What a wonderful surprise the Bucktown/Wicker Park Food and walking tour turned out to be. I saw a segment on a food tour of Chicago on the news and thought it sounded like fun. I couldn't remember what channel I saw the segment on, what the name of the company was, or anything else, so I started Googling "Chicago food tour" and couldn't believe all of the options there are...tours for everything imaginable! It didn't take long to figure out that Chicago Food Planet was the highest rated and the company that I wanted to go with.
Our tour guide Kent was knowledgeable, personable and seemed to have a vested interest in Wicker Park and Buck Town. In fact, I would say he's the epitome of Wicker Park, which is a compliment, and what more could you ask for in a guide?
The combination of eating, walking, talking, eating, walking, exploring through the great neighborhoods and even better samples of food was perfect. I was full midway through the trip but they have it routed as such that you nibble and then exercise a little of it off. I would have to say that the one item I didn't think they gave a big enough sample of was the ice cream...definitely wanted more of that! All in all, it was a great day. I'd highly recommend the tour to everyone and can't wait to go on the other two! Thanks Kent for showing us around! |

Very fun tour that took me to places I had never been before (except for Lou Malnatis). The tour guide was excellent, fun, and knowledgeable. |

Understanding of Chinese Culture

Our tour guide seemed very knowledgeable about Chinese culture and customs. She had answers for all sorts of questions thrown at her, which I found quite impressive. She also had a true understanding of the food, how it was prepared, spices used, etc. I found this extremely helpful, considering that I never quite cared for Chinese food...however, her "intros" helped me to determine what I probably could handle and what I probably could do without. |

Angie was our guide and absolutely fabulous! She was enthusiastic, friendly, and quite knowledgeable. Each stopping point was interesting, and we stopped to shop at most after the tour. The discount certificates were quite nice. There were 18 in our group and we had a short chat with most of the others, who were spirited and friendly. We had an excellent experience. This was our second food tasting cultural tour of Chicago and plan on attending the third. |

Had a great time on our tour. Learned a lot of interesting information about the area enjoyed all of the tasting stops as well. The portions were larger than what I was expecting. Colleen was an excellent tour guide and I would definitely consider taking another tour with Chicago Food Planet. |

This is a fantastic tour to take with friends or family. Our guide, Alia, was very knowledgeable and the food was terrific. We loved that we got a list of restaurants in the area and a map too. We all will be going back soon. I would suggest this tour for out of town guests as well. |

For those like us, who don't know the city, this was the perfect way to get off the main drag of Michigan Avenue and get into the neighborhoods. The leader was cheerful, knowledgeable about the eateries, the local history and architecture, and it was fun to meet a small group of people who were having as good a time as we were. Food was outstanding! We did this in New York City as well. Comparable, which is why we came back to this company.. Well done! We were with our two grown daughters. Wouldn't recommend for little kids. |

Thanks to tripadvisor we learned about this tour. It was my 4th trip to Chicago, and I wanted to experience something most tourists don't. Kent was our guide, the group was maximum size (15) and it was Saturday. We started with a hot dog Chicago style, delicious, then hot chocolate, which we had to savour on the street because it is a famous place for Chicagoans to have lunch, then a veggie salad, a slice of pizza, a falafel sandwich and instant frozen ice cream as finish. I probably will give detailed descriptions of the places we visited. In between dishes, Kent told us about the Wicker Park and Bucktown history, and gave more detailed information about certain houses that were built in the late 19th century. Overall, the tour takes around 3 hours. Consider taking a bottle of water with you, although water is served in several restaurants. It is a food tasting tour, but the total amount of calories suffices to fill your stomach for hours. Our hotel is in the theatre district, but I am sure we will take the train to Damen for a meal in one of these places! |

We enjoyed hearing the stories and history along the walk. Our guide pointed out specific bldgs and significant details along our course. We sampled businesses along the way that we never would never would have discovered if left to our own. Having said that, I would have like to have had more of the cuisine stops - the tea, oil, and spice shops were interesting, but didn't necessarily add much to the tour itself.
Overall, we were glad that we went and plan to try the other food tasting walking tours. They are a fun and unique way to explore Chicago. |

It was our first time in Chicago so to get to know the area better and to try as much food as we like, we decided to join a food tour. We read reviews and decided to go with Bucktown/ Wicker park. It turned out to be a very fun experience. Our tourguide, Sophie, is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. You can tell she loves what she does. The places she took us to were delicious and has a bit of Chicago history. We walked around the area and Sophie pointed out old houses and explained their architecture. It was a good way to see a different side of Chicago, and to burn off the calories too. Because we enjoyed the place so much, my friend and I stayed for a few more hours to visit the shops and came back at night to try out the restaurants that she recommended. |
