Very enjoyable - both the food and the culture
Sun, Oct 28, 07   2:00 PM lsmedberg Female 50-59 Local Group of Friends
This was a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon. The $40 was well worth the money spent (but be warned - driving in from the suburbs and parking in Water Tower parking garage added $26 to the cost of the outing). The tour guide, Nicki, was very knowledgeable about the 3 neighborhoods covered during the 3+ hour walk, and very entertaining. The food tastings were great - a nice variety. It was nice to visit the local "mom and pop" type of shops that need our business to thrive. I would highly recommend this tour.

Tour was great--there should be more food offered

It was a very enjoyable day. Our tour guide, Nikki, did a great informative tour. The shops that we stopped at were impressive, and courteous. However, I feel for the price that was paid, a variety of more food should have been provided at every place we stopped.

I had a great time on the food tour. It was a beautiful day for walking through Chicago and I didn't feel guilty for indulging in all the yummy treats along the way since I knew I was getting some exercise in! I was expecting to taste some local favorites (which I did), but I was surprised at how much I learned about the city's history and architecture. I really enjoyed our tour guide's energy- he was charming, friendly, and kept us entertained all day! This is a great tour for any Chicago visitors who want an inside look at the city's rich culinary background. Natalie Los Angeles, CA

We were really happy with the array of interesting stops, foods and information. We have been on food tours in other cities and felt that this was the best. The pace of the tour was great and at no point did we get restless or anxious to keep moving. It was great!

The tour guide was fantastic as she'd grown up in Chicago, and had come back after travelling so was very enthusiastic about showing off her city. We had a great experience that was far more intimate and laid back than a silly bus tour, and much less touristy than awful big group things. My friend's friend met us there (we are living in three different states and met in Chicago for a weekend), and at the end of the day, after the last stop and noticing the consignment shop next door as well as finishing up the day returning to the tour shops and buying way too much- said "we win guys! we had the best day ever! and even got the best tour guide!" my sentiments exactly.

The tour was excellent. Our guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic and provided a good pace and balance for walking through the city, introducing us to the different food experiences and providing historical background information and architectural insights to help us to really enjoy our tour. I wouldn't change a thing - it was great!

The tour provided a satisfactory overview

The tour was a great way for an individual to get a limited exposure to a number of neighborhoods and the culinary experiences that they provide. On my tour we had people from both sides of the US which was fun but most people were in couples so the whole getting to know you experience was weak. For someone that is passionate about food and had never been to Chicago it was a good opportunity to see what was out there.

I was hungry the whole time and my feet hurt!!!!!!

Our tour guide, Jen, was awesome. She was pleasant and informative. Props to Jen. However, I the structure of the tour was HORRIBLE. It was my understanding that this was a food tour, but we ate very little and walked way too much. We arrived at our meeting spot at 11:15 a.m. as instructed, and were greeted with a piece of chocolate which no one seemed to be interested in ingesting at 11:15 a.m. anyway, but whatever. From there we had a potato cake, some tea, licked cinnamon off our hands (gross), took oil and vinegar shots (equally gross), and had some more chocolate. Let's just take a minute and think of the disgusting combination of substances that were in our stomachs up to this point. By 2:15 that's all we'd had! At which time we ate one piece of pizza, before going on to ANOTHER chocolate stop. Don't get me wrong, I love chocolate, but why didn't you just advertise this as a chocolate tour? We passed DOZENS of amazing restaurants on our way that could have offered appetizers and such of a more substantive nature. I felt extremely jipped that I paid to have someone lead me around on a way too long walking tour while my family and I were going hungry and about to pee our pants most of the time. I am a local and took this as an opportunity to show my family around while they were in town. I have a group of (local) friends who are signed up for this same tour next month. My recommendation to them was to eat a big lunch before the tour and to ditch the tour about two hours before the scheduled end time, as they will have already seen three chocolate shops at that point, and do your feet really need to suffer to see one more?! I will never recommend this tour to someone. I would like a refund.

Not only was our guide great, the food was worth the tour and most of all the information we learned about the city along the way was very interesting.

We enjoyed the insight to the area and the introduction to Chicago foods. You might try and add some additional stops that introduce the group to other Chicago favorite foods.
