not much food
Sat, Jun 30, 07   11:00 AM Tedwardsmith Male 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Couple on a Date
It wasn't a bad tour. The description was however misleading. There wasn't much in the way of food. The cheese and chocolate were nice to be sure, but it by no means was sufficient for a lunch. From the description, the tour was described more as a Taste of Chicago. That was clearly not the case. Specifically, there were three stops with chocolate, one of potato pancakes, and one of cheese. Because the tour took place over lunch, I would recommend a different description. It was simply a walking tour with some nice snacks along the way. The guide was knowledgeable. Overall, I would give the tour a tepid recommendation. For food, the "Taste of Chicago" For tours, there are many, many of them. So, it's okay but not great. Recommendations: tone down the description, be honest about what is actually offered, and add more attractions.

Inside Chicago

Our group of six, ages 17 to 58, enjoyed the tour very much.We had generous samples at all but one of the tastings. The one supposed tasting was some cinnamon on our hand. Although this spice place was really neat and the owner was very entertaining it didn't seem like that should have been considered one of the official tastings. She could have made a dip with some of the spices to go with crackers or something else that showed off her spices. Otherwise, the tour guide was interesting and we learned a lot about the Chicago that not everyone sees. We took the guides recommendation on one of the restaurants to come to in the evening and everthing was perfect there. It was Hugo Frogs.

A fun-filled day

Even though we live in a suburb of Chicago and frequently visit Chicago, we thoroughly enjoyed the tour. We learned new tidbits about the city and enjoyed restaurants that were "new" to us. The food was delicious and we had plenty to eat. Nicky, our tour guide, was energetic and very friendly.

We enjoyed the tour & thought it was a great way to see parts of the city that on our own we probably would not have seen. Thad (our guide) was very knowledgeable and easy to talk to. Our young adult children (17-21) both enjoyed it as well. It is a lot of walking so be prepared!

Interesting Chicago lore and food history

We enjoyed the neighborhood tour with descriptions of architecture styles. We never would have visited these areas on our own. The food was less in quantity than we expected, but quality was good. Best stop for us, the Spice Shop. We recommend this tour.

Good walking but not enough food

I was expecting a "food tasting" tour. The food we tasted was small and not what I expected. My best half loved the tour on the other hand. She was happy with the chocates and cheese we tasted. I needed more substance. The tour guide was great, honestly I would had been bored if it wasn't for his lively commentary. The places we walked to were interesting and probably would had never seen had we not taken the tour.

We had a great experience! Even though we have been to Chicago before, felt like we learned a lot about the neighborhoods and businesses along the way.

Our guide Shane was very knowledgeable about not only the tastings but also a great deal about the city including architecture, landmarks and so on. I would recommend this walking tour to anyone & everyone who visits the city. The tastings were exquisite as well.

Fun! You WILL need your best walking shoes. Tourist? Do this at the beginning of your visit to Chicago and you will have a much better idea of what you will want to eat/do while there. I should have taken small umbrella or rain jacket. Zerve was the easy way to get tickets. Thank you!

Great way to see Chicago Neighborhoods

We enjoyed the tour - it was an interesting way to see inside some of the neighborhoods in Chicago and sample some food from popular shops/restaurants within those neighborhoods. The tour guide highlighted some of the architecture and landmarks as we walked each neighborhood. Alot of fun and a great way to see the city from a different perspective.

A Great Walking Chicago"Tapas" Adventure

Our tour on a hot July day was delightful. We were able to see some out-of-the-way restaurants that we would not have seen otherwise, and as we walked from place to place wandered through a terrific part of the city. Our tour guide, Tad, was engaging (and knew a lot of stuff) and walked us past some of our city's treasures. I would love to have a map that showed exactly the path we took.

Best Activity in 15 Years

Our group of 8 friends has been going to Chicago every summer for 15 years, and everyone agreed that this was the best activity in which we have participated!! Shane was so much fun and very informative. We loved the walk through Gold Coast, Old Town, and Lincoln Park along with the shop stops. We were pleasantly surprised with not only the wonderful food and drink but with the factual information about the history of each shop. After the tour was over, we returned to the The Spice House, Tea Gschwendner, and The Fudge Pot to buy gifts for ourselves and others!!

Entertaining and informative

Looking for something different to do, I stumbled onto the Food Tour on the internet. It was the highlight of my trip since I had already seen the museums and other sights last year. Our guide, Shane, was very well informed and took us through many neighborhoods and gave us a great background of the different architectural styles and history. The weather was wonderful, and the group was fun to be with. The pace was an easy walking pace, and there was a restroom break and two places where we actually set down. My only complaint was that we were not allowed to buy at any of the stops, and they were rather difficult to find on our own. Also, the instructions on returning to the starting point were not correct since there was construction going on. I have a hearing deficiency, but was able to understand Shane's words easily. Make sure that you wear comfortable shoes for even though this comes advertised as a 2 mile trip, I think it was longer, and I walk 3 to 5 miles every day.

You won't regret it!

The tour was fantastic!! Tadd, our leader, was very personable and knowledgeable. It was such fun to see the various sights on the tour and hear Tadd's commentary. And to those who can't believe that enough food could be served to constitute a full meal, consider this: half a potato pancake, a 12 oz cup of delicious iced tea, an entire platter of chocolates, a huge basket of bread and cheese, two large pizzas divided among the group, and to top it all off: two scrumptious chocolates from Ethel's. Wow!!
