The experience turned out better that we expected. The knowledgeable and friendly tour guide not only provided interesting information at each food stop, but also included history and facts about the neighborhoods we visited. We highly recommend this tour for locals as well as out of towners!

What Fun!

The Chicago Food Planet Food Tour was one of the most fun activities we have done in a long time, and I would highly recommend it to others looking for a delightful way to spend an afternoon getting to know Chicago better. Our guide Emily provided us with much entertaining and knowledgeble information about the geographic area, the buildings we passed, the history of the area, and the fun things to do in that area. In addition, the businesses/restaurants we stopped at were very accomodating and the "tastes" we had at each one were great. We will definitely go back to many of these places in the future.

Highly Recommended!

This tour had it all. The group's guide was personable and knowledgable, the tastings varied and delicious (how can you go wrong with toffee, chocolate, and pizza!), and the neighborhoods' histories and architecture interesting. Be prepared though for a bit of a walk (20 to 25 minutes) before reaching last three tastings. Along the way, however, several stops highlighted interesting Chicago historical facts and buildings. Would highly recommend this whether an out-of-towner or Chicago native like my daughter who, though familiar with the neighborhoods, still learned a lot and discovered shops she'll definitely try again.

Worth more than we paid.

We had a great tour leader who was full of energy and knowledge. Our group was a bunch of fun and we all enjoyed each other. Food tasting was wonderful, city knowledge that the guide added was special. Exercise was appreciated to help wear off the calories from the great tastings. We loved it. Our guide was a photographer and she was really special. She was considerate and full of tidbits and fun. We'd do it again.

Enjoying Chicago's neighborhood flavors

Our guide Nikki (?sp) made each step and taste of our tour a delight. We have been to Chicago many times but typically have not gottem to see the neighborhoods from the inside. We learned a great deal about the history of the neighborhoods and had a grand time tasting our way through each. The list of vendors on our tasting tour is now in an archive we keep of places to go and we have already bought from two of those vendors. We'd both agree that learning about the Spice Merchant and Old Town Oil would alone have made the tour worthwhile, but gourmet catering, chocolates, teas, and, of course, Chicago stufed pizza were wonderful as well.

Excellent Tour Guide little value for money

Our tour guide Emily was fantastic! She provided a lot of detail and was cheerful, enthuisatic and helpful. The best leg of the journey was Baccino Pizza. The pizza was delicious and plentiful. Although all the estabilshments provided tastes of their specialities, I felt as though some of them provided the minimum. I would not recommend it. My suggestion would be to provide an appetizer, entree and dessert and maybe rework the price and tour sites. Take Care,

Great day activity

What a great way to have fun and learn some history as well. It was very hot and humid on the day of my tour, but we all had a great time. The walk takes you through many shaded neighborhoods which kept us cooler. The walk was not fast paced, but yet not a stroll. What a great opportunity to go places and see neighborhoods that normally one wouldn't know how to get to unless familiar with the area. Our guide was great and kept everyone on track. Would really love to do another walking tour to another area of the city. It is true that you will not need lunch after the tour as the 'tasting' was enough. We did feel a bit rushed however in the oil and vinegar store, only because it was a tasting place and not enough time allotted. Although we ended way north, we ventured on to the EL to get us back to the Loop. That too was a first for us and very easy. What a fun day!

Great Architectural Bonus Tour!

Our Tour Guide (Nikki) was a terriffice moderator As far as calling it a food tour, I have to say that tasting oils and spices as two of the stops, really dosen't justify calling it a "Food Tour" However the 3 1/2 hours we spent walking was made very enjoyable by Nikki and seeing the architecture in the different neighborhoods was wonderful You really should change the name of the tour!

Wonderful

We are 5 women who grew up in Chicago and never saw some of the things that we saw on this tour. It was very interesting. Our leader (Jennifer) was very well informed and seemed to be having as much fun as we did. The tastings were great and introduced us to some new things. We are looking forward to other tours that you might be offering in the future. Keep up the good work.

A bit too much walking for 60 plus years
Tue, Jul 8, 08   11:30 AM Pattiloch Female 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
I wish I had known that there was alot of walking and not much tasting. As a Senior citizen it was at times difficult to do that much walking. The history of the areas we walked through was interesting and our tour guide made it more alive. Price a bit high for all of the walking and less tasting that was done. Wish there had been more time to make a purchase or 2 at some of the shops. I never had time to get back to them nor the ability to walk back.

We had the tour on the first day of our first visit to Chicago - we enjoyed very much to have this kind of introduction, giving insight also in the culture and hinstory of Chicago.

Jennifer, our guide, was enthusiastic, knowledgeable and full of joie de vivre. We had a thoroughly wonderful experience. Having lived all my life in Chicago I still learned a thing or two about my city, in addition to enjoying all the food stops. I hope you will create other tours equal to this one. I have already recommended this to several of my friends. Kudos for a job well done. Thanks to our lovely guide as well.

Much More than Food Tasting
Sun, Jun 29, 08   11:30 AM madge6 Female 60-69 Local Couple on a Date
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this tour. It was much more than we expected because we learned many things about various foods and the Chicago neighborhoods of Old Town, the Gold Coast and Lincoln Park. Our tour guide was excellent, personable, and very knowledgeable about the neighborhoods we toured. The experts in the food stops were more informative. We would like to try another tour in different neighborhoods. Our only comment is that when visiting Old Town Oil you provide bread or lettuce to dip in the oil to taste it better after it was selected and mixed.
