These folks are outstanding. The tour had only one slot left,l but after sending an email they made sure my wife could join the same tour. The guide new her stuff and was very outgoing. The stops in the various eateries were well chosen and executed. We loved some so much we went back to buy some exellent items (food). Hans Schoenenberger

We really enjoyed the walking tour and the various tastings. The places we visited were unique with quality products. They are places I probably would not have entered if it were not for the tour. I will be sure to stop by or order online now that I know how good they are. The information shared about the neighborhoods was also very interesting. Our guide did a great job. I highly recommend this tour to visitors and to Chicago natives!

Fantastic Tour! Don't Miss This One!!

I attended this tour by myself. The tour guide was excellent, and the people on the tour were very friendly. I had a wonderful time and met some nice new friends. We went to 8 different establishments that I would never, ever have found on my own. Not only did we learn about the food, but our guide told us about the different homes of interest as we walked by. It was a lot of walking, but this was good as I could digest my food and burn off some of the calories. The pizza restaurant gave us a full serving of delicious stuffed pizza. In most of the establishments we were greeted by the owner. This tour is definitely worth it. If you're hesitating at all, don't!! You will love it. The only improvement would be if we had been able to go to a bakery.

Great way to spend an afternoon in Chicago

I was in Chicago for a long weekend with my husband who was attending a seminar on Friday; therefore, I found myself with a free day. I had been to Chicago multiple times in the past while on business and never had time to "see" the city. I am a fan of Trip Advisors and have used it to plan many trips and thus resorted to reviews of top attractions for Chicago before attending. Excellent, consistent reviews by past customers led me to the Near North Tour. Weather was cool and perfect for walking, our guide, Jennifer, was enthusiastic, informative and fun and the historical information and the food were excellent. I would highly reccomend the tour to others!

Local and tourist alike will enjoy this opportunity to get to know a neighborhood. We met at a hot dog joint, walked together, ate together, talked together and had a very special afternoon. Our guide lived in the neighborhood and made us feel very welcome. Got to know the area like never before. Highly recommend the experience.

Fine, but not remotely worth 'regular' price 40

My guide Kent was terrific(!) and in addition to food tour was a joy to be around..and gave a good explanation of the 'essence' of Chicago, and its neighbourhoods. My complaint is of the food tasting. Granola in a cup on the run, and a tiny cup of potato salad....well just eliminate these...trite, cheap. The other tastings were interesting, though.

I very much enjoyed the tour of food emporiums in this Chicago neighbourhood. As well as a delicious way to find out what the city had to offer, I learned lots about the history, architecture and city planning that makes Chicago what it is today. My favourite stops were the spice and oil/balsamic vinegar shops ... unique and interesting locations.

I found the tour interesting, the guide was fairly knowledgeable and very informative. The food was good, but not what I had expected at all. Perhaps a better description is in order on the web site.

Emily was a great guide!!!! Very informative and had alot of great stories to tell too!! The tour was fun!!! We learned alot of fun facts and we visited some great neighborhoods!! So much so that I will add this to my activities when I have more out of town company! Much better than just wandering around Chicago on our own!! I've lived here since 1991 and never saw some of the sites we visited!!! Loved it !!!

A great introduction to food shops of Chicago

I loved this tour, which I found by googling "balsamic vinegar stores Chicago". The highlights included the unexpected architectural information and the great presentations by the owners/employees in the shops (especially the Fudge Pot.) I was glad that previous reviewers had warned me that the substantial food (pizza) comes at the very end of the tour. I am a big and regular eater, so I had a light lunch before the tour to hold me over, and I was very glad that I had. I returned to both the spice shop and Ethyl's shop for purchases, and can't wait to visit again (totally forgot to use my coupons though!) I also appreciated the supplementary list of restaurants in the Near North and Kate's personal recommendations. I have held onto all the information and will definitely use it when we return to Chicago next April.

I hadn't spent much time in Chicago, so this tour was a great way to see a couple of interesting neighborhoods up close and learn about their history. Our tour guide was very enthusiastic and informative, and the tour group had a very collegial feeling. We sampled food from 6 restaurants, and they were all excellent. The portions varied from "almost a meal" to just a taste. At the end, though, no one left hungry. I liked one of he restaurants so much that I went back there for brunch on the same weekend.

A Culinary Adventure!

I was impressed with all aspects of the tour: the host/tour leader, the places that we explored, the educational aspects, the fun stops, and the weather was also great that day! The leader knew her food, information about Chicago, and she had the charisma and energy need for a great tour leader. I am from Chicago, but there were many things I learned that not all natives might not know. The group was smaller and very friendly so that helped as far as individual attention. I feel enriched as a result of the tour, and I would highly recommend it ! You won't be disappointed and it truly was a culinary adventure!

This was a great way to spend a few hours in a couple neighborhoods in Chicago that I otherwise would not have seen. Emily was an engaging and knowledgeable tour guide. The food places provided a diverse example of what Chicago has to offer both tourists and residents in regard to culture, entertainment, and flavor. I highly recommend this tour.

Great Alternative to the Typical Tourist Route!

What a great way to see Chicago! It's more than a food tour. It's a Chicago experience that is unlike any other I have had - and we visit Chicago frequently! The tastings were great, but I also really enjoyed seeing the neighborhoods and hearing stories about the different places we visited. Rebecca, our tour guide, was full of information. I made sure to wear walking shoes and I brought a bottle of water, both of which came in handy. My favorites were the pizza, the spice shop, the oil shop, and the fudge shop. I even told my husband I'd go on it again another time so he could go. Definitely recommended!
