Not for me

Unfortunately I though this tour was pretty average. I am not a big eater yet there was definitely not enough food on this tour for the price you pay. I took a similar tour that provided more than double the amount of food. The tour guide was average and not genuine although she tried. The highlights of the tour were the chocolate, it was delicious. The oils were nice (and excellent quality) but no bread was provided which is just strange. Who tries oil straight up? Same with the spices, putting cinnamon on my hand, no matter how good the quality is and then licking it is not for me sorry. I am a foodie and maybe if I wasn't then I would have enjoyed this tour more. The pizza at the end was nice but tasted more like a quiche. The definite highlight of the tour was the architecture. Seeing different neighbourhoods that a normal visitor probably would not see was fantastic. I don’t know why some tours get so obvious when they hit you up for the tip at the end of the tour. There is nothing wrong with mentioning at the end that tips are appreciated but when you get a “let me personally say good bye to each and every one of you” even after she has already individually spoken to each us at the end is just obvious and not appreciated.

I really liked the tour, very informative. The tour guide Adriana (sp) was fantastic!! We did stop at this chocolate and catering ..Jay was the owner..he seemed to be annoyed that we were there. I know that he is busy but just to say Hi was too much for him. If he does not want people there then take him off the tour. The pizza place was kind of far off the path but excellent pizza. I would tell anyone to go on this tour, in fact we would come down again and try the other tour available.

This is a fabulous way to see parts of Chicago that you would never otherwise probably get to see. The tour takes you into the neighborhoods and gives you such a rich history and up close and personal look into the heart of the city. Our guide, Nikki, was so personable and knowledgeable! She definitely made the 3-hour tour seem much shorter. I was ready to keep going! There was a good variety of food. .. reubens, speciality teas, EVOOs, spices, CHOCOLATE and, of course, Chicago-style pizza at its best. I highly recommend this--whether you are a Chicago or Illinois native or a visitor. I would suggest that if you haven't eaten much since breakfast, that you eat a light snack if you take a later tour (past noon). Well worth the money!

My husband and I enjoyed the tour so much! All the food was awesome and we learned some interesting facts about Chicago. I loved that the tour let us experience Chicago in an "off the beaten path" way. We got to see and experience things that only a Chicago resident would be able to show us. It wasn't touristy at all and we loved it! We can't wait to come back again and do the other tour. Hopefully even more will be added in the future.

The Food Planet Tour was great!

The tour was really nice. We took the Old Town/Lincoln Park tour. It took you off the main streets of Chicago and showed you some of the neighborhoods. We really enjoyed Old Town and all the specialty shops. Jen was a great tour guide. The chocolate was great at the Fudge Pot and the tea was good at the TeaGschwendner. They could have paired up some food with the olive oil and spice shops. We did enjoy the sit down lesson about the spice and cinnamon. It was very educational.

The Chicago Food Tour was so much fun. We got to see places that we would have never known about and to try wonderful things at each destination. Our guide was very knowledgable about each of the places that we visited as well as the city as a whole. We hope to be able to do one other tours in teh future.

Exploring Chicago's Many Neighborhood Treasures
Fri, Aug 21  12:00 PM iceblue71 Female 30-39 Local Family With Children
I am a life long Chicago resident and attended this tour with my boyfriend and two teenage children. The tour provided a variety of interesting topics: culinary, historic & architectural. Because of the variety the tour was never tiresome and kept everyone’s full attention. Of course the highlight of the tour was all the amazing treats we were able to indulge in. I must admit I was nervous that there would only be small samples served, but to my surprise that was not the case. Instead, most establishments served generous portions, so much so that we went home with leftovers because we were so full. The variety of cuisine covered many of Chicago’s many culinary delights from pizza to ice cream to a traditional Middle Eastern sandwich. We were able to experience recipes from a family that migrated to Chicago from Jordan as well as an award winning pastry chef who attended a local culinary school. Learning about the interesting stories of the owners of these popular establishments was a great contribution to the tour. In between the tastings we had a chance to explore both Wicker Park & Buck Town. While out stretching our legs we were able to learn about the history behind these popular Chicago neighborhoods & about some of the local architecture. The information provided was interesting and gave us a glimpse into how quickly a less desirable area can turn into the hippest place around. All the information provided was an interesting look into the history that made Chicago one of the best cities in the world. Last, but not least, was our tour guide Ben. He was a local Chicagoan who was extremely upbeat and knowledgeable. He provided us with his own local outlook on Chicago as well as answered all of our questions. He was extremely accommodating and positive. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone, local or visitor. For visitors it provides a glimpse of a local Chicago neighborhood that may be overlooked within typical tourist attractions. It’s a laid back & relaxing tour that brings you deep into what Chicago is truly about, diversity blending together. For locals this tour offers a look into why Chicago is such an amazing city to live. I visited places that I wouldn’t normal go to, but will be certain to visit again now that I’ve experienced them first hand. My two children loved the tour so much they both suggested that we move to the area toured, and since that is not currently an option we will be traveling back to these areas again very soon via public trans. From all the great food to the hip little shops to the bustling intersections to the quiet tree lined this tour covered it all.

