When we found this tour on the internet we did not know exactly what we were getting into but WE LOVED IT!! The tour guide was very knowledgeable, pleasant and kept things moving. The different locations visited were outstanding and the food was marvelous. Getting to go into the different neighborhoods and hearing the stories about events that happened in them was very interesting. I would highly recommend this great tour to anyone who wants to get a real view of Chicago city life.

AWESOME TOUR! A CHICAGO MUST DO!!!!

We took the tour our first day in Chicago, which is when I recommed taking it. We had four in our group ranging in ages from 33 to 66. The walk was pleasant for all of us. I loved the Tea shop, because I drink tea everyday. Who knew there was so much to learn about tea? The cooks in our group loved the Spice Merchants. Of course, who wouldn't love Truffled Sea Salt? We all enjoyed the Old Town Oil. They mixed different oils and basalmic vinegars together for you to taste. The variety was amazing. The spinach stuffed pizza was really great. The best we had in Chicago. There were also several chocolate stops, but our favorites are listed above. We went back to the shops after the tour and made our purchases. They offer shipping at great prices. A great opportunity to buy as much as you want and not have to worry about carrying it home. It was also very interesting to learn about all of the different architecture and the home prices in each neighborhood. We LOVED the tour, and I just can't say enough good things about it! It was our favorite thing we did while in Chicago!

I recommend this tour to anyone. Our tour guide was great. I loved seeing shops and restaurants that I would not have otherwise visited without this tour. My husband and I went back to some of the shops a couple of days after the tour because we liked them so much.

This was a great tour of local Chicago neighbourhoods. It was great to get out of the downtown area to see the local haunts. Our guide was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The food tasting stops were overall very good. The spice house stop was not great. I would have rather tasted the spices and flavours with a mix/dip/veggies or something like that, within a food sample. Also, the cheese stop at the deli could have been more interesting with more variety and information. It was a little boring and lacked real interest and information as far as the stops went. But the pizza, fudge pot and tea stops made up for the spice house. The tea house was the best model for information. Overall, every stop (except the tea) could have presented more information on the foods and the processes for making the foods. The distance was reasonable to walk, even in the heat. I also liked that it was a small group of 16, which made everything much easier. Overall, we were satisfied and full after our visits, with a variety of foods.

AMAZING! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I was visiting my brother and cousin in Chicago for the first time, and we thought to do the Chicago Food Tours to kill some time on a Sunday afternoon. I was there for the weekend and the food tours was by far the most exciting and best event for the weekend. Not only was it a food tour, but we also got a historical tour of the city and did a little walking through Gold Coast, Old Town, and Lincoln Park. The tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable and I would highly recommend it for visitors as well as natives of the city. It is a MUST DO EVENT! Very cheap and affordable too.

all kinds of food

The tour included some interesting food places is Chicago that I probably would not have known about. Other places were very well known. The comments from the narrator about the neighborhoods we were walking though were very interesting and the the guide was very enthusiastic. I was disappointed only because the tour was described as a tour of different ethnic neighborhoods and their representative foods, and it was not. Why did we bother walking to a deli that served us a chunk of cheese the size of my thumbnail? Anyway, the tour should be about either historical food establishments in Chicago, or ethnic foods in chicago.

My wife and I wanted to experience Chicago in a way that you don't normally do. We had been to Chicago before and stayed mainly on the Magnificent Mile and Navy Pier, this time we wanted something different. The tour was very enjoyable with the facts about different Archtectures, eating establishment and the information we found out about different teas, chocolates, spieces, oils and vinegars. This was just want we had asked for and our tour guide (Shane) was very good. The three hour tour did not seem like it took that long. We will recommend this to our friends.

Good Experience.

I liked trying all the different kinds of foods and products. I think we should have spent LESS time though talking and discussing the housing and prices. I think the 3 hour stretch could have been lessened into about 2 hours if we walked at a steady pace and did not stop for stragglers. I thought it was a great experience for the whole grroup though. Ethel's chocolate lounge was my favorite.

I was extremely pleased with this tour and would reccommend that anyone visiting Chicago participate! It was a nice way to see the city in a different light. Walking through the streets that we otherwise would not have seen, gave us the opportunity to look closer at the architecture and beauty of the city. My boyfriend and I went to Chicago to celebrate our 5 year anniversary. It was so much fun. This tour was definitely the highlight of our trip! It is especially nice if you have a love of food or an interest in cooking. But it really is for anyone! I hope that this tour keeps going and eventually expands! It would be nice to go back and do Part 2! LOL Enjoy Chicago and dont miss the food tour! (One thing: thought it was a little overpriced, but so is every other tour in the city! haha) Compared to the other things you can do with your money, it is worth it.

This food tour of downtown, Old Town & Lincoln Park was about so much more than food. Emily, our tour guide, enthralled us with stories about people and places in Chicago, pointing out various architecture styles that non-locals would never have noticed. The tour is a real value for the money. Only downside is out of the eight places visited, two were chocolate establishments - wish there had been one other ethnic food store instead. All in all, it was a marvelous day.

My boyfriend and I had a great time on the tour. Not only did we get to try great food, we also learned a lot about Chicago history, and walked through three wonderful neighborhoods in Chicago. I would definitely recommend eating breakfast beforehand, because the substantial tastings are at the end of the tour. I wasn't too sure how much I would enjoy tasting tea, seasonings and oil, but it was a great experience. We enjoyed every tasting. Although you cannot shop on the tour (because that would take forever), every person gets coupons for discounts at each store to use later if they want to return. My only other suggestion would be to bring a water bottle or something to drink. You get tea at the second stop of the tour, and water is provided at a few later stops, but otherwise you have to purchase a drink in the middle...During the summer months, you definitely get thirsty and may not want to purchase a drink.

I am from Wichita, Kansas and had a wonderful time on the food tour. Each stop provided something good to snack on and information about Chicago's past. I had a sore knee, but was able to keep up with the group. I was with a friend on this tour, but plan on booking again the next time my husband and I go to Chicago. He would enjoy the spice shop and the oil and vinegar stop.

Neat way to learn about the city!

This was a really cool tour. We learned a lot about Chicago and visited some places I probably never would have seen otherwise. My only (relatively minor) complaint is that both the Spice House and the Oil/Vinegar shop (sorry the name escapes me at the moment) would have been better experiences if we'd had some bread at both tastings. Eating spices out of the palm of my hands and drinking oil and vinegar out of small cups were both really awkward experiences. Also, Nikki was a great tour guide.

There were three of us to see the city of Chicago and we started off with this tour. We all thought it was a great idea but didn't think we needed the "oil" or "spices" part of the tour. We were very wrong about that. That was one of the best parts. But the entire tour was wonderful. I asked our guide "Nicky" if she could get us into one of the houses for an "open house" next time. We would do it again and we got some good ideas of where to go & what to buy during our stay. We loved it!!!!!!!!!!
