Very Informative

Nikki was very informative and knowledgeable about the area she showed us. Even though it was a last minute addition to our itinerary, it was well worth it and we plan on going back on another food tour. We even made a second stop after the tour to some of the shops to purchase some items! Well worth it!

very interesting and entertaining way to see part of Chicago that normally most tourists to this city will not see on their own

Insider Knowledge of Chicago
Sat, Nov 29, 08   11:30 AM jamesnunn Male 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
This was our 2nd food tour in Chicago and it was a quality experience. Our tour guide was very articulate and had a detailed understanding of the Wicker Park area. Our son is going to school in Chicago and hangs out in Wicker Park --even he learned things he never knew. We always enjoy the history and cultural infomation from the tours and the food is just an added benefit. We keep the tour info so we can use next time we are in Chicago. Strongly recommend

Great tour!

From the initial greeting to the final departing this tour was top notch. The food tastings were from an outstanding selection of tier one mom and pop shops. The guide enlightened us on many aspects of the local community, including the architecture, the history (from 1800's to recent), and other tid-bits of interesting information. This tour is a MUST if you are a chocolate lover as two of the tasting are from unbelievable chocolatiers.

A lot of culture, not much food

I learned a lot about the neighborhoods we toured through, the housing and architecture and the various kinds of food related businesses we visited. That all was quite interesting and enlightening. Not much food was actually provided at the different stops at businesses so don't count on ending the tour feeling full.

What a Fun Tour!

I visit my Chicago family every Thanksgiving with my grown children, and we try to find something fun to do every year. We hit the jackpot with this food tour. It was not only a food tour, but an architectural and historic tour of Bucktown and Wicker Park. The food was sensational, the tour was interesting and informative, and the guide was so warm and personable that we felt she was not just a tour guide, but, for three hours, also our friend. Twenty thumbs way, way up!

Overpriced!
Fri, Nov 28, 08   11:30 AM vkylakos Male 30-39 Combination Family With Children
Way too expensive compared to the amount of food and cultural info included. The only substantial food item was the slice of pizza that was served almost in the end of the tour. The tour kept us hungry to that point while the impression from the brochures was that the food tasting samples would keep the hunger away.

Happy Bellies and riddled with Knowledge

I went to Chicago with my girlfriend and another couple (both being friends from work). We spent the entire 5 days sight seeing all over Chicago ie planetarium, aquarium, museums etc, but the best day we had was spent in Bucktown/Wicker Park. We met at Georges Hot dog stand where we had the best tasting hotdogs I've had in my life. We continued through the streets of Bucktown and then on to Wicker Park. As we walked through the neighborhood we were taught about the rich culture and archetecture that was established throughout history. Our Guide Kent was fantastic. He was able to answer most if not all, the questions that was asked and was able to talk about his neighborhood with excitement. He provided a rich history and outlined some of the best hotspots to dine at. I can say I truely enjoyed all the food I given to try ie Hotdogs to thin crust pizza to homemade marshmellows and hot chocolate. Finally ending at a little chocolate store for yes chocolate tasting...mmmmm. To go along with that thin crust pizza previously mentioned was also a beer sampling at a little microbrewery. I just wish I could have had more. My only complaint for that day has absolutely nothing to do with the tour itself, but with the weather. It was quite cold for the day, and a bit snowy which made standing out on the street a little hard. But the warm food and drinks completely made up for the cold weather. In conclusion I would have to highly recommend this tour. The tour guide was great, the food was awesome, and the history within the area was indeed very fascinating. Just hope you pick a date that the weather is good. I would go back for a second tour. Good food, good friends, good times Thanks again

Wonderful!

I had a great time on the tour. The tour guide was wonderful, pleasant, informative. The locations chosen were nice, and walking through the neighborhoods with commentary about history and architecture added a lot. I went back to 3 of the stores after the tour to make purchases. The only negative was the Ashkenaz deli. The latkas were awful. They were very greasy, not crispy. Not like a good latke should be. For people on the tour who have never eaten one, this was a poor example of a latke. Thanks.

A Perfect Introduction to the City
Sun, Nov 9, 08   11:00 AM larison3 Male 20-29 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
My friend and I took this tour midday Sunday after having spent the weekend in downtown Chicago. While staying in the downtown area was convenient for all of the sightseeing we'd done, we both agreed that we wish we'd been on the tour sooner so that we would've known about all of the attractions in the near north neighborhoods. Every stop on the tour was informative (and delicious!) I'm studying food science at the Ohio State University and I still found myself learning new things everywhere we went. I believe some of that is a testament to Chicago Food Planet and the participating stores, but I credit our guide Jennifer with most of that. She worked tirelessly to engage everyone in our group, all the while sharing more bits of trivia about architecture, food, and the city than I ever would have expected. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone new to the city with a taste for good food.

FANTASTIC

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Not only was the places we visited and ate at terrific, the history of Chicago that we learned was very interesting. We cannot wait to return to Chicago to take the South Shore tour. It was one of our best memories of our trip. And last but not least, Nicki, our guide was the best! Informative, outgoing, exuberant, friendly and just great!
