal favorite thing to eat. Ingredients were really fresh. I actually wanted to go back for the tons of tempting desserts that were in the display case.
Piece: Loved the thin crust. Very tasty and again, tasted very fresh. The beer tasted like beer to me-I wouldn't know a "good" beer from one out of the can so I can't judge that.
Really full by now and this is the major walking interlude.
Falafel place (drawing a blank on the name)-Never had tried one but I liked the actual falafel. They also had lots of other interesting and different foods on display.
Icream-Wish I had more! It was absolutely creamy, smooth, and full of flavor. After the tour, we jumped right back in line for more. Some of the best chocolate ice cream I'd had. Took awhile to make and it wasn't that crowded.
I was really full and would have liked to come back to the area to revisit some of the places and try some of the ones we saw while walking. All in all, a great time! |

I did the Bucktown/Wicker Park tour and enjoyed it so much. After the tour was over I wish I had booked the Old Town tour as well. The food was great, the information provided was interesting and the guide was awesome. The variety of food/drink tasted was excellent and there is no way anyone would ever go away hungry. Kent, our guide made the tour fun, his personality was perfect for this job. I have always enjoyed Chicago, but seeing, hearing and tasting Chicago through this tour made me fall in love with the city. |

The guide was enthusiastic and you could tell she appreciated food and the history of the neighbourhoods.
The restaurant/store selections I thought represented typical Chicago foods, such as hot dogs and pizza but also showcased modern and newer food trends and tastes.
The final stop at iCream was the icing on the cake. What a great way to end the tour.
The route spacing/timing of the route was the only issue. At the start we did four tasting very close together, then a longer gap followed by the final two.
I realize to visit those first 4 (which were all great) the route needs to be that way since they were located close to each other.

I enjoyed the Lincoln Park/Old Town tour better but also found great prizes in the chocolate shop, catering shop and the Icream place out of the 6 places we stopped in Bucktown.
It always amazes me how neighborhoods go through cycles and regenerate thelselves. Bucktown and Wicker were no exception to this. |

I live in a suburb of Chicago and spend quite a bit of time in the city. I did this tour with 5 of my cousins who were visiting from out of state (ages 11-27) and everyone loved it.
The tour guide was enthusiastic and knowedgable and the food was delicious. I would recommend this tour to anybody who wants to get to know Chicago better. |
