Our tour guide (Kent) was wonderful. He provided so much information - history, personal insights, architecture, etc. The choices for our "tastings" were great - we had a variety of foods - some reflecting Chicago cuisines, others were simply American versions of foods. The tour moved along at a pleasureable pace. I would highly recommend this tour and would take it again when we return to Chicago! |

I attended this tour with my two daughters (one of which lives in Chicago) and we all had a great time. Our guide was excellent and kept us well informed of the foods we were tasting, the establishments we were eating in, and the neighborhoods we were walking through. It was a well spent three hours. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting or even currently living in Chicago. |

This is the second Chicago Food Planet Tour we've taken. We'll be back.
We couldn't get over the wonderful food we ate on this tour. To start off with the quintessential Chicago hot dog was perfect. Everything was great, but what a hoot to end up at iCream with the unique flavor combination of That Guy from Florida ice cream.
One aspect we especially appreciate about the tour was the opportunity to see and learn about parts of Chicago we had never visited before. We're definitely keeping the maps to retrace our steps and stroll through some of the neighborhoods again.
I can't imagine anyone who wouldn't find something to like about this experience. |

If you have never done one of these tours, I highly recommend you start with the Near North tour. This tour was not as good as that one. The food on this tour was very filling, but the walking distance was not as far as the first tour. I felt stuffed and tired by the time we got to the architecture portion (which was supposed to be a break from eating). I do not feel that our tour guide was as knowledgeable about this neighborhood as our Near North tour guide was. She also rushed us out of each stop, which made it feel like an eating contest towards the end. She referenced the Near North tour many times, which made me want to be on that tour instead. This tour guide seemed to be reciting lines, while our other tour guide seemed more natural.
The variety of samples on the Near North tour was more intriguing than this tour. I actually wanted to use the coupons in the north neighborhoods. In fact, after the Bucktown/Wicker Park tour, we took a cab to Old Town and visited some of the stops on the Near North tour. I'm glad we did this tour so that we know what it is like. I will not do it again, but I would do the Near North tour every year.
As for the food: the Chicago-style hot dog was awesome! The ingredients on top seemed very fresh (especially the tomatoe). The cold chocolate drink & homemade marshmallow were great. The pasta salad was okay, but you could make a better one at home. The pizza and beer were fine, but nothing to get excited about. The falafel sandwich was wonderful! The ice cream was good, but the sample size was too small. She also spent too much time telling how it was made. You can see the same process on the Food Network on most nights of the week.
Overall, I was not impressed with this tour. It was okay and I'm glad they offer it. |

We had no idea what to expect as this was our first organized tour but were very pleased.
The food was great, the tour guide was fantastic, the group was very nice, the tour of local homes was a nice surprise, in all this was a great tour. We plan to take more tours like it in the future. |

Eating your way around Chicago with a knowledgable guide who brieves you about the city's history and anecdotes is a great way to explore the city. Overall, I think the guide was very enthusiastic and what we ate was interesting. However, I'm not sure we got a good value out of our money as we ate very little, compared to the price we paid. My most favorite tastings were at iCream and the pizza place, but it was a shame because at iCream we got not even half scoop of their ice-cream, and at the pizza place we got a veggie pizza and a small shot of beer. At $46 pax, I think we dearve a full scoop of ice cream and a more meaty pizza.
So if you don't mind to pay the price, this is a good tour. |

The walking food tour is a wonderful way to experience the different neighborhoods of Chicago while enjoying a variety of foods. The tour guide was very personable and full of interesting tidbits about the neighborhooods. At each stop their was a sizable portion of food and a good variety. The food choices gave you an opportunity to sample foods that you may not have had before. The tour is well thought out the timing between actual walking and stops at the restaurants is just right. The tour is pressented in such a way that you want to go back and experience the areas again. |
