We would have appreciated knowing the marathon was scheduled for that day. Our tour guide was excellent. We plan to order from some of the food venues we visited.

The stops 1.Ashkenaz Deli - atonement required for a less than stellar latke 2.Tea Gschwendner - a lovely shop and a very interesting presentation 3.The Spice House - exotic and fascinating, an aromatic treat 4.Old Town Oil - way beyond what I expected - some of the balsamics really are good enuf to drink 5.The Fudge Pot - overindulgence city. Good thing we had a long walk ahead of us 6.CateringChocolate - Despite the Presidential Seal, an underwhelming stop 7.Bacino's - heart healthy pizza - because it makes you want to stay alive just to go back for more - yum yum 8.Ethel's Chocolate Lounge - had to miss this stop due to a date with a plane, but it's a destination we'll seek out when next in Chicago. The guide Emily - knowledgeable and lots of fun. Really made this neighborhood come alive. Thanks. A+

This tours takes you through a lovely neighborhood with stops at a variety of excellent shops. Our guide, Emily, was friendly, well-informed and delightful! The "butter toffee" was a favorite of many in the group and the stuffed pizza was a delicious lunch. Would even consider doing this tour again on my next visit to Chicago.

Informative Tour and food too.

Tour leader, Jenny, knew her onions. The visits to the various food establishments added an unusual bent to a walking tour of an interesting district and the choice of these outlets was ideal. Wouldn't hesitate in recommending it. Rosie

Great Concept

We enjoyed the tour very much. We are from the area and were aqauinted with some of the architectural discussion but the concept of a "food" oriented tour is very unique. We just wish there was more opportunity to taste from some of the great restaurants we passed rather than pizza and potato pancakes.

Insightful, entertaining and excellent value

Ideal way to get a 'taster' of Chicago's food and architecture with a local guide. Excellent range of food venues sampling delis, teas, herbs, spices, vinegars, oils, chocolates, and not to forget pizzas. These, and where else to visit, are all presented with insight and enthusiasm. The group size of up to 15 was just right and made it easy to learn what others knew about where to visit in Chicago. Be prepared for a reasonable amount of walking with an informative and knowledgeable guide. Our guide - Rebecca - did a brilliant job. A truly memorable and engaging way to explore Chicago - highly recommended.

This tour was a ton of fun. We're Chicago area natives and learned new things about our city. The tour guide, Rebecca, was very enthusiastic and made the afternoon a very enjoyable experience. We would and I already have recommended this tour to my friends.

2nd Time Around

This past Monday I went on the Near North Food Tasting and Cultural Walking Tour for the second time. I had gone in July with my husband and some friends and had such a great time I recommended it to two other friends who were both eager to go. Even though I had already experienced the tour, I had just as much fun as the first time, and both my friends loved it. I highly recommend this tour to anyone coming to visit Chicago and to people like me who have lived in the Chicago area forever!

Our guide was very knowledgeable and knew what to say and when. Never left us guessing, but didn't bore us with nonsense. The tidbits we got along the way was nothing ordinary, yet very interesting and tasty. The walking was good exercise with several rest stops. Learned information on Chicago that wasn't brought up on other tours. Would highly recommend and would also go again.

I would first like to express how much we loved our tour guide. She was fun, informative and kept our interest. She also kept us moving at a pace that was comfortable for us but also kept us interested. The actual tour was very factual and the food was plentiful and very tasty.

The Cultural Walk and Food Tour - Not to be Missed
Sat, Sep 20, 08   11:00 AM BevDelor Female 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
This particular tour was such an unexpected "find". It was more than 13 Plum Pretties of the Red Hat Society anticipated. Nicky, our guide, presented interesting facts about the various eateries and specialty shops. The shopkeepers' involvement and their contributions made things more interesting. The provided details were never boring and very well received by the ladies. It was deliciously delightful. The neighborhoods we walked through and tidbits of information about the various homes and buildings added excitement to the tour. Needless to say, I was so happy the 12 ladies traveling with me enjoyed it as much as I, especially since I had scheduled this outing for the Plum Pretties not knowing what to expect. It could not have been better or more fun. It was like finding a hidden secret. We all appreciated our guide's enthusiasm and professionalism, plus the friendly manner in which she gave of herself to the tour. I am certain Nicky's presentation added to the entire tour's success. I enthusiastically recommend this tour to others going to Chicago and looking for something new and fun to do. This tour is not to be missed. Thank you for a most wonderful afternoon. Hugs from The Plum Pretties, Beverley

Yummy Trip

Just a couple of old friends spending a beautiful, warm fall day walking and eating our way through the afternoon. The 8 places were varied and interesting, but the extra comments about each neighborhood and it's history and architecture were wonderful bonuses!

A Foodie's Delight
Mon, Sep 15, 08   11:30 AM estraub Female 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Individual
The walk through Gold Coast, Old Town and Lincoln Park neighborhoods, stopping for tastings at a variety of places, including a deli, a tea shop, a spice shop, a shop selling oils and vinegars, several chocolate places and a stuffed pizza place was terrific! It is an easy walk, and we learned about the neighborhoods as we passed through. At each stop, someone explained what they sold/made and gave us samples. It was a perfect way for a food lover to spend about 3 hours and learn about Chicago's food scene. Our guide, Nicky, was delightful, and our group was very congenial. I'm told they are adding a new tour and I will certainly try that when I'm back in Chicago. I'd highly recommend it to anyone with an interest in food. And, in the course of the tour, we ended up having a nice lunch by the bite.
