Great Way to Spend Time in Chicago
Tue, Sep 8  11:30 AM GloriaKamins Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
This was a great tour of the Wicker Park/Bucktown area. It was very informative and Kent Seaver was very personable, interesting, and knowledgeable of the area and the places we visited. The food was terrific and definitely enough to not only keep you going during the tour but enough to fill you for the day. It was just the right combination of walking and sitting so as not to exhaust anyone. I have already recommended it to friends who I know visit Chicago occasionally. We are from Florida but my daughter lives in Chicago and I have told her about it as well. Great tour and great tour guide!

My wife and I had a great time on the food tour. The guide was delightful. The 7 food stops were excellent choices - places that we would not otherwise have discovered. Highly recommended.

This was a great activity -- so much fun and so informative. We discovered some great places to dine and to shop for food in Chicago, and we learned a lot about various things. Our two favorite stops on the trip were the olive oil shop (incredible!! Be sure to try the 18-yr-old balsamic vinegar) and the spice shop (fabulous blends). We can't wait to take the other food tour.

Overall, I thought this was a great tour

We went on a Sunday, which turned out to be a great time because there wasn't a lot of traffic or other shoppers in the places we were visiting. Jennifer was our tour guide and she was AWESOME!! I highly recommend her. Very upbeat, positive, and genuinely enjoyed her job, which is refreshing. I liked all the places we visited. The deli sandwich was delicious, the tea was good and I enjoyed learning about all of the spices and oils. The toffee we had at the Fudge Pot was a definite highlight. We also enjoyed the pizza at the end. Our walks through the different neighborhoods was very interesting because we probably wouldn't have known about those neighborhoods had we not gone on the tour. My only recommendation would be to take out the catering-chocolate part of the tour. It was extremely crowded in there and the person working behind the counter was not friendly (actually had a scowl on his face). It would be nice if some of these places had a set up where we could "sit and eat" like at the pizza place at the end. All in all, very fun and informative. Jennifer was a great tour guide and we learned a lot!!

Great tour guide on Sat 09/5/2009

This was recommended by trip advisor and as always was a home run. The tour guide was very informative and engaging. You won't gain weight on this tour because there is a lot of walking. You will not get full on the tour, the food is more like tastings. And a lot of the tour was to a spice shop and an oil shop with no food at all. But there were great products and very unique items I had never seen before. So there are plenty of shopping opportunities. The tour is a great way to visit a side of Chicago many visitors rarely get to see(Gold Coast). I highly recommend it for visitors and locals alike. Also, the folks on the tour were great. We had some funny folks that kept me laughing. Don't miss on seeing the 25 million dollar house near Oz park. The house is so big it looks like a school. By the way there is a Mexican restaurant that is not a part of the tour, but the food looks great, they make the guacamole' fresh at your table. Plan on eating there!

Our Chicago Near North End tour was one of the highlights of our 2009 Labor Day weekend to Chicago. Nicki, our guide, was informative and pleasant; she knew the area and paced the walking tour, which was made up of people from ages 15-77, for everyone involved. Each stop was better than the last and each tasting was marvelous. Obviously, the shopkeepers and the tour company have built solid relationships because the businesses on the tour take time for their guests and freely answer questions and share their experiences. I highly recommend this tour for anyone who enjoys walking, informative, out-of-the-way locales and tasty food choices.

Our tour leader was Jess. She was very knowledgable and friendly. Had plenty of enthusiasm and was able to remember most of the people in the group. Had lots of food and learned about the Bucktown/Wicker Park area. Planning to return there this weekend for the art festival. Hopefully will be able to go on the North food tour this Sunday. Beautiful weather, fun group, good food - I would recommend this tour to anyone!! Loved it.

Nicky (sp?) was our guide. She was very nice, knowledgable and entertaining. She kept everyone on schedule. We enjoyed the tour very much and would recommend it to others. We will definitely revisit some of the spots to do some more shopping. I have lived in the Chicago area for 52 years and it was the best time I have ever had in Chicago!

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Ben, our guide was upbeat, enthusiastic and extremely well informed. The food tasting was terrific and the sights were wonderful. The atmosphere was fun and laid back. We have decided to seek out similar tours in every city we visit from now on.

They were four couples in our group. Everyone enjoyed the walking tour not only did we taste some delicous foods we learned many things about teas, spices, olive oil and, balsamic vinegar that was new and informative to all of us. The day started with a tasty sandwich and ended with the best Chicago pizza we had while in town. As well, we learned so much about Chicago to include history, events, and historical buildings and places that we probably would not have seen if not for the tour. Would recommend the tour, and will probably now do other tours while in large cities.

My husband and I took this tour when we found ourselves back in Chicago. Our family had taken the Near North tour back in June and really loved it. The Bucktown/Wicker Park tour did not disappoint!!! Our tour guide Kent was awesome!! He was very knowledgeable, interesting, and fun. This is not a section of Chicago that we would have ventured into on our own (because there are no "headline" attractions). Kent was full of stories, information, and tidbits that we never would have found in any tour book! It is very obvious that he loves this city and loves to show it to people. The stops along the way were very varied and interesting. Never have we seen or tasted ice cream made with liquid nitrogen---with so MANY different combinations of flavors as well. Our favorite stop was at Hot Chocolate for the frozen hot chocolate---to die for!! We even returned a few nights later for pizza and beer at the local pizzeria and brewpub. Part of the fun was just watching all of the people gathered at such a popular local hangout. I would recommend this tour to anyone who enjoys food and wants to hear all about Chicago from a local who loves his city!!!
