Great Tour

The tour was fantastic. Jennifer, the guide, was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. She really made it a fun time. The places we visited were unique and interesting. I especially like the oil and vinegar store, tea shop and pizza place. I would highly recommend this to others.

Great Alternative to the Typical Tourist Route!

What a great way to see Chicago! It's more than a food tour. It's a Chicago experience that is unlike any other I have had - and we visit Chicago frequently! The tastings were great, but I also really enjoyed seeing the neighborhoods and hearing stories about the different places we visited. Rebecca, our tour guide, was full of information. I made sure to wear walking shoes and I brought a bottle of water, both of which came in handy. My favorites were the pizza, the spice shop, the oil shop, and the fudge shop. I even told my husband I'd go on it again another time so he could go. Definitely recommended!

A Foodie's Delight

The walk through Gold Coast, Old Town and Lincoln Park neighborhoods, stopping for tastings at a variety of places, including a deli, a tea shop, a spice shop, a shop selling oils and vinegars, several chocolate places and a stuffed pizza place was terrific! It is an easy walk, and we learned about the neighborhoods as we passed through. At each stop, someone explained what they sold/made and gave us samples. It was a perfect way for a food lover to spend about 3 hours and learn about Chicago's food scene. Our guide, Nicky, was delightful, and our group was very congenial. I'm told they are adding a new tour and I will certainly try that when I'm back in Chicago. I'd highly recommend it to anyone with an interest in food. And, in the course of the tour, we ended up having a nice lunch by the bite.

I liked the tour but there was A LOT of walking involved. I know i was warend about that beforehand, but really there was a lot of walking. Also i felt that we were rushed to finish the slice of pizza we got at the start. The places were were taken to were nice and i enjoyed seeing another part of Chicago.

Worthwhile tour

I enjoyed this tour. I saw parts of the city that I probably would not have otherwise gotten to, and I don't think I would have stopped in some of the places on my own. It moves at a comfortable pace. The guide was flexible, friendly and knowledgable. The highlight of the tour was Bacino's. I asked many people the best places for deep dish/stuffed pizza, and no one said "Bacino's" -- what an oversight! The stuffed pizza at Bacino's was worth the whole tour. I had it again the next day.

Great but needs tweaking

I really enjoyed your tour as it was a way to personalize Chicago for me. I went by myself and I am in the food business so I really liked visiting different places, learning, having a cool experience around food plus be with a group. I don't mind traveling alone but I don't like going to a restaurant alone so this was great way to sample things, walk around, and learn about the city at the same time. Few things: the tea place was a nice surprise...it didn't seem like much from the outside but the inside and the talk was great...however, the gal that gave the talk could have been more professional looking. She had a t-shirt on (all rumpled) that had some kind of logo and style a young teenager would wear. She was in her mid-twenties, her hair was unkempt, I think she had a lip ring or brow ring piercing...in short her outward presentation was distracting and frankly "looked dirty" -- I will say she spoke very well which in some ways added to the distraction because her "look" didn't match the well spoken, educated, informative talk. The other fella in the shop had long hair but he had a nice crisp green long sleeve shirt on (I'm fond of long sleeve shirts on anyone in retail and food service) . The oil and vinegar shop was wonderful -- no one besides Emily spoke -- if someone can, I think each shop should step up and say a little something. The most frustrating thing was not having time to buy anything! As a shop owner I understand they would like to have folks come back but in my case, I had such a tight schedule - it just wasn't possible. If the shops could have had some kind of marketing thing where they would have a set of stuff to go it would have been perfect or how about having an order sheet - have the tour guide place the orders while we are having pizza and each shop bring the order to the last stop. I know I could order things but it seemed vague and not a great value to do so not to mention the hassle of traveling with it. Here's something -- when I was on the Alaskan Railroad on a tour...their gift shop on the train had a deal where no matter how much you bought or how little it was a $5 flat rate to send anything anywhere. I don't know how they worked that deal with whom but was a great selling point. Nearly everyone bought something and had it shipped home.

Great Way to Start Your Trip to Chicago!

I thoroughly enjoyed this tour and highly recommend it to anyone at the beginning of your trip in Chicago. Our tour guide, Kent, was especially helpful and knowledgeable about details of this great city. I thought the amount of food provided was adequate. I ate breakfast around 9 am and was not hungry after the tour ended around 2:30 pm. Lots of walking, but with 2 rest stops I was fine. By the last stop I was ready for a rest, so the timing was just right. If I could change anything, I would suggest one less chocolate vendor. There were 3 and it would have been nice to have something else. It was a great way to get a feel for the city, it's history and of course, the food.!

Great way to get a 'taste' of Chicago

As I was only in Chicago for the weekwnd and it was my first visit to Chicago, I wanted to get a good feel for the city. I spent the Saturday at Millenium Park, the Art Institute and shopping on State Street (only window shopping on Michigan Avenue!). For th Sunday I wanted to do a tour but something that would get me into the heart of Chicago rather than just 'sights'. This tour just fit the bill. Many thanks.

My daughter is at school at du paul. So over the last 2 years we have explored a lot in the neighborhood. We had been to 7 out of the 8 places on the tour. It would be a good idea to name the places on the tour so one could decide if it was worth while. I also thinks a late afternoon tour with wine might be fun. Glad to hear you are doing the tour in different neighborhoods

Be prepared to tip

The food tour was very interesting and tasty. An oil and vinegar tasting place was especially great, but all of the places were worth while. The Chicago pizza was the best pizza I've tasted anywhere in the world, no exageration. The tour guide makes it clear at the beginning that tips are appropriate if we think she did a good job. At the end this is reinforced as she tells people she is going to shake everyone's hand. Money thus changes hands easily. This is not necessary bad; I was going to tip anyway. It was just an unusual way of collecting them in my experience.

Relaxing day on the north shore

I went by myself while my daughter was away at camp and it was nice as I met a few ladies from different parts of the U.S. So don't be worried to attend on your own. Also, Rebecca our guide was proud to show us her neighborhood and surrounding area's. She also gave us great local restaurant reviews. I live in the suburbs and always get stuck at the same touristy places that all the out of towners end up at so this tour was nice as it gets you off that beaten path and on to where the locals of Chicago go. I had such a relaxing day and the walking was enjoyable. We tried interesting items and I definitely learned new things about tea, olive oils, spices and much more. Great day out with or without your friends!

I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Chicago - it blends a great mix of foods with history and cultural information about the city. However, I think the people who would like it most would be people who are foodies - and I mean that in the very best way.
