One of the best things we did in Chicago

I thought this Tasting and Cultural Tour was one of the best things to do in Chicago. I got to see some of the city during the walk. Learned the difference between stuffed and deep dish pizza (which was outstanding). Our guide was enthusiastic, the group was small enough for us to enjoy the places we went. It was well organized. I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to get the flavor of the city. In fact now when I go to other large cities I hope they have this kind of event.

Jennifer was a delight and added much skill and knowledge to our walk. We loved the stops, the shops, and the local insight. It was obvious that Jennifer loves Chicago. I would recommend this tour to anyone. I understand the time constraints, but it would have been fun to buy things.

Even in a downpour, this was a great experience!

Our Food Planet Tour was great, from start to even beyond finish! Emily, our guide, not only knew about the places and foods we'd be sampling, but had background about the places of business, the owners/managers and their history, and the buildings and events in the Near North area. She recognized the needs of the group and was also respectful of the places of business we were visiting. We learned a lot about this area of Chicago, even though we live so near many of these places! The added incentive of a few coupons will ensure that we will return and we were glad that the trip itself did not allow for shopping-that kept the pace and length of the tour very managable. We really recommend Chicago Food Planet tour to locals and visitors and are very excited to take the Bucktown/Wicker Park tour. We're hoping that you can expand your offerings to include the other unique neighborhoods of Chicago!

The majority of the three and a half hour tour is spent walking through he Gold Coast, Old Town and Lincoln Park. Frequent stops for short stories, historical perspective and, of course, tasting make the journey less a workout and more a stroll. However, at the end of the tour you will know that you walked a long way. The selection of places to stop and taste allows for every type of food preference, as well as, a few pleasant surprises. I plan to take this tour again in the future. It's that much fun.

participants should be able to buy items on the tour as it is sometimes not possibble to return to the shops in one's own time due to time constraints, etc

Great Gift!

My husband and I received this tour as a Christmas gift from our family. We are from Michigan and always enjoy going to Chicago for a mini vacation or a day of shopping. The tour was everything we hoped it would be and more. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about Chicago history, restaurants, stores, and the architecture of the residential buildings and neighborhoods. She was always eager to tell us more than we expected and she had a super disposition and great smile. We toured a variety of shops: deli, tea shop, spice store, oils, gourmet foods and cheese, two candy shops, and pizza parlor. Their samples were delicious. We were fortunate to visit when the owners were there and they shared extra stories and interesting facts with us. It was fun to meet the people in our group and learn from what part of the country they traveled. One person was visiting from the UK. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring an umbrella in case of rain. We had great weather. We highly recommend this tour.

Rain or Shine!

When they say the tour goes rain or shine, they aren't kidding. We did our tour during the rain from Gustav and it rained the entire day but it wasn't cold. There is plenty of walking but the stops are terrific and Emily was a great guide who knew a lot about the areas we walked through as well as the stops we made. I particularly enjoyed the Spice Market and Tom, the owner, who gave a great presentation on various cinnamons. The tea shop and oil store were also favorites of mine and I went retraced my steps (still in the rain) to make some purchases. I highly recommend the tour for some great shops and some interesting history of Chicago.

fun intro to local businesses and culture

The guide was great. She was well informed and responsive to questions. I've lived in the city for about a year and learned some new things about my neighborhood. I like history so personally I like more cultural and historical details, but the tour of the Gold Coast-Old Town neighborhoods was a nice introduction for my friend who's from out of town.

Very Interesting

I enjoyed the tour and the information. Our tour guide, while knowlegeable, has poor questioning skills and acted much like an elementary teacher. I'm confident she has no idea that she sets people up for never being able to answer correctly or in other instances, asks such obvious questions as to be condescending. ("Can you guess what language that might be?") The stops themselves were interesting. It was quite a long walk(4hrs), but I saw sights I would not have otherwise. I would recommend the tour, but not our guide.

Enjoyed the pacing and the variety. Would cut out the last chocolate in favor of adding an Asian offering. We also enjoyed the history of the local neighborhoods and would enjoy knowing more if available. Lastly, transpertation should at least be offered to get back to starting point, not saying it has to be free. Thanks, Steve and Carol

The Food Walking Tour was well thought out and well managed. Our guide was friendly, informal and knowledgeable. We enjoyed being introduced to a variety of specialty stores and shops, as well as being acquainted with some of Chicago's lesser known landmarks. We would recommend the tour to others and would go on the tour again.

Our leader was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The tour would have have been hard for someone with walking difficulties. We took the tour with our adult daughters and future daughter-in-law. We had a great time on a great day.

As a food industry professional, I found the tour interesting. The tour should be called the Food and Architecture Tour. The guide was extremely well versed in both specialty foods and the history of Chicago's buildings. I strongly urge anyone who has interest in these areas to take the tour.
