My husband and I have visited Chicago too many times to count. So, while there for a weekend wedding in June 2006, we looked for something new and interesting to do. We discovered this food tasting and cultural tour, and asked around about it. Local friends told us that it was the "hot tour" to go on, so we tried it. We were not disappointed! It was actually the highlight of our Chicago visit due to its uniqueness and its entertaining guide.
Who knew that you could walk from Water Tower to Lincoln Park and not feel tired at all? Walking at a nice, leisurely pace, the guide fills you in on all sorts of interesting tidbits about Chicago and various landmarks and historical buildings. Plenty of stops to chat and learn (and rest for anyone who gets tired) as you walk from shop to shop to enjoy a unique tasting and lesson on the food item. I was pleasantly surprised that even with my food allergies, the food locations chosen easily worked into my restrictions. From a middle eastern deli to a tea shop to a spice shop, to a candy shop, to a pizza place, to a chocolate lounge -- all were unique, interesting, and tasty; plus it was a ton of fun to learn about the foods from the store owners/employees who welcomed our tour and guide like a favorite friend.
My husband I highly recommend this tour. Your guide is terrific, and easily adapts to the needs of the group. Two thumbs up! |

My 21 year old daughter and I visited Chicago for the first time and went on this tour the first day of our visit. We had a great time and learned about Chicago from our guide who was very entertaining. Not as much food as expected - we hadn't had lunch and got pretty hungry. Went back to some of the locations that were closest to our hotel. |

Memorial Weekend 2006 - Good tour...be sure to wear excellent walking shoes, as I wore flip flops and my feet were a little sore at the end. Though the food was good and the guide (Shane) very knowledgable, it was more of a walking tour than food tasting. I would give it an excellent rating if they add one more establishment to the food tasting portion (and not tea, sweets or breads). We tasted a Jewish fried potato cake, ice tea, chocolate, bread, thin crust veggie pizza and more chocolate. Though because of the walking (a little over 3 miles in 90 heat for 3 hours), I was pretty much too tired to think about food. |

I would definitly recommend the tour to all my friends and anyone who visits Chicago. It's the good way to see some of the key neighbourhoods and to taste the local flavours. The tour guide was fantastic. |

Shane was a great tour guide. Learned alot of interesting facts about Chicago and got to see areas we wouldn't have otherwise. Our group had a native Chicagon(?), who said she had a great time and learned alot.
the tour would have been great with or without the food.....The food added a little something extra, but I am not sure it would have been terribly missed.
I will definately look for something like this in any city I visit in the future. It is a great way to see the sights, and learn something along the way. |

First visit to Chicago for my niece and I. We were thrilled to find a food tour of Chicago as we had enjoyed similiar tours in New York. It is suggested that one does the tour early in one's stay and this is a good idea because afterwards you will know which streets or areas you may want to return. We try to avoid national restaurant chains when travelling and this tour got us off Michigan Avenue and into some neighborhoods with unique shops and restaurants. The stops for tasting included a traditional deli for delicious potato pancakes, a specialty tea shop for refreshing iced tea, an awesome bakery, and the popular Spice Shop to try different cinnamons. This shop is very enjoyable and you can buy seasoning mixes attributed to various Chicago restaurants-a wonderful souvenir idea. (I think it would have been nice though if we got to take a home a little sample vial as any visitor is free to taste the numerous spices for sale.) We loved the pizza we tried and craved it afterwards. Stops at the famous Chicago Fudge Shop and Ethel's Chocolate Lounge certainly were a sweet treat. We felt full at the end of the tour and more importantly, we learned a lot about Chicago's history from our guide Shane who was informative, fun and gracious. Be sure to check out his hammock bag--you will want one--great for carrying all the stuff you'll buy along the way and for getting it all home. |

We really enjoyed this walking and tasting tour of Chicago. Our guide was great and had all sorts of interesting tidbits to share as we walked. The different places that he took us were very interesting and tasty. He was good about pointing out other places as we passed. There are two suggestions that I would have for future tours. One provide a map with public transportation marked so we could find our way back to the different spots. Two, I would have liked to see some type of cheese or green grocer store as one of the stops. For any one taking the tour, this is a walking tour and you will be walking almost the entire three hours but the pace was not difficult. |

Very unique tour, great for tourists or local residents. My wife and I are
locals and virtually everything we saw was new to us. The stops are great, the guide was very informative and we definitely learned about some great neighborhood secrets that we will make use of in the future. Very high recommendation!! |

This was the BEST PART of my Chicago vacation!!!
I took the tour when an unexpected rainy cold front hit Chicago in May. I almost didn't go on the tour --- what a mistake that would have been.
The tour guide was fun, knowledgeable and had obviously spent time perfecting and caring for the tour. The selection of food stops were top quality, unique, one of a kind, a great variety. The store owners were gracious and welcoming; there was no attempts to sell you their products, you felt welcome to simply experience.
The behind the scenes neighborhoods each had their own interesting stories and history - all of which the tour guide made fun and interesting. I would have found none of this on my own. The guide was so incredibly personable as if he enjoyed the tour as much as I did. After the tour I even retraced my steps to visit some of the places we experienced.
SUMMARY: This tour is not the normal "tourist" attraction, yes, you learn all about Chicago, history, fun facts... but you go behind the normal common "tourist routes" into quality areas and neighborhoods, tasteful and unique stores, the food is delicious and the tour guide is warm, interesting and takes pride in presenting the best. This was the most fun and personable tour I have ever taken , I hope to return again.
DON'T MISS THIS!

We all thoroughly enjoyed the tour. It was well thought out in terms of the food that we sampled. We really enjoyed the fact that we had a chance to walk through some beautiful areas of Chicago. In many ways it is both an architecture tour and a food tour.
The guide was very friendly and had a great knowledge of Chicago.
For anyone who enjoys fine food in a fine city this is yout tour !
