A wonderful way to learn more about north Chicago. Each place we visited was unique. The rueben sandwich to start out was delicious. I loved the oil & vinegar store. The toffee was so good. The plate was passed around 3 times. The Spice House was one of a kind. Our tour guide Jen was great. She was full of information & kept us moving. When we were finished we went back to make purchases. I would recommend it to anyone who loves food & history.

The stops where there was substantial information (e.g. tea, spices, oil) were the most interesting. walking pace was a little brisk. enthusiastic and knowledgeable presenter. Wish we could do the other tour too (not offered when we were available). Would definitely recommend to our foodie friends.

We had just arrived in Chicago for our first visit to the city and found the food tour a great way to get to know the area. Our tour guide, Jennifer was so friendly and very knowledgeable not only about the businesses we visited and their foods but full of lots of other interesting facts about the city. Lots of fun and delicious food. Would definitely recommend it to newcomers, but there were locals in our group who enjoyed it just as much.

The tour gave great insights about Chicago history and architecture. we visited three different neighborhoods and the guide gave us an insiders feel for the different neighborhood personalities and happenings. Highly recommend this tour and any other walking-food tour when visiting a city. We went on the Greenwich Village food tour in NYC last spring and my family enjoyed it so much we decided we would always do a walking-food tour when visiting a new city. This tour did not disappoint.

The tour was great and enjoyable. My only negative thought is the emphasis on tipping. I don't like to be reminded to tip.

I enjoyed every stop and learning about the foods at each stop. I will never use bottled salad dressing again after sampling the delicious oil and vinegar combinations. The architectural part of the tour was very interesting as well. Chicago is a beautiful city and I had never been to Old Town before. We took a local who has lived in the city for 30 years on the tour with us, and she loved it. Had no idea there were such tours going on in the city.

My wife and I were in Chicago and went on the tour 11/20/2009. It truly was the highlight of our trip. We looked forward to the food, but did not anticipate how much we would learn about the local neighborhoods and architecture. My favorite was the olive oil and balsamic vinegar tasting. I never thought tasting balsamic by itself could be so good. I went back for seconds and thirds. My wife's favorite was the fudge shop where we received buttered toffee samples. All-in-all a must see. If we are ever to go back to Chicago, we will be taking the other tour offered by Chicago Food Planet. If you are on the fence about this tour, get off of the fence and go. You will not regret it.

Nikki was our guide - she was GREAT! The Near North tour was so much fun! Great stops along the way - we learned SO much about the food/tea/spice/oils, etc and went back the next day to get some of the great stuff we sampled. Thanks for a wonderful tour. Next time we'll do Wicker Park.
