Great way to get to know Chicago

Our guide Emily was very friendly and informative. The foods we sampled were very good and even tough our feet hurt by the end, we were very glad to have selected the tour as one of the ways we got to experience Chicago.

Eye-opening and mouth-watering

As new visitors to Chicago, this was a chance to see something outside of the loop and water-tower square. Each establishment was welcoming and helped us to understand what they do. My wife and I learned many new things and will have great memories, pictures and video from the tour. Thanks

Great way to see Chicago & taste it's delights

We just returned home from this tour and really enjoyed it. Kent our tour guide really knows his stuff, both the area and the food/restaurants he takes us to. I agree with a few of the other customer reviews, some places aren't quite as interesting, but that's only my opinion. Catering/chocolate had great cheese, but nothing crash hot especially looking at the array they have available. Standout favorites are the spice shop & oil/vinegar shop, both of which we plan to go back to buy things. Highly recommended.

Nikki, our guide, was great. The Catering/chocolate stop was useless...all others were good.

A fabulous way to experience Chicago!

My wife and I were visiting from Canada and it was the highlight of our trip! We learned so much great information and saw such beautiful buildings and houses along the way, including the old playboy mansion. The trendy little shops were just great and the food too! I would recommend however to wear very comfortable shoes and to watch for uneven pavement in spots as one lady fell. People of all ages seemed to enjoy the tour as well and for people who wish to know about the best places to eat and visit or anything else you might want to know about Chicago, this is a great way to find out! Have fun!

Good, but probably not for "foodies"
Fri, Aug 15, 08   11:30 AM kenhunt Male 30-39 International Tourist(s) Family Without Children
While a couple of the stops were very interesting, about half of them disappointed in one way or another. The Jewish deli was nothing more than a place to meet and have a pretty average latke. The cheese stop, Catering & Chocolate, was a couple pieces of tame cheese without any real discussion of them. The first chocolate shop, the Fudge Stop, may make some interesting confections, but their chocolate is sub-par. The tea shop, the oil shop, spice store, and the pizza were all worthwhile, though, and the guide was very friendly and professional. The three hours went by quickly. Overall, this is a fine tour and enjoyable for people who don't consider themselves real "foodies". If you're looking for off-the-beaten-track flavours and experiences, it's probably best to look elsewhere, but if you're looking for a pleasant introduction to a few Chicago neighbourhoods, this provides good value for the money.

Had a great time and a wonderful guide.

I had a wonderful time on the tour. The easy way to put this is, there was a middle aged woman of about 50 or so who said at the end of the tour, "I have lived in Chicago all my life and I have never been to any of these wonderful places." If you can show local people things they had never seen, I know I was getting a treat. As a side note i felt the tour guide Kent was a very wonderful and well informed gentlmen. I am a man who love food, but I really think he made the tour for me.

Whether you care about the differences between teas or some architectural sights, this tour has plenty of both. Even those just being dragged along for the tour shall find this a very worthwhile 3 hours.

We had a great time on the tour. Our guide, Jennifer, was very knowledgeable about the neighborhoods. At the end of the tour, she gave us some great recommendations about other places around Chicago to visit and explore. The length of the tour seemed just right. We also enjoyed the variety of foods and the fact that all of the businesses were local, independent places. Similarly, exploring residential neighborhoods that were off the beaten track for a typical tourist was great. We'd definitely recommend the tour, and we hope that Chicago Food Planet will consider expanding its offerings with other food/neighborhood tours in other sections of the city.

This was our favorite attraction in Chicago besides Wrigley field. Great walking tour of three chicago historic neighborhoods with snacks along the way. What could be wrong with that.

Took family (of 4) + 2 (niece & Nephew - both over 21) to Chicago. Food tour was great! Went back and had dinner at the pizza restaurant, bought spices, oil & vinegar and chocolates at places that were on the tour. Also, ate at one of the recommended spots (Bistrot Margot) that was the best meal we had oon our trip. Will recommend to others, will be purchasing over the internet at these places. Emily was the best!

Our guide (Nikki) a woman around forty was excellent and full of a lot of interesting things to tell us. She paced the tour so that no one was left out. She obviously had a good relationship with the shop keepers we visited. Your add was right about it taking care of lunch for the day. All in all a well spent two hours.
