Fabulous Friday Frolic

This was our third of the three Food Planet tours in Chicago. Each has been a wonderful adventure through the different neighborhoods and culinary experiences. Although this Near North/Old Town tour does finish far from the start, the trip back along different streets was almost as enjoyable. It just lacked the tasting stops and our fabulous tour guide, Heather. I recommend these tours to everyone and hope that additional tours through other Chicago neighborhoods will soon be available.

The Chicago Food Tour of Chicago's China Town was the best food tour I've ever been on. There was just enough history mixed with food parings and walking to make the entire experience perfect. Learning the authentic ways to quietly grab the attentions of the wait staff along with learning about the history and traditions surrounding the creation of China Town in Chicago was an excellent balance of what a food tour needs. Our guide (Lisa) was a wealth of knowledge and obviously comfortable with all the places we visited as well. Now that I've attended this food tour, I have the confidence to explore Chicago's China Town on any future trips to Chicago - which makes this tour an even better value! - @Dana365

Great way to spend an afternoon in the city!

We read about the tour online and decided to give it a try. Turned out be be great fun and a wonderful way for a visitor to the city to get to know areas of town away from the typical tourist destinations. Kent was a wonderful. energetic, and entertaining guide. He really seemed to enjoy the tour himself and seemed happy to share his neighborhood with those of us on the tour. He made a point of visiting with all the people on the tour. I enjoyed the variety of the restaurants that we visited. I would be happy to try another tour on upcoming visits to Chicago and will certainly recommend to friends.

We had previously done the Near Northside Tour and liked it so much we decided to try the Wicker Park/Bucktown Tour. Our guide, Coleen, was pleasant, friendly, and had good knowledge of the area. We were both pleased with the sampling of award winning eateries combined with an historical tour of the area. I was surprised to see so many beautifully restored Victorian homes. For us this was a good way to get acquainted with a part of Chicago we probably would not have come to on our own. I heartily recommend the tour to anyone who wants to see the unique character of a Chicago neighborhood.

We loved it because the tour was well designed and the guide was terrific. In fact, we returned to Wicker Park that evening for supper! Great job. One note: You should advise your clients to skip breakfast so as to get there with an empty stomach. There was lots of food.

Enjoyed the Near North Food Tour

This was my first food tour and I didn't really know what to expect, but I enjoyed the experience. This was more of a small food "sampling" but was a overall success. The only downsides of the tour were that we went to a "spice market", tea shop, and an "oil/vinegar" shop, which I don't really consider foods.

It was our first time in Chicago, we loved the city, me made various tours to know about the city, but the food tour was almost the best part. Our Guide Kent, is very kindly, smart and denotes that he love his work, he knows the neighborhoods very well, and his histories gives a plus to the food tour; the food that we tasted was very good, the tea and spices stop very interesting. I will recommend this tour to every people I know.

Nice event, not worth the cost

We had a great tour guide and got to visit nice places but this tour isn't worth the money. At one place we sampled spices and another olive oil & balsamic vinegar - while these places were nice and I would recommend visiting anyone off the street could have sampled these at no cost.

We've been to Chicago several times and wanted to learn more about the areas beyond downtown. We also enjoy good food. This tour had a nice mix of history of the area and food. It was more than enough food for lunch. I will say that as experienced eaters the food provided wasn't anything unusual to us. But it all tasted good which is what really matters. The guide obviously knew the area quite well. Highly recommend this tour.

Terrific Tour & Tasting!!

The Near North Food Planet tour and tasting lives up to all the glowing reviews I read before booking it! Five adults and one infant took the tour on a beautiful August day. Our tour guide, Jess, was phenomenal -- blending just the right amount of history, architecture, anecdotes and fun facts with our delicious tastings throughout Chicago's Gold Coast and Old Town. The Oil & Vinegar, Spice, and Tea shops were especially wonderful and we stopped and ordered our favorites from the tour on our way back to the car. A couple of suggestions: we had a baby in a stroller with us and even though the tour is "stroller friendly", I wouldn't recommend it as several of the stops have stairs, and the Spice Shop has a back garden that the stroller was just too difficult to maneuver. Also, the last shop, a Polish bakery/deli was our group's least favorite stop -- there must be a better yummy dessert replacement for it -- it just wasn't up to par with all the other stops on the tour. Finally, there is a very reasonable parking garage right next to the first stop on Cedar Street and I think the tour info should say so, since some in our party were worried about where to park and parked farther away. All in all, I highly recommend this tour to anyone living in, or visiting Chicago and I look forward to trying either the Chinatown or Bucktown tours on my next trip to the Windy City.

We spent a wonderful three hours learning not only about the culinary delights of the area, but also of the architecture and culture. My adult daughter and I both loved it, and came back the next day to sample some more.
