Probably not value for money

The beginning (Ashkenaz) and end (Biacini?) were the best food parts of our tour. Otherwise, it was difficult to see where $42/person went. Nicky was an excellent guide, but I doubt that you paid her $60/hour for 3 hours On the inedible side, we enjoyed seeing Chicago neighbourhoods that we otherwise would not have visited

Great intro to Chicago neighborhoods

This was our first trip to Chicago and this tour allowed us to see a part of town that we probably wouldn't have visited otherwise. Our guide was charming and well-informed and the stops were varied and interesting. We particularly enjoyed the presentation on spices by the Spice House owner and the oil and vinegar tastings at Old Town Oil. We will definitely go on another Food Planet tour next time we visit Chicago.

Every thing about the tour was great - tour guide, places visted, architecture. I have a new appreciation of oil and vinegar. I recommended the tour to a relative who lives locally, and she plans to make a reservation.

This was a great way to truly experience some of the local culture Chicago has to offer. Living in the area I learned new things and experienced places off the beaten path we normally travel. Highly recommend this to both visitors and locals.

Truly, this was one of the highlights of our trip to Chicago. We did the Near North Food Tasting & Cultural Walking Tour. We also wanted to do the other tour that Food Planet offers but we just couldn't fit it into our schedule. Our loss! But, there's always next time. Our guide's name has slipped my mind but she was an adorable girl who's lived all over the US and in the southern hemisphere. She was engaging and very knowledgeable and this made the tour a truly memorable experience. We started out tasting an AMAZING Reuben at Ashkenaz Deli...I have never had much interest in a Reuben and thus had never tasted one. Oh. Wow. I was in deli heaven then and there. Next stop was a tea shop where we got an intense tea education and also learned about a new steeped product that contains no caffeine and I kid you not, tastes like dulce de leche in tea form. YUM! I went back after the tour and purchased some and am currently hoarding it in my pantry. One of my favorite stops on the tour was the Spice House. This was another spot that we walked back to after the tour. We purchased several proprietary blends as well as some amazing truffle salt that perfumed my luggage in a lovely way, and some holy-crap-what-else-can-I-put-this-in Vietnamese cinnamon that makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Our last stop was at Bacino's pizza for a stuffed pizza, a Chicago specialty. We all sat down and enjoyed the most gloriously decadent stuffed spinach pie that I've tasted yet. Seriously, it was so good that we ordered one for the road and it was dinner back in our hotel room. I don't kid about food, that's dead serious stuff. I would highly, highly recommend this tour for anyone in Chicago, including the locals.

We are so glad that we took this tour. It was the highlight of our trip! Our guide was energetic, knowledgeable and personable. She conveyed much interesting and fun information about our culinary destinations and the various cultural points of interest along the way. Definitely a great way to learn about Chicago. It was like watching a show from the Food Network! We are recommending this tour to all of our family and friends.

Jessie was a great guide. I wish we had taken the tour the very first day in Chicago. We got to see the 'locals' way of life and where they eat. It was away from all the touristy falderal. Very informative in regards to teas, oils, and spices, as well!
