Great way to view a "different" side of Chicago

| Everyone tours downtown Chicago, but if you want to see the "softer side", I would highly recommend the food tour. Our tour guide "Nicki" was great. She kept us going at a good pace, informed us of the neighborhoods we were in, pointed out different restaurants along the way, and spread out the food tastings in a way where you didn't eat everything all at once. The tour was so well organized, that we never had to wait for our tasting. The first stop, there were at least 50 potato pancakes individually wrapped, and waiting for us. When we reached the pizza place, again, three pizzas came out, the table was set, it was great. The food is not little tiny samplings either. We could hardly eat dinner, 5 hours later. We were given great coupons to use after the tour. We actually went back and took advantage of two of the stops on our tour. I would highly recommend this tour. | ||||||

| We had an absolute blast and learned quite a bit more about the city than we thought we would. It was all very interesting, and the food was very good, with one exception. None of us (six) enjoyed the potato pancakes. They were very greasy and heavy, and not a good way to start the tour at 11am. It didn't detract from the tour; we just ate a few bites to be polite and pitched them. | ||||||

| My wife and I really enjoyed the tour. It was very informative and took us to places we would probably not have found on our own. The food was really interesting - and tasty but it was good have information given about other aspects of Chicago such as architecture. | ||||||

| The food from all the restaurants was great; our tour guide (Kent) was knowledgeable and personable; the area was beautiful and interesting - in short, it was all good. We've been to Chicago several times but would never have explored this area of town if it hadn't been for this tour. We liked it so much we went back on our own a few days later and purchased more food to take home with us. Four of the six businesses on the tour were owned and operated by women and I liked being able to support young entrepreneurs, while enjoying great food too. The walking even helped offset the calories consumed! Great experience, I highly recommend it! | ||||||

| I was truly impressed by the food tour. I thought it was well organized and thought out. I loved both the food introduced and architectural/historical tour. We covered a lot of ground and food within a short period of time but it flew quickly by. Our tour guide Jennifer was such a pleasure. She was courteous, gracious and engaging and I would highly recommend her as a tour guide for others in the future. My top three highlights of the tour would be the tea geschwender shop, the spice merchants and the Old Town Oil. The stops were very informative. Being from San Francisco and a food lover I didn't think I would see anything new that I haven't already seen before. Boy was I wrong! LOVED LOVED LOVED THE TOUR!! A big thumbs up and a big "shout out" to Jennifer!! Sheila Calegari | ||||||

| I went on many tours during my visit to Chicago and this one was by far the best. Shane was fun, outgoing, and very knowledgable about the food and the city of Chicago. I had so much fun walking with the group and learning about the different foods, landmarks and history of Chicago. I recommend this tour to anyone who loves to walk, eat and learn about history. | ||||||

| If you tired of shopping and want something different try both of the food tours. Great if you are by yourself and want something to do as the groups are always alot of fun. Interesting to see different parts of the city and try local food. | ||||||

| My husband and I had been on the Food and Cultural tour in NYC for Greenwhich Village. It was outstanding! We were a little dissapointed with this one. First we thought a bottle of water should have been given at the beginning. I don't think it was appropriate for the tour guide to mention gratuities at the start of the tour. If you want to mention it on the ticket or website fine. Our guide in NYC never mentioned it and everyone knew what to do. It comes off classier. Their weren't many tastings. And while I appreciated the uniqueness of the places nothing was too outstanding. | ||||||

| The guides were great, knowledgeble and entertaining. The tour was full of food info, restaraunt info and local info. For someone from out of state, it was a great way to get a feel for the area to be able to go back and shop. I definitely recommend it to people visiting and locals as well. | ||||||

| Put on your walking shoes. Wish we could have done a little shopping while at the stores verses walking back after the tour to make our purchases. Would recommend you go on this tour if you'll be in town for more than one day. Amtrak can be late and put you behind schedule and in turn you'll miss part of the tour. Also, staying in Chicago or being able to make your purchases durning the tour would allow you to rest after the tour and enjoy one of the local cafes or hit another part of the city before dinner. | ||||||

| This tour was fun. It is a little misleading in the advertising though. We had fun, but thought the tour would include more ethnic food establishments. One chocolate place would have been enough. We would reccommend this tour. If you are looking for a " food tour", don't expect to be eating your way through chicago. There are stops at a spice house, a tea shop, and an oil shop. Only 2 real food establishments | ||||||

OUTSTANDING EXPERIENCE OF CHICAGO HAD BY ALL

| Our group consisted of our 23 year old daughter who works in the sears tower, our 21 year old daughter fresh from college graduation, my husband and myself, and another couple who have been our friends for many years. we have all traveled widely and this food tour was something special and different. I had taken the food tour last fall and LOVED IT. though I had been to chicago many times the food tour was the most excellent way to learn about a fascinating area, enjoy the tastes and scents of many great shops, and enjoy the easy-going atmosphere of visiting with new friends and just plain have a great afternoon. It was the highlight of the trip for all my family and friends. We enjoyed every sampling, and as I wrote earlier, I would only suggest that the final location, ethel's chocolate, have one of the people who make the chocolates come out and talk about them AND mention that they have another shop on miracle mile. the printing on the special chocolates is so great; the TASTES were lucious and so different from anything else, and I think the prices are good. Visiting with the spice place manager caused some of us to purchase a few items, and we will surely order items since we collected their brochure. Ethels could do just a little more, I thought. Another suggestion I would make is to add a visit to one of the little shops that sell clothes designed by one of the local designers. Chicago has a fashion presence and I feel sure we must have walked by some little boutique that could show off this dimension of the area. yes, it is hard not to let us buy things. but I took the tour a SECONDTIME and made a few purchases. forgot to use the coupons...oh, well. I vote you all 5 stars regards, sheri constantin | ||||||

| This was my second experience with the same tour; did it with local friends and Shane as host, last fall. This time our group included local daughter who took day off, 21 year old recent college grad, and our 2 adult friends from Traverse City, MI, their second visit to the city. ALL of us loved the easy informal get-to-know each other format and all the locations and historical information. the print-out of places we visited as well as nearby restaurants was most appreciated and I have used the sheet from last fall several times. I understand the time issues about "no shopping" but that is one of the things I really enjoyed this time since I had heard the tour. the hightlights were clearly the merchants but think the chocolate folks (ethel's) should have had a spokes person and told everyone another spot was along miracle mile. Their samples were delectible and merited more "chat" and easier to entice tasters to buy. the spice owner was fabulous and again a highlight. the coupons were appreciated and I forgot to use mine! The bread guy from last fall was great. How abouta local clothes designer visit? know it is non-food but think we could enjoy a little about the clothing scene around armitage. all in all it was a great way to learn about a part of the city that is very interesting. regards, sheri from TC. | ||||||

| We enjoyed our tour guide and the walking tour. The stops that we made were interesting. I was disappointed in the amount of food that we had on the tour. We basically had ice tea, some cheese, candy and a slice of pizza. I didn't think tasting balsamic vinegar and olive oil or sniffing herbs counted as "real" food. I thought for $40 a person that really was not much food. I tried to justify it by saying that the tour was 3 and a half hours and exploring Chicago was fun and worth the money. | ||||||
