Chicago Food & Cultural Tour

| My wife and I very much enjoyed this tour. Two things stand out: first, a brief review of the architectual and cultural aspects of Near North Side of Chicago was quite interesting and not something you get on the big tour buses. Our guide, Jennifer, was quite knowledgeable about the area (s). I especially enjoyed the walk through the Gold Coast area and seeing some of the homes there - Florsheim and Playboy Mansion stand out. Jennifer knew the prices of the condos that are being converted from the old mansions. Second, the foods and accompanients on Wells St. in Old Town was also interesting. I think this part of the tour is mostly for the ladies, but I particularly enjoyed testing the oils and vinegars at Old Town Oil. I wanted to take some home, but cannot due to restrictions of liquids on air flights. We both enjoyed the deep dish pizza in Lincoln Park. One thing I would have enjoyed on the food tour would be a "Chicago hot dog". I have heard of these but not sure how they are different from other hot dogs. That about sums it up. Say Hi to Jennifer! | The guide was fantastic, energetic and very friendly. The food was great, not too much because walking with a full stomach is very unpleasant, but not too little. It really worths the price. We enjoyed a lot, specially the spices, oil&vinegars, teas and chocolate shops. We would definitely repeat it!! and we came back to our country with tons of goodies! | ||||||

| This was a great tour. It started out with a sandwich at a great Jewish deli, then went to a great tea shop where we got an education about tea and left wondering why coffee is so predominant in the U.S. when tea is the #1 beverage everywhere else in the world. Then it was off to the Spice House which will be getting internet business from me. I've never seen a better selection of organic, fresh spices. Then next door to Old Town Oil, which was my favorite stop. We did an olive oil and balsamic vinegar tasting...don't knock it! We left with a bottle of the best olive oil I've ever tasted and will be ordering the 18 year aged balsamic! Then it was off to the Fudge Pot--yeah, chocolate! Then to a catering and chocolate place, then ending up at Bacino's Pizza for authentic Chicago stuffed crust pan pizza. It was a wonderful and surprisingly educational tour. Highly recommended. | ||||||

Great Experience for Chicago Visitor

| This was a very worthwhile experience. The amount of walking was reasonable, unexpected information about the city and the neighborhoods was well received, and the guide was very enthusiatic and capable. My one criticism, and not a major one, is that the promotion of the sights visited needs to be toned down. The tour itself promotes the locations visited, and talking about coming back to patronize the merchants is unnecessary and distracting. | ||||||

| Loved our guide, Jennifer, who was both informative and entertaining. I had always heard about what a great food town that Chicago was, but would not have really known if we had not taken this tour! The variety of shops and restaurants was excellent and the tour of local neighborhoods on foot gave us a unique perspective. Looking forward to our next visit and another area. | ||||||

| This was recommended by trip advisor and as always was a home run. The tour guide was very informative and engaging. You won't gain weight on this tour because there is a lot of walking. You will not get full on the tour, the food is more like tastings. And a lot of the tour was to a spice shop and an oil shop with no food at all. But there were great products and very unique items I had never seen before. So there are plenty of shopping opportunities. The tour is a great way to visit a side of Chicago many visitors rarely get to see(Gold Coast). I highly recommend it for visitors and locals alike. Also, the folks on the tour were great. We had some funny folks that kept me laughing. Don't miss on seeing the 25 million dollar house near Oz park. The house is so big it looks like a school. By the way there is a Mexican restaurant that is not a part of the tour, but the food looks great, they make the guacamole' fresh at your table. Plan on eating there! | ||||||

| First, we couldn't have gotten a better guide, Shane. He was very informative and had the right sense for humor. He is a keeper. Second, the tour was fantastic. My wife and I learned thing about tea, spices and oils that we never knew. My wife was thrilled with the garlic olive oil, will be ordering via the web. The other aspect of the tour was totally unexpected. The neighorhoods we walked through were absolutely wonderful. The architecture was interesting and the neighorhoods looked like the kind of place that we would like to live in. Between the food and homes you get to see a side of Chicago that is impossible to experience by any other means. | ||||||

| As busy professionals, my fiance' and I often don't get out that much to enjoy the rich diversity of Chicago. This food tour, suggested and booked by friends visiting from outside Chicago, was really a wonderful opportunity to learn about one such diverse neighborhood. The tour guide was very knowledgeable, seemed quite concerned and interested in those whom he was guiding, and provided a nice pace for the day. All the featured restaurants were eye-opening, unique, and quite memorable; I would certainly revisit them all. I especially liked the attached list of "highlighted restaurants," not covered by the actual tour, but recommended in the future. This historical sites were all very interesting. All in all, a great experience that I would recommend to any of my friends and family. | ||||||

| Tour was OK, but nothing that different or interesting about the food. Better, more exciting examples of "Chicago Food" can easily be found by anyone with1/2 a brain. And, the area is not all that interesting to walk, as opposed to other parts of the city. Our guide was a great guy, trying hard to be enthusiastic... but there's not a lot one can do with what he was working with. Our group seemed to be made up almost entirely of people who have traveled extensively and are "foodies". So the most exciting thing we experienced was ice cream made instantly. Maybe the North Side food tour is better. We were not tempted to find out! | ||||||

| We wanted to try something different than the usual Gray Line Tours. Wow, we had a great time doing the Old Town tour with CFPFT. Our guide, Caroline ,give us good insights of the various neigborhoords we visited, the architecture, had great stories about Hugh Efner's mansion and simply made us at ease to visit the various shops part of the tour. We really enjoyed the tea shop, Old town oil, the spice house and the fudge shop (almost "all you can eat"!). Catering Chocolat has little interest and I'm glad we did not end up in the basement of the pizza joint like the group before us - that would have been a disappointment! Plan enough time in your agenda, the tour is at least 3 hours and may go beyond shedule - and you'll need a bit of time to rest afterwords! A great experience overall! | ||||||

| Always like food tours. This one was both a food tour and and historic/architectual tour of the communtiy. There is plenty of food on this tour, You get a hot dog, frozen hot chocolate, anitpasto, falafel, slice of pizza, ice crean, and a taste of beer. we were full after the tour, You will receive coupons from the shops you visit ot use on a future visit. We came back the next day and did that. Overall very nice tour | ||||||

| My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Ben, our guide was upbeat, enthusiastic and extremely well informed. The food tasting was terrific and the sights were wonderful. The atmosphere was fun and laid back. We have decided to seek out similar tours in every city we visit from now on. | ||||||
