Outstanding walk around Chicago neighborhoods.
Sat, May 23  11:00 AM sarge1 Female 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
We were four adults ranging in age from 27 to 60 (3 female, one male) who were 1000 miles from home. This fabulous walking tour of Chicago neighborhoods gave us an overview of unique buildings, city history, and food tasting at local shops. The eclectic mixture of samplings came from shops that included a deli, a tea shop, a chocolate maker, a spice emporium, an oil & vinegar vendor, a pizza restaurant. The walk was casually paced. We stopped to hear the history of buildings and neighborhoods between being treated to demonstrations and food tastings at local shops. This was an innovative way to get to know and appreciate Chicago. I have done this tour twice now in two consecutive years, and each time it was a delight.

Get out of the city: it's an easy trip on the EL from Clark/Lake Blue Line station, 4 stops towards O'Hare . Chicago is the most wonderful city for EATS, and Bucktown/Wicker was not a disappointment. I've been to Chicago several times for conventions and it has been too easy to get locked into the downtown scene. This trip I was determined to explore more, to take a step outside the Loop & Mag Mile. This tour was a great choice: foods from award-winning chefs/restaurants, leisurely exercise, verbal history of the neighborhoods, entertainment (clever guide) -- a great combination. One of the other group members had been on the Near North tour. She said there was more food on the B/W tour than NN, but she raved about the spice store on the NN tour. I intend to do NN next time I'm in ChiTown -- and hopefully go back to B/W to experience the fun neighborhood shopping as well as a long list (provided by our guide) of other restaurants in the area.

Interesting and full of variety

This was a very pleasant and informative tour. The seven food tasting stops had a good variety. We sampled: a latka, tea, fudge, cheese and cracker spread, oils and vinegars, spices, and, at the final stop, an amazingly delicious piece of pizza. The group consensus was that the oil and vinegar sampling was the best. You could keep sampling from about 10 balsamic vinegars aged up to 18 years and from about 10 extra virgin olive oils, mixing them yourself in a little cup and then sampling. At each sampling stop there was a lot of interesting and relevant information about the specialty food. Our guide, Jennifer, was very well informed about the architecture and history of the neighbourhoods we covered. Her enthusiasm and obvious interest herself in what she was showing us was infectious. She was sensitive to individual needs and interests of the tour participants. My only negative comment: the tour was overpriced, considering that there were 18 people in the group and the food samples were generally very small, and that the guide received gratuities.

Interesting and fun food tour + lots more

This was a great tour that everyone enjoyed. We had delicious food samples and learned about various areas of Chicago. Our tour guide was fabulous -- enthusiastic and able to answer all of our questions. There is a lot of fast walking, so be prepared -- not recommended for those who have a hard time keeping up -- you cover a lot of ground.

Great way to see and "taste" Chicago neighborhoods
Sun, May 3  11:30 AM LLucas Male 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Couple on a Date
Shane and Jessica took us through Chicago's Gold Coast, Old Town and Lincoln Park for a taste of Deli's, Tea, Spices, Chocolate, Cheese, Snacks and Pizza. They gave us an enthusiastic culinary, cultural and architectural tour of the neighborhoods and charmed us with humor and intelligence. We had a great, attentive and very friendly group. Shane and Jessie turned perfect strangers into a walking family by the end of the tour.

The perfect introduction to Chicago
Fri, May 1  11:00 AM JeanneSlater Female 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
We were the perfect test group for a tour. Two of us had previously enjoyed a short visit to Chicago, another had only seen a couple of restaurants and the inside of the convention center and I had never been there at all. The tour was informative, fun and very tasty. We also treasure the new resources we were introduced to on the tour. We had a suitcase full of tea and spices to share with friends and family here and are anxiously awaiting the arrival of the oils and vinegars that we had mailed.

Not only did we learn a lot about tea, spices, olive oil and balsamic vinegar and get to sample these (and chocolate!), we got to see and learn about interesting Chicago personalities, history and architecture. Our guides were VERY helpful and knowledgeable. The tour was the most fun of all that we did in Chicago!

A good way to learn about out of the way Chicago dining and drinking establishments. Sample and learn about good food and interesting dining establishments. Learn about the neighborhood and its history. A good time at a casual pace.

Exceeded Expectations
Fri, Apr 17  11:00 AM joelea Male 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the tour. We went back to several of the stops the next day. We live in a Minneapolis suburb. Our guide, Jennifer, was great!! She was extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The selected stops were all very interesting, informative and well worth the time. The tour exceeded our expectations not only because of the quality of the tour stops (we learned a lot), but the historical and architectural hightlights provided (or pointed out) by Jen. We recommended it to our Chicago cousins and they indicated they will do the tour soon. We look forward to returning to Chicago next year (fourth year) and doing the Bucktown/Wicker Park tour.

A lot of culture, not much food
Fri, Nov 28, 08   12:00 PM milford Male 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
I learned a lot about the neighborhoods we toured through, the housing and architecture and the various kinds of food related businesses we visited. That all was quite interesting and enlightening. Not much food was actually provided at the different stops at businesses so don't count on ending the tour feeling full.

Wonderful way to see new places in Chicago
Fri, Nov 14, 08   11:30 AM mfpero Female 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
The walking tour was a great way to see some of the architecture of Chicago while visiting interesting food shops and walking some streets I had never been on. Our guide, Kate, was well informed on the food products we tasted. She also shared interesting historical facts on the neighborhoods we walked through. We are from out of state so enjoyed learning about new areas to visit and places to shop in Old Town and Lincoln Park. The next day we revisited many of the stores to purchase the teas, oils and chocolates. i would recommend this tour to visitors and locals alike.
