Our group thoroughly enjoyed our delightful tour guide, the food tasting was wonderful, and we actually learned a lot as well.

Best way to see Chicago

Our guide, Ariela, was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Knew so much about her great city - more than just a job. This is a must do in Chicago, not just for the food but the information about the neighborhoods, architecture and what to do while you're there. Do this early on in your trip so you can go back and visit the neighborhoods and restaurants!

Wonderful tour, food was fabulous, tour guide so knowledgeable and enthusiastic! Timing was perfect regarding walking and rest stops. I had so much fun! I travel alot and have been on many tours, honestly this was the most enjoyable ever!

This is why we travel - to meet sympathetic, enthusiastic locals sharing their favorite spots all of which involve food! A great way to see more of a great city.

An Exciting New Look at a Familiar Neighborhood

I've been going to Bucktown/Wicker Park for shopping, art festivals, dining, etc. for years - but mostly to the same tried and true places. The tour took me to places I might not have tried - and which I fell in love with (and dragged my husband back to the following day!). Not only did I 'discover' some new restaurants and some great new flavors (along with some stellar architecture and history!), but I also 'discovered' some new shops. I ended up staying 3 hours after the tour was over and did my part to stimulate the economy! I HIGHLY recommend this tour to anyone who likes to eat and who lives in a building! (Seriously, I had high expectations based on an article I'd read in Chicago magazine, but the tour surpassed those expectations by a long shot! I LOVED it!)

It's one of the most fun things we did!

This is the 2nd food tour I have been on - I loved both of them. The tour guide (Kari) was so much fun and so knowledgeable about whatever she was showing us. The food was so delicious and the architecture was absolutely lovely! There was so much food - maybe a little more walking would be good on the Wicker Park tour. I wish you would add another tour - we're coming back next year and will certainly go on it again! We all loved it!

Didn't feel welcome at the establishments

There was a lot of shuffling around. When we arrived, we were directed to wait inside George's, then we were brought outside for the welcome speech, and then went BACK inside to eat. Similar experience at iCream -- we started in the back, then went to the front to watch the machines, then BACK to the back for samples. As for food, George's dogs are good, but it would be nice to have an option on the hot dog toppings. Loved Hot Chocolate, but felt like we were intruding on other diners' space. Pasta salad at Goddess & Grocer was an odd choice, and we were crowded in the back by the cash register instead of being offered the table in front. Since Chicago is known for its deep-dish pizza, why have thin crust at Piece? Sultan's Market people were friendly and the food was good. iCream has a delicious product, but the owner didn't even make eye contact or acknowledge we were there. Our guide was a little goofy and overly dramatic (our college-student nephew and his friend thought so too). A friend had recommended this tour, but I couldn't do the same. Maybe she had a different guide.

Something different

I and a friend really enjoyed the Gold Coast walking tour. It was a nice mix for the tastebuds (Jewish deli, tea, spices, olive oil, chocolate, appetizers and pizza). I felt we received plenty to eat plus I liked the architectural trivia along the way. Will definitely be ordering from some of the places since we did not have time to buy during the tour which was understandable. .

I thought I already knew everything there is to do

We called the number on the electronic boarding passes that spoke of the tour after we were already in Chicago. We decided to try it since we had done most of the tourist stuff listed in books. What a great time we had and to think when we left for Chicago this wasn't even on the list of things to do. It ended up being the highlight of the trip.

This is the second tour my daughter and I have gone on with Chicago Food Planet and I would highly recommend them. Our guide, Jessie, was knowledgeable and enthusiastic and we enjoyed visiting neighborhoods and restaurants that we hadn't been to before. We are not from the Chicago area and this gave us an opportunity to get out of the tourist areas and see some other areas of the city.

We truly enjoyed this experience! Our tour guide was bubbly and vivacious and truly knowledgeable about the tastings, the area, architecture and culture. We loved each and every stop on the tour because, for us, most of it was completely different than anything we had ever experienced. The teashop? - Wow!! The oil and spice shops? - double wow!! The time just flew and it was over too quick - but then you get to go back and shop - even better wow! We will definitely be signing up for another tour the next time we are in town. Thanks so much!

This tour was taken by our family composed of our adult children and spouses and one grandchild (1 year old) to celebrate a birthday. It was a rainy, cold day in Chicago and we were hesitant about walking around in poor weather. From the start at George's hot dog stand, we were excited to hear about the food and the town. Carrie did a great job telling location history, chef's background, interesting food facts, and local architecture. It became a fun adventure and one we will always remember. But a warning....there is soooo much food....take it easy to get it all in! Well worth the cost and the time.

You will need comfortable shoes and be able to walk about 3 miles (1.5 on the tour and 1.5 back to buy all the great eats! Our guide was interesting and we learned about buildings, people, and some history. The variety of places were great - candy, spices, oils, pizza, deli!
