Hillary Is Great!
Sat, May 14, 11   11:00 AM Tanhun Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Couple on a Date
Learned alot and enjoyed ourselves even though the weather was unusually miserable-cold and rainy near the end of the tour, Hillary was still as enthusiastic at the beginning as at the end of the tour. Would definitely do again.

We enjoyed the history and local factoids provided, good pace and amount of town covered, nice variety and choices of stops, did not care for the plug for tips at the start of the tour.

I have been on many food tours in different cities across the country and this one was by far the best!! Our tour guide Rebecca was amazing. She added in some history about the areas we were walking in, gave us fun facts, and offered her recommendation about where to go to eat, shop and other must do activities. We went on the near north tour and went to some amazing shops. Out of all the places we went to we ended up going back to 3 of them to purchase stuff. The tour was so great and I would recommend it to everyone I know!

Our tour guide Martha was wonderful and the shop owners/staff were all so accommodating and nice. The tour was a great mix of food, shops and history. All 7 stops were wonderful! I have also done the Bucktown tour which I enjoyed and looking forward to going on the china town tour. Thank you Food Planet and Zerve

Great Food Journey through Chicago
Thu, Jul 29, 10   11:00 AM TammyDGibson Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Unspecified
Great experience. Tour guide was very enthusiastic and informative about Chicago and the shops/foods we were entering. Everything very organized. A taste of the culture and shops was an experience I would not have had on my own. Following tour, I went back to a couple of the shops and purchased goods. Everyone very nice - not strenuous at all as far as activity. Our group was small which was great because we all got to get acquainted during our jaunt through parts of the city. I learned alot this tour - the way to prepare/steep teas to get their full flavor; how to mix oils and vinegars on my own to my palate; purchasing spices and keeping them fresh. Just enough food to be full at end of tour - the deserts, pastries and chicago deep dish pizza were wonderful!! Will do again on return trip.

Loved all the unique places we got to visit. From the spice shop to the oil and vinegar shop where got to mix and match different oils and vinegars. Where else do you get to do that? The tea shop was a favorite. Who knew there were so many flavors of tea to try. The stuffed crust pizza was really tasty. I didn't think we would have a lot to eat at each place, but I was stuffed by the end. Everything was tasty. Also our guide Jess did a great job. She was very enthusiastic and informative about the food and the architecture along the route. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone.

Super Fun and Informative!

Our food tour and guide were great! I had done a food tour in NYC a year ago and thought it was so much fun that I looked into it in Chicago and was very pleased they are offered here, too. The tours give you such a different perspective on the city allowing a peek into neighborhoods we would not otherwise venture into. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys learning (and eating!) about the city you're visiting beyond the usual touristy sites. It's a lot of walking, but we figured the calories count for less that way! :-)

Great tour of area along with the food tasting

Carrie was very knowledgeable and we learned a great deal about the area, the houses and the restaurants that we visited. I thought that there was the right amount of spacing between venues and restroom breaks as well. At each stop, the food was ready shortly after we arrived. Pizza and the falafel were our favourites. Although I liked the hot chocolate, it was very rich and would have liked it to have been a little smaller maybe with a bite of a pastry. What we appreciated is that with staying downtown, we saw an area of town that we would not have ventured into otherwise. Easy to get to on the train too!

Unique opportunity to see Chicago's neighborhoods

My mom and I are from Michigan. We attended this event with my friend and her mother who are from Florida. The tour was alot of fun and it gave us an opportunity to see a great deal of Chicago and it's unique neighborhoods in the surrounding area of busy Michigan Avenue. One word of advice though, it takes alot longer than an hour to return to where you begin the tour if you're walking. Also I believe the tour walk covered more than two miles. We're all pretty physically fit and were exhausted by the time we walked back to the starting destination. Our comments regarding the food we sampled: The Jewish Deli: I would rather have tried some of the deli meats over the greasy potatoe pancake. We really enjoyed the tea, pizza and chocolate. (A sample of fudge at the fudge pot would have been preferred over the butter toffee) most people think you will sample fudge with a name like the fudge pot. Our guide Shane was extremely knowledgeable and a real pleasure to spend three hours with. He is enthusiastic and thoroughly enjoys his job as a tour guide.

Lisa was our guide and did a great job. We had plenty to eat throughout the tour and the variety was great. It was a fun way to spend an afternoon with some friends. Afterwards we went to Old Town to a few places we had been before on the Old Town/Lincoln Park food and cultural tour. There we also went to Killians ice cream shop which would be a great place to add to that tour.

Nice experience

This is our 2nd Food Tour in Chicago-- I was a tad disappointed that there were only 6 food stops--- but the overall tour itself was quite interesting & it is always nice to see another "layer" of a city. Also the portions of food were very generous & we then had to "gobble ' them down to hustle on our route--- so maybe do half portions???

Would do again!

We did a similar tour inNYC & loved it( we did have more food stops there) it is sucha fabulous way to see another layer of a big city. It is nice to hear about the history of a neighbourhood & how it has evolved. in this case - we also learned about the products ie tea & spices-- most informative & a delightful way to spend three hours.. We would do another one in a different area on our next visit!! Well done! ES
