A Great Way to Know the City

Although I grew up in the Chicago area (90 min South), I'd never thought of taking a "tour" in my own city, per se. I did, and loved it! You get an insiders perspective on the history and culture of Chicago. I've taken this and the Old Town tour and really enjoyed the tour guides on both with their knowledge not only of culture, but of the food, store, and owners. A must do whether a visitor or local to the city!

Wicker Park Food Tour

My wife and I enjoyed the food tour tremendously. The food was great and varied, but the best part was the information provided by Ben who was enthusiastic, personable and knowledgable. While we have been to Chicago before, we have never taken part in an activity that provided the information in this way. We can't wait to come back to take the other tour!

Food choices were just okay. Walking tour was fun, looking at the different types of archictecture was interesting. Our guide was very good and fun. Would have enjoyed more and different sights.

Excellent introduction to the city of Chicago

We enjoyed our walking tour and information provided by our tour guide. All of the businesses we visited were friendly and appreciated our interest. We returned to the area twice to shop at the food tour stops and had dinner at a local restaurant recommended by the tour. We would recommend this tour to anyone who is interested in learning about the neighborhoods of Chicago.

The tour was definitely a wonderful experience, I love food and I love to learn about the history of cities and this tour combined both. Our tour guide Chris was very knowledgable and fun. The places chosen to try we're great and the food was wonderful.

What an amazingly fun way to spend an afternoon!

I'm new to Chicago, and had a friend in town. I had been wanting to explore Bucktown/Wicker Park for awhile, but hadn't quite gotten around to it yet. The food tour served as a great way to get introduced to a neighborhood. You know when you go to a great area packed with restaurants, you don't quite know where to begin, and Yelp isn't always as reliable as you'd like? This is the perfect way to get acquainted with an area, and dip your toes in to the well of great food and great neighborhoods of Chicago. First off, Sophie, our tour guide, was really great. She was a lot of fun, gracefully managed the music festival that impeded our hearing and taxed her voice, and was very knowledgeable about the restaurants, culture, and overall "scene." Second, when they say "tasting" they really mean a good portion everywhere you go. It's a good thing its over 3 hours, cause you need the walking to work up an appetite for the next stop. Plus, I loved that you're learning more than just the restaurants; you also learn about the history of the neighborhoods, the architecture of the homes, and get to understand the vibe of the place.

A fantastic way to see, and taste, a city.

This was easily the highlight of our trip when we visited Chicago from Canada. It's totally different from your typical walking/bus/boat tour, and gives you a whole new experience. I will definitely go one of the other offered tours when we return to Chicago, and will make a point of going on other Food Planet Tours. Thank you for this unique experience!

Even if you think that you won't like it, try it! The felafel sandwich was the star stop. I would change the pizza stop to a different type of pizza, and offer a larger portion of the deli salad (the salad was underwhelming) and ice cream.

Though it rained through the majority of our tour, we enjoyed it immensely. We met some great people on the tour from all over the place, our guide was friendly and knowledgeable. We returned to 3 of the places on the tour afterward to shop - and received some great discounts because we were part of the tour. The end of this tour is within several blocks of Lincoln Park, so my husband and I checked out the zoo once the tour was finished... and then walked back. Recommend!!

more food, less real estate
Fri, Nov 14, 08   11:30 AM NDeBruyn Female 50-59 Combination Family With Children
I am probably in a minority in finding comments on local real estate values and details about houses and buildings owned by wealthy people, to be inappropriate for a tasting tour. I would prefer more food stops or talk, less housing talk. I did appreciate that talk in stores focuse on facts about food - origin, myth busting, etc. It was a nice walk, despite a kind of dreary day.

The Food Tasting and Cultural Tour was awesome! Our tour guide was fantastic! We truly enjoyed ourselves! I am trying to get a larger group of friends to take the tasting tour again! If you have the opportunity to go on this tour, take advantage of it! Great food, unique information, cultural history, and great exercise!!

The walking food tour was a great way to see the city. I particularly liked Old Town Oil which had specialty Oils and vinegars, free tasting size samples.

Great way to spend an afternoon!

The tour was a great way to spend a sunny and brisk Mother's Day afternoon walking through neighborhoods that normally wouldn't be on my radar. The tour guide was energetic, knowledgable, and approachable. Whether you are a local or an out of towner, this trip is worth! My only criticism would be that the pizza place which is the last stop on the tour was a bit far out of the way and left us in an area of less hustle and bustle. We were more exhausted than we thought we would be but it was great!

Fun walk even in a rainy day

Nikki was a fantastic tour guide, pointing out all the interesting architecture on the walk, answering questions, and giving insight into the Chicago food scene. We never felt rushed, even though I'm sure we were on a schedule. She maintained her enthusiasm, even as the rain continued to pick up and everyone got soaked. We had a great time and would consider one of these tours again when we are in Chicago.