A Must-Do in Chicago!

The Near North Culinary Walking Tour is fantastic! I enjoyed it far more than the recommended Architectural Boat Tour. What a wonderful way to see the city, and learn interesting facts, as well as trying local cuisine. The stuffed pizza at the end is well worth the walk around. Jennifer was the best tour guide I have ever had the pleasure of having. She is extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic.

AWESOME!!!

This tour was Wonderful!! The food was amazing as were the shops that we visited. We went back to almost all of them to purchase the things we loved. I have been to Chicago a few times to go shopping and never left the Miracle Mile area. However a lot of the stores and resturants on Michagan Ave. are chains and we like to go to Mom and Pop stores and resturants to have a glimpse of how the locals live. Learning about the different neighborhoods throughtout Chicago was just what we needed. We had an amazing tour guide named Jen, she knew so much about the city, and all that it has to offer outside of the the normal tourist attractions. We are already planning our next visit to Chicago and we will take the other food tour they offer. Jen thank you for all the great info on the city. I hope you are our guide on the next one. I will recommend this tour to everyone.

Top Notch Chicago Experience

Kent (tour guide for Bucktown/Wicker Park) was very interesting and knowledgeable. We asked him a ton of questions about shopping, eating, etc. and enjoyed his recommendations. The tour completely filled us up and then some, so I would definetly recommend to not eat breakfast before the tour. The walking part was super easy and the architecture was fascinating. Overall, one of the best highlights to our one week vacation in Chicago.

Spectacular Day!

We truly enjoyed our food & walking tour of Chicago with Chicago Food Planet. My husband & I enjoyed the tour even more our second time around! This time we brought our niece (12 years old) & our sister. All of us loved the history of Chicago & LOVED the food! Our tour guide, NICKI TADER was fantastic!! She was just awesome & made the tour so much fun! My favorite parts were the Chicago spinach stuffed pizza & the Spice House. We even went back to purchase a few spices. It rained that morning & looked a little gloomy, however Nicki said "it never rains on my tours" & we had the most spectacular day with sunshine! What a great way to spend an afternoon with your loved ones eating delicious food in our great city of Chicago!!! :)

Excellent Tour - You don't want to miss it

Hi, My husband and I visited Chicago to celebrate our birthdays. I read the reviews on these tours and decided to book it after much consideration...after all...how good could a walking/eating tour really be? I have to say, it was really a great day and I would do it again next time I visit. We had Jessie/Curly as our tour guide and she is full of life, information and passion! Great level of detail, never a dull moment and lots of interesting sites and tastes...and it even rained heavily part way through our tour! It didn't matter cause we all had fun and made the best of it! You really should take one of their tours if you have not already. Fun day!

We had a fantastic time!

Jessie, our tour guide, was enthusiastic and fun. She filled the tour with facts we never could have found on our own. We ended up in establishments we never would have visited, but are so glad we experienced! Our favorite stop was the oil store, where we got to taste different high-quality oils and vinegars. The tea shop was awesome, and the pizza at the last tasting was to die for! We ended up doing the tour on our own in reverse after the official tour ended, just to visit the stores again and make purchases. Fabulous, fabulous tour-- we really felt it was worth the money, and it exceeded our expectations.
