Nicole our tour guide was very knowledgable about all 6 locations we visited, the surrounding neighborhoods & the house we viewed. I would recommened this tour to anyone. The food was great and we were very full by the end. There is a nice amount of walking involved also. Go try some local Chicago food! |

The three hour walking tour of food places and information about the Gold Coast and Old Town neighborhoods was fun, and enhanced my knowledge of these Chicago areas. I liked the variety of restaurants and specialty food stores. Our guide, Kent, was knowledgeable and entertaining. I would go on another walking tour with the Chicago Food Planet group. |

Our tour guide, Kent, was entertaining and knowledgeable of the area. While dining we would get a history lesson about the location. The food we tasted was very good and portions filling. The overall experience was fun and I would do it again. |

My wife and I are avid "foodies", which really means we watch a lot of television programming on food and always say we should try and find those off-the-beaten-path places that television hosts are finding. Well, this tour is exactly that! Our tour guide Kent (a wealth of humor, and knowledge) took us on an eclectic tour of Near North Chicago where we experienced not only delicious eats but some of Chicago's more unique architectural sights as well. My wife and I experienced a variety of delicious foods from pastrami laced Reuben's with Russian dressing to authentic Chicago style pizza, delicious homemade Pierogi's and tasty chocolate treats. At all times our guide, Kent was informative and humorous making the three hour foot walking tour seem to go by too quickly. Another surprising aspect of this tour is the knowledge that the variety of shop proprietors has on food related topics such as tea, and especially one of the co-owners of The Spice Shop who provided a 10 minute education on the history of pepper and the varieties of cinnamon which exist throughout the world! In all, my wife and I left stuffed, educated and glad we decided to experience Chicago through its food roots. We highly recommend this tour if you are looking for something off-the-beaten-path. |

I used to live in Chicago in the late 80s and have not been to Chinatown since then. I was a bit intimidated about returning as I did not "know" the restaurants anymore. Our guide, Alia was fabulous. She is a chef in her own right, has lived in lots of different places in the world and was full of information about Chinatown, it's culture, history and food. The food was excellent. I liked the Dim Sum the most. We went to a tea room, a market, went by a Buddhist temple, walked enough to feel able to eat at the next "stop". I had by mother (69yo and three teenagers). Everyone enjoyed the food and tour. I liked learning that the watertaxi stops at Chinatown. Thank you!! I will definitely be doing your other two tours. |

Ashkanaz's corn beef sandwishes were just OK. Deep dish pizza at Malnati's was a new experience. Really enjoyed the tea, spice, and oil specialty shops ! The chocolate & pastry shops were not extraordinary. Our guide (forgot her name) on Sat. Sept 1, 12:30 was excellent; so enthusiastic and informative. I particularly enjoyed the walk around the neighborhood, besides the sampling of foods. I think the price of $47. a little high, however, since they are introducing tourists to these establishments we otherwise would not know about. I went back to shop at the Spice House. $35. or $40. would be a better price. |

I imagined that this would be a fun activity, something different to do on our trip and a good way to try some local spots, but I was immensely impressed at the historical value of this tour as well. Well-planned with plenty of time to walk, rest, and digest, my husband and I were very taken with how much we enjoyed our experience. Thanks, Sophie! |

My friend and I went to Chicago for a girls' weekend and decided to try out a food tour; it didn't disappoint! It was great to learn about another area of Chicago and its history while getting to sample delicious food and drinks. Kent was the perfect balance of informative and entertaining. We found ourselves quoting him the rest of the weekend "No taco is worth waiting 2hr for" and "I'm going to explain the difference between a brew pub and a microbrewery - which people always confuse."
I will be telling any of my friends who go to Chicago to be sure to check out a food tour with Chicago Food Planet Food Tours. Personally, I can't wait to go back and try one of the other food tours, although I could easily do Bucktown/Wicker Park again! |
