Ton of Fun

This is the perfect tour for locals and tourists. The tastings were delicious and the places are all "non-touristy" but give you a great taste of the neighborhood. I was stuffed by the end. The history of each place and the history of the neighborhood is very interesting as well. I am really excited to go back to the places I discovered on the tour. I highly recommend.

Jesse was so enthusiastic . . right from the start we knew we'd have a great time. What a great idea! One thought, though, is perhaps have the last stop going back towards the beginning of the tour. Food was great! Stops were a pleasant surprise. Spent more than I thought I would on vinegar and oil!! Thank you . . .will definitely try the Buck Town tour.

A fun, interesting afternoon

We all thought it was something fun and different to do on a Saturday afternoon. Jessie was a very fun and passionate tour guide. It was a decent amount of walking but not overly burdensome. Our only gripe would be that there really were no tastings at the spice house and the oil shop. The tour group gets the same thing that anybody off the street would get. My suggestion would be to provide a sample of something made with spices available at the spice shop and for some bread to be provided at the oil shop so we didn't have to dip with our fingers. For the money we paid, I would at least expect that. That being said, the pastrami sandwich, the chocolate and the pizza were all excellent and good portions.

Good food but more walking than advertised

The tour was good and the food offered was delightful. HOWEVER...wear very comfortable shoes and be prepared to walk at a fairly brisk pace. When leaving Chocolate Catering, there is a very long walk interspersed with some discussion of Lincoln Park and the local architecture. Then you are led to a local pizzeria where they serve a slice of deep dish spinach pizza. Not my favorite but my friends enjoyed it.

My husband and I enjoyed the tour so much! All the food was awesome and we learned some interesting facts about Chicago. I loved that the tour let us experience Chicago in an "off the beaten path" way. We got to see and experience things that only a Chicago resident would be able to show us. It wasn't touristy at all and we loved it! We can't wait to come back again and do the other tour. Hopefully even more will be added in the future.

My wife and I recently returned from a weeklong trip to Chicago. Out of the seemingly hundreds of things we did while on our vacation, this was our favorite. Part food tasting, part cultural experience, and all fun. I highly recommend this "un-touristy" tour of three great Chicago neighborhoods.

The Food Planet Tour was great!

The tour was really nice. We took the Old Town/Lincoln Park tour. It took you off the main streets of Chicago and showed you some of the neighborhoods. We really enjoyed Old Town and all the specialty shops. Jen was a great tour guide. The chocolate was great at the Fudge Pot and the tea was good at the TeaGschwendner. They could have paired up some food with the olive oil and spice shops. We did enjoy the sit down lesson about the spice and cinnamon. It was very educational.

Guide was smart and friendly. Group was large at 14 but things went smoothly. Food offerings were varied and ranged from great to good; would certainly want to visit several of the cafes again. Guide provided interesting information on the homes and about the places where we were given samples. A LOT OF FOOD. We took some home for later. Bucktown did not have much for shops; Wicker had a lot of varied if expensive stores. A very enjoyable three hours. Will recommend to friends/family.

We loved this tour! It had a great variety of food & drink stops and the choices were fantastic. We had never been to Chicago so it was great to do this tour as soon as we arrived so we could experience all those hidden gems. The tea & spice stores were so neat that we HAD to go back & buy something to bring home! The coupons and map given to us during the tour were an added bonus. And the Chicago stuffed pizza... WOW. We actually went back a few days later so we could enjoy it again! We also learned lots of fun facts about the local neighbourhoods from our fun & informative tour guide. Overall, I would highly recommend going on this tour! I've told everyone I know about it already.

The Chicago Food Tour was so much fun. We got to see places that we would have never known about and to try wonderful things at each destination. Our guide was very knowledgable about each of the places that we visited as well as the city as a whole. We hope to be able to do one other tours in teh future.

Exploring Chicago's Many Neighborhood Treasures
Fri, Aug 21  12:00 PM iceblue71 Female 30-39 Local Family With Children
I am a life long Chicago resident and attended this tour with my boyfriend and two teenage children. The tour provided a variety of interesting topics: culinary, historic & architectural. Because of the variety the tour was never tiresome and kept everyone’s full attention. Of course the highlight of the tour was all the amazing treats we were able to indulge in. I must admit I was nervous that there would only be small samples served, but to my surprise that was not the case. Instead, most establishments served generous portions, so much so that we went home with leftovers because we were so full. The variety of cuisine covered many of Chicago’s many culinary delights from pizza to ice cream to a traditional Middle Eastern sandwich. We were able to experience recipes from a family that migrated to Chicago from Jordan as well as an award winning pastry chef who attended a local culinary school. Learning about the interesting stories of the owners of these popular establishments was a great contribution to the tour. In between the tastings we had a chance to explore both Wicker Park & Buck Town. While out stretching our legs we were able to learn about the history behind these popular Chicago neighborhoods & about some of the local architecture. The information provided was interesting and gave us a glimpse into how quickly a less desirable area can turn into the hippest place around. All the information provided was an interesting look into the history that made Chicago one of the best cities in the world. Last, but not least, was our tour guide Ben. He was a local Chicagoan who was extremely upbeat and knowledgeable. He provided us with his own local outlook on Chicago as well as answered all of our questions. He was extremely accommodating and positive. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone, local or visitor. For visitors it provides a glimpse of a local Chicago neighborhood that may be overlooked within typical tourist attractions. It’s a laid back & relaxing tour that brings you deep into what Chicago is truly about, diversity blending together. For locals this tour offers a look into why Chicago is such an amazing city to live. I visited places that I wouldn’t normal go to, but will be certain to visit again now that I’ve experienced them first hand. My two children loved the tour so much they both suggested that we move to the area toured, and since that is not currently an option we will be traveling back to these areas again very soon via public trans. From all the great food to the hip little shops to the bustling intersections to the quiet tree lined this tour covered it all.
