decent tour

This tour was pretty good. We would have liked more information about the neighborhoods, and one of the stops was not necessary (catering company), but overall this was a good overview of the Gold Coast, Old Town, and Lincoln Park areas.

Excellent, enthusiastic tour guide with wonderful places to stop and see in parts of Chicago we had never been too. We had terrific weather the day we walked which helps. Lots of fun with delicious treats to eat, we were full when we finished.

I didn't know what to expect on the tour and was pleasantly surprised. Our group consisted of 12 people from all areas and combinations. Our guide was enthusiastic and very knowledgeable of the area. The tastings at the various shops were interesting and different. My favorites were the Oil Shop and the pizza. We did walk quite a distance, but I didn't seem to mind because the group talked and shared, as well as the guide, about the area. I would recommend this tour with great enthusiasm and may even take it again with my husband or sister.

My daughter and I really enjoyed the tour as a part of our stay in Chicago. We enjoyed seeing the different neighborhoods as we probably would not have ventured off to them by ourselves. Kent, our guide, was very entertaining and provided a lot of historical and fun facts about each location. The food was great too - especially the pizza and chocolate.

This tour had it all. The group's guide was personable and knowledgable, the tastings varied and delicious (how can you go wrong with toffee, chocolate, and pizza!), and the neighborhoods' histories and architecture interesting. Be prepared though for a bit of a walk (20 to 25 minutes) before reaching last three tastings. Along the way, however, several stops highlighted interesting Chicago historical facts and buildings. Would highly recommend this whether an out-of-towner or Chicago native like my daughter who, though familiar with the neighborhoods, still learned a lot and discovered shops she'll definitely try again.

A good time with some great food!

My wife and I, along with her best friend, were looking for something to do that would be unique to Chicago. We love to try new foods, especially if the place we are visiting is known for something specific. We also like to see history and learn about new places. The walking food tour is a great way to accomplish both at the same time. Our guide, Kent, was great. He knew a lot about the area and was able to interject some humor along the way. We really enjoyed ourselves and highly recommend that anyone who likes food, history, or both take this tour!

Excellent Tour Guide little value for money

Our tour guide Emily was fantastic! She provided a lot of detail and was cheerful, enthuisatic and helpful. The best leg of the journey was Baccino Pizza. The pizza was delicious and plentiful. Although all the estabilshments provided tastes of their specialities, I felt as though some of them provided the minimum. I would not recommend it. My suggestion would be to provide an appetizer, entree and dessert and maybe rework the price and tour sites. Take Care,

My daughter & I went on this tour last weekend and it was the highlight of my visit to the City! We ate so much that we didn't need lunch OR dinner - and loved some of the shops so much that we went back that evening to purchase items to take home. The tour guide was wonderful - informative, fun, and personable. I would go on this tour again but am hoping that ther will be new tours developed for my next Chicago visit. Don't change a thing - this is the perfect way to spend a few hours getting to know the real Chicago.

We did a small group company outing and all really enjoyed the tour! We were able to go to places we had never been despite the fact that all of us were from Chicago. The tour guide was excellent and we would consider doing this again! Thanks!

Great for teens interested in Foods

The teen group I took on this tour really enjoyed it! They are representatives from a teen board who present food clinics and workshops to younger children in southwestern Ohio as part of 4H. They will have plenty of great info to use in future workshops. The reviews we read prior stated there was too much chocolate included on the tour. Their response to that was "there is no such thing as too much chocolate!" Actually only 2 of the 8 stops dealt with chocolate and both were very different experiences. The only suggestion I might make is to have something available at the spice shop to eat (maybe something with the cinnamon on it, perhaps from an establishment in Chicago that uses the spices from The Spice House). I will certainly recommend this trip to other Family and Consumer Science teachers as they plan trips to Chicago. Maybe advertise to 4H groups involved in food programs and on talk radio in local markets. I would think someone like Marilyn Harris would really enjoy the tour and mention it on her radio show. A lot of great info and food was included in a short time. Thanks for the experience!

It's hard to tell friends, "Yeah, we walked a couple miles, stopped for tastings and several local businesses, and learned a little history along the way" without their eyes glossing over and them wondering why you blew your money on something so boring. The reality, though, is just the opposite. The tour was the highlight of our day, and we still can't stop talking about the things we saw and did. Our guide was excellent, the shops were delightful, and the day was extraordinarily well-spent. We'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Jennifer, our guide, was enthusiastic, knowledgeable and full of joie de vivre. We had a thoroughly wonderful experience. Having lived all my life in Chicago I still learned a thing or two about my city, in addition to enjoying all the food stops. I hope you will create other tours equal to this one. I have already recommended this to several of my friends. Kudos for a job well done. Thanks to our lovely guide as well.

Cross Section of Chicago Culinary and Culture

This is much more than your average food tour. Not only do you get a taste of Chicago's culinary offerings, but a feel for the history and the pride of the people of the city of Chicago. Many members of our tour group stated that they really enjoyed everything about the tour and were particularly taken with the tea, spice and oil shops for their uniqueness. The food items provided for tasting were a well rounded assortment and plenty for my party. I believe all of us were especially impressed with our tour guide, Kate, who was not only knowledgeable and easy to talk to but friendly to one and all. She made the experience even more enjoyable. I would recommend this tour to anyone who wants to get the true "flavor" of Chicago.

Touring the tea house, spice shop and oil/vinegar shop were the three highlights of the food portion on this tour. The pairing of Chicago history while strolling through Lincoln Park, Olde Towne, the Gold Coast, etc. made the tour far superior to just a "Food tour". Our guide was a pleasure and kept the group moving when required. My wife and I would recommend this tour to anyone. Have a good breakfast that morning and wear comfortable shoes. Enjoy!
