Great Time

The tour provided much more than expected. We thought it was a tasting, but it also included architectural highlights of the areas. I lived in the area covered for several years and never went to some of the places on the tour. The three hours flew by.

Great but not quite what we expected

Great tour guide and tour. Enjoyed the history and culture of the city as much as the food. Only disappointment was that it was promoted as more local ethnic eateries but 3 of the stops were for chocolate and others were specialty shops that were not based on any old neighborhood history. Still all was good. Many amazing food and tastes that we will long remember.

Well worth the time and cost

As a food industry professional, I found the tour interesting. The tour should be called the Food and Architecture Tour. The guide was extremely well versed in both specialty foods and the history of Chicago's buildings. I strongly urge anyone who has interest in these areas to take the tour.

Our tour guide was warm, friendly, and knowledgeable of the Old Town area. I liked that our tour provided a variety of samplings. I have already recommended this to my friends.

Tour was okay - lot of walking (thank goodness it was not a hot day), Jewish deli potato pancake good (may be pastrami sampler - 1/4 of sandwich - would be better and those who do not want pastrami or corned beef can have the potato pancake) cheese and crackers good (not much time to shop), stuffed pizza delicious, oil & vinegar tasting ok, spice store interesting again, not much time to shop. Chocolate candy stores (2) nice but to be honest, thought I would be sampling food (naturally, in small amounts). Tour guide was very nice, spoke well, and knew the history of the neighborhoods. Thank you.

Great but more time needed!

The tour was great. There was a really fun combination of tasting stops and unique places. I wish, however, that the tour permitted more time at each stop to shop and buy souvenirs and treats. It felt a little rushed, and I was disappointed that I couldn’t take more advantage of the stops and buy stuff. Overall it was a fabulous experience. Our tour guide was great. Nicki was fun, nice and knowledgeable.

Good opportunity to see Chicago neighborhoods

We enjoyed seeing different neighborhoods and the foods from Chicago. Tour guide did a good job of not only educating us on food for Chicago and give us a good understanding of key Chicago neighborhoods. Less chocolate and maybe add something else. Have been on numerous NYC food tours and food tours are the best means to really understand the city.

Long walk and good food!

This is a great tour to get you "outside" of the tourist traps in Downtown Chicago. You get to explore the great homes and residential areas while touring and sampling local "non-chain" establishments. As long as the weather is nice it can make for a great walk, around 2 miles. The tour includes a jewish deli, tea, oil, pizza, chocolate, and spices and herbs. The food samplings are heaviest (pizza) at the end of the tour. The tour lasted around 3hrs 15 minutes. I would recommend eating breakfast prior to the tour. They are arranging a new tour that focus on a another area of Chicago, be sure to check that out as well.

A terriffic afternoon in Chicago!

We've done the uptown, downtown, museums, etc. This tour gives a whole new perspective on the LOCAL scene. Neighborhood history comes alive as we walked among the shops and homes with our guide providing insights. Stopping at small food stores made for a culinary experience as well. Since the tour ends at a different point than it begins, we doulbed our pleasure by walking back on a different route. We are recommending this tour, and the new Bucktown venture, to our friends and family.

The highlight of an amazing weekend

I'll admit it. I was skeptical. 4 friends were coming in from out of town and they were the ones who had found this tour online. I grew up in Chicago (ok, in the burbs, but still...) I thought I knew enough about the city, it's neighborhoods and its food. I was wrong. This was a unique and fun way to see Old Town and Lincoln Park, and experience small "foodie" joints that I didn't know existed. Kent, our guide, was knowledable, funny and down-to-earth. He also kept up a good, but not difficult, pace without being overbearing or pushy. I've been telling everyone about this tour ever since (4 days ago). I highly, highly recommend it, and look forward to trying out the new neighborhood tours that are coming soon! Thanks!

What a fun way to see the authentic Chicago

This was my me and my boyfriends first trip to Chicago and what a treat doing this tour was! We were so glad we got to visit such neat neighborhoods and see how the locals live. This was definitely a highlight of our trip. Our guide Emily was awesome. She had such passion for the city and shared with us many interesting tidbits about Chicago that I never knew. It was great to get out of the tourist trap that is Mag Mile and downtown! I hope there are more tours in the future that take place in other neighborhoods of Chicago!

More of a walking tour than a food tour.

Stops were great. More food stops would be better.

Eat a hearty breakfast before the tour.

Perhaps it was our confusion that we expected a tour similar to wine tasting in which we experience small portions of food that reflect the region or city. Instead, we were teased with measly tastings of tea, olive oil, spices and the like. The only hearty portions were the potato pancakes to start the walking tour and the pizza than ended it. Our tour guide seemed as disinterested as we were; Perhaps it was his detached neutral self deprecating failed attempt at humor that set the tone, but we were often bored and disengaged. That coupled with sparse samplings left us feeling cheated. But then again, we felt that way only because we expected so much. Still, the tour had its charms in presenting local architecture and history and the small tiny portions of tea, olive oil, spices, chocolate and the like. If that is what you want, go for it. Otherwise, I say, grab a guide book with a "best of" section and go walk around yourself. You'll save $40 and probably will have had a better time.
