Informative and interesting tour

| The tour was very interesting and the attention to architecture and the stories behind it was entertaining and informative. The shops we visited were places that might be called unusual for most tourists, but definitely worth seeing. There was less food than implied by the advertising, but certainly enough that you wont go hungry. It was very tempting to shop during the tour and unfortunately when it was over most of the places I wanted to go back to were already closed, but besides that the tour guide and store employees were very knowledgeable, receptive to questions, and quite personable. I would recommend this tour as a way of getting to know a few of the different neighborhoods, especially if you're from out of town. | ||||||

| This tour is off the beaten "tourist" track. If you love seeing where locals eat, shop and live this is the tour for you. Walking through three beautiful Chicago north neighborhoods, you will visit unique restaurants and food shops tasting as you go! I was in Chicago for a convention. I did this tour the day before the convention started. I told everyone at the convention about this tour! | ||||||

| I came to Chicago for the first time ever and I was by myself. This tour was one of the highlights of my trip. The tour guide was amazing and very knowledgeable of not only food, but the entire city. I would highly recommend this to people traveling by themselves or for large groups. I would do this again in a heart beat and will recommend it to all of my friends that travel to Chicago. | ||||||

| Taking this tour as our first line of business as tourist in Chicago was the absolute smartest arrangement I could have made for us! We saw and learned so much as well as received great tips from our guide as to other great parts of the city to explore. I can't say enough good about it! What a wonderful adventure! From the minute our very firiendly, knowledgeable tour guide started talking, we knew we were going to love it! She was interesting in that she was born in another country and has lived in numerous US cities but has a true, deep passion for Chicago that shows in her work and she educated us completely! The facts she shared about the history of the city, the architecture of the buildings, the star studded entertainment fun and the neighborhoods and foods was ideal! We were captivated by the tour for the entire 4 hours and didn't want it to end. The walking was at a comforable pace, (we had 16 in our group and the ages ranged from 16, my daughter, to a group of women in their late 60s) and the tastings were spaced leisurely allowing us to enjoy the surroundings between one shop and the next. I have raved about it to everyone that I have talked to about our trip and highly and enthusiastically recommend it to anyone going to Chicago! My 16 year old loved it equally and I have heard here telling her friends how cool it was too! We plan to visit the city again and will quickly sign up for the other tours available since we already enjoyed the tour that took us to the jewish deli, the tea shop, The Fudge Pot, the spice shop, the oil shop, the chocolate/catering shop and that ended with a slice from the outstanding Batistas (I believe that's the right name?!) deep dish pizza shop! I hope you like it as much as we did! | ||||||

| The food stops on on the tour were diverse and top-notch. I discovered many great places I would not have otherwise found during my Chicago visit. I went back and visited several of them to make purchases. Our guide, Arianna, was knowledgable, personable, enthusiastic and energetic. She enhanced each and every food and cultural/architectural stop. I would recommend the tour to anyone visiting Chicago and intend to take the Wicker Park food tour the next time I'm in Chicago. | ||||||

| Having taken the Near North tour last summer, I was glad to see this new tour advertised. I thoroughly enjoyed the Bucktown/Wicker park tour. Our guide lives in the neighborhood and knew much of the history and architecture of the area. She pointed out other restaurants, stores, movie and TV shooting locations, and landmarks along the way. We even stopped to talk to the owner of one of the houses we passed. The food samples were delicious and generous in portion size. Everyone on our tour was full by the last stop. In fact, several took the sandwich from Sultans Market to go. Thank goodness they saved the ice cream until last. iCream was the most unusual stop; everyone watched as the staff mixed and froze the ice cream per each customers order. At the end of the tour, our guide stuck around to answer questions and assist guests with their sightseeing plans. I grew up in the near west suburbs but had rarely gone anywhere in Chicago outside of the Loop and museum campus. These tours are a great way to get away from the usual tourist destinations and see where the locals live, shop, and eat. My only regret is that I won't be back in Chicago for several months to revisit these places. | ||||||

| Pros: Excellent guide. Loved the neighborhood information, the architectural knowledge, food descriptions and history. Great variety of food tastings. Cons: don't feel it was a very moderate walking pace, more of a quick pace. Quite strenuous for my 77 year old Mother who I feel is in pretty good shape. | ||||||

| I was really looking forward to this kind of tour that I set up for myself. I was even more impressed and it exceeded my expectations. The food participants were wonderful and unusual enough to make it interesting. The architectural tour was very interesting and we had a very informative guide. I feel like we were received very well in each of our tastings and the tour moved along at a really good pace. I would recommend that the bathroom at the hot dog site be cleaner than when I experienced it. A lot of people use it at the start of the tour and it is a unisex bathroom which left something to be desired. | ||||||

| One suggestion would be to add an additional 30 minutes to tour so that participants could buy items from proprietors - I took the tour on a weekday, the stores were not busy so this might have worked - personally, I had jam packed days so was unable to go back to the stores and I suspect others were in the same position - being able to purchase right then and there would have made the tour perfect for me | ||||||

| Our guide was great and gave us alot of "local" history too. We both liked most of the food. The portions were normal size, so we were full by the end of the tour! We've been on two other food tours (NYC & Boston) & were only given samples. I would highly recommend this tour!! | ||||||

| There was only three people in our group with our tour guide Jen. She was engaging, knowledgeable, and awesome. She customized our tour and adapted to the many questions we had. We went from 11:00-2:45 and the time flew by. Very cool tour and it is highly recommended if you don't have a lot of time or if you are just entering Chicago. Thanks Jen! | ||||||

| If you'd like to try a selection of different Chicagoan eateries in a short space of time this is trip for you. An authentic Chicago dog for starter sets the scene for the remaining tastings, which are definitely enough for most people's lunch. And it is not all about the food, there is a chance to find out a bit of the history and architecture of the area. Whether you're from the city or out of the country there is something for you to discover on this trip. | ||||||

| It was great to walk around the Gold Coast and Lincoln Park neighborhoods, which I might not have otherwise done. I enjoyed looking at the architecture and learning a little bit of the history of the area. Kate seemed a knowledgeable guide and the shops were interesting, especially the oil shop. The chocolate shop with the toffee was good too, but I could have eaten more! I think there needs to be more food tastings however. The Catering Shop was a bit of a disappointment with just humus and Gouda cheese cubes - something different would have been good. All in all it's worth your time and you'll learn some new things. | ||||||

| We got to visit a lot of 'hidden gems' in neighborhoods that I would have otherwised missed... there is a little bit of everything on the tour - some history, backstory of the neighborhoods / buildings, and of course - learning about / tasting the various foods, oils, spices - everything was so good! It was a really great morning and one of my favorite parts of my trip. As the other reviews said, try to do this tour early on in your trip as there is a good chance, you will want to visit the neighborhoods / restaurants / shops again.... :) | ||||||
