Fantastic Near North Food and Cultural Walk

Even though my husband and I live in the Gold Coast area, we loved the tour and learned a lot about the food/deli speciality shops...especially in the Old Town area. Our grown children were with us. This tour is for adults or teens. We are looking forward to doing other food/cultural tours in both Chicago and other cities.

A great mixture of foods and history.

We found it to be an unique tour. We liked the diversity of foods and tastes. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the foods as well as the history and architecture of the neighborhoods. She was as enthusiastic as we were about the things we saw and did. It was a good mix and would recommend it and look forward to trying the other tours next time we are in town.

We met at the Ashkenaz Deli and knew right away we had a good group touring with us. Adriana was our guide and we could not have asked for anyone better. We loved the stops, but it felt like more than 1 l/2 miles. Maybe I'm just not in shape. The talk about the neighborhoods was very informative. The only comment (not complaint) we have is we think the Askenaz Deli should give a choice of either a potato knish or a sandwich. Unfortunately some of the people do not eat meat and were unable to try the sandwich. The guide told us that they used to offer the knish and people complained that there was no meat on the tour. I guess you can't please everyone, but maybe a choice (in advance) would be a better option. We had two people from Baltimore and two from California who were spending a weekend together and we all loved the tour. I, personally loved the Tea Shop and the Pizza was incredible. After the tour we returned to the Spice Shop and Tea Shop and did some shopping. Other people from our tour were also at these shops. I doubt if many people returned to the candy shop or catering shop. The only other comment I have is that it would have been nice to have been able to sit at one additional time other than the Spice Shop and then at the very end for Pizza. We all had tired feet, but would not have missed the tour.

Excellent way to start a Chicago vacation

My Mom and I had never been to Chicago and read about this tour so decided it would be a nice way to learn about Chicago and start our trip. The tour was fantastic! We learned a lot, had an excellent tour guide, a great group of fellow tourists and the food/beverages were excellent (I'll be ordering several things from the places we visited - not enough room in my luggage to get them at the time). If we had known how much fun this was going to be we would have booked both tours for the same vacation, but we plan to return to Chicago on a future vacation because we loved the city so much. We both highly recommend this tour and agree with others about doing it at the beginning of a trip to learn more about Chicago (advice we got from others who had provided feedback when we were looking for things to do in Chicago).

Scott & Scott from Toledo. We came to chacago just to do a food thing. so glad we found these 2 tours. we like to cook and found the near north so interesting with the tea, spice and the oil stores after we got done with the tour we acctually back tracked and went to all the stores all over again and bought so much we had to have it shipped back home. the guides were so friendly and helpful...... i hope they add more tours so we can come back to do it all over again

A really fantastic tour and great way to get to know a bit more about the city. From our very friendly and knowledgeable guide, great stores etc where we sampled everything from tea, pizza, spices...as well as getting some idea of the history and architecture of the city. Not one part of the tour could be faulted - would definitely do it again if I ever come back to Chicago.

This was a wonderful way to get to know more about three Chicago neighborhoods. Each stop on the tour was a local food merchant with great product and food. Our guide was fun, knowledgeable about both food and neighborhood lore. It rained be we still had a great time!

Enjoyable, informative, multi-faceted experience

My friend and I spent an enjoyable afternoon with a group of others who were similarly interested in food, culture and architecture off the beaten path. We stopped into 7 very different and unique stores along an interesting walking tour. Our guide, Shane, skillfully & humorously guided the group and informed us about the merchandise, history and architecture we encountered along the way. We received free samples (yum!) and coupons at each store. We enjoyed each others' company as we stepped away from the usual tourist bustle and venues. I wish I lived closer so I could enjoy the other tour offerings of Chicago Food Planet in the near future. This tour is a must-do event next time you visit the "windy" city that got a "do-over" on its urban planning.
