saw it on Internet - thought - why not? :-)

We have never done anything like this before but it looked fun - and it was. It was a very hot day (late July) but 3 and a half hours later we were delighted we had done it. Emily our guide, was GREAT! She made it cheerful and interesting and she got the group talking to each other a bit - no mean feat! All were Americans except 2 Spanish, 2 Canadians and us two Kiwis from New Zealand. We could have taken even more information about the areas we walked through - nationalities living there, architecture, history, etc. There were a few assumptions made that we knew our American history (we had no idea why there had been riots in Chicago in the 70's? 80's? - we asked other walkers and not all the Americans were that sure of details either although the Canadian seemed to know a bit about it!!) However, if there are not a lot of foreigners then I can understand why assumptions are made. We could have spent longer on some places hearing exactly how they prepare spices, balsamic vinegar etc but the time was limited we know! The amount of food and tasting was great. Being Kiwis we seem to have smaller appetites than those from the US of A so we even had to ask for a 'doggie bag' at the pizza place :-) We felt it was well thought out and planned - I guess I would have swapped one chocolate place less for some other speciality but I don't know what there is that could be covered! We went home to relatives living in Chicago, who have never heard of it - and we raved and showed them our sheets of information etc and encouraged them to go! We were so pleased we did something like this and it may well be that we will do another one in some new place we go to in the future! If we returned to Chicago for a third time (as we would love to do) I would definitely go back to some of the shops to get a few things! We left Chicago the next day - we love the city and this walk was a great addition to our appreciation of it! Thank you. We are hoping that our exchange of emails with several other walkers will result in them getting in touch with us when they come to New Zealand!

Loved this tasty tour of Chicago -- I will recommend it to everyone I know who plans to visit the city. I think the fact that most of my tour was made up of locals is a testament to the quality and word-of-mouth popularity of the tour. Fabulous!

Our tour was very informative in giving us information on the locations we visited as well as the neighborhoods we walked through. I especially enjoyed discovering the different teas, spices at the locations and the pizza place was absolutely delicious. I will definitely do this tour again!

I Had A Great Time
Wed, Jul 23, 08   11:00 AM MistySierra Female Unspecified Domestic Tourist(s) Individual
I really had a great time. We did a lot of walking but it wasn't too much and the pace was good. I didn't feel rushed and had plenty of time to look at sights and look around the stores. The only minor thing that was a little bit of an issue is that I was planning on the tour only being from 11 - 2 and we ran 30 minutes past 2. I had another engagement at 3, and was worried that I wouldn't make it. That said, I wouldn't change anything about the tour it was definitely worth it. Next time I will plan on a bigger gap of time between activities.

I have visited Chicago many times but this tour really made it special. The area we traveled and the stores visited, were the best. I know when we come back I will seek out these stores. The guide was excellent and knowledgeable. I would recommend this to anyone.

It's a Chicago Must!

I was traveling to Chicago on business and spent a few days downtown doing what any tourist visiting Chicago for the first time would do; Millennium Park, John Hancock Observatory, Museums, etc. There were a few tours (i.e. the Architectural Boat Tour) I would have liked to have taken but my time ran out. I did however book Chicago Food Planet's food tour. It was AMAZING! The places we stopped were interesting, neighborhoods we walked through were great and it more than tickled my taste buds! Upon returning to my office in Atlanta, I recommended it as a "Must See" for anyone going up. Another interesting note, 75% of the attendees were Chicago natives. They seemed to be enjoying themselves as well! For anyone who loves to cook or just want's to see a local's perspective of Chicago, this food tour hits the mark!

Nikki was our tour guide & she was great! We visited numerous culinary jewels & got an amazing look at the numerous beautiful home styles. The tastings & info sessions were great! I would highly recommend this tour & try to do it before your last day so you have time to come back & shop & eat at the wonderful locations!.. Bravo!!!

I really enjoyed this tour. They give you some history and architecture on the tour. Everything I sampled was excellent. However, you will not be given any time to buy items at the shops where you stop. I believe that was the only drawback. I understand the time constraint, but I would have been happy extending the tour by an hour or two so I could buy some items. Be prepared to walk!

A great way to explore Chicago's neighborhoods

If you are like me, and normally do not enjoy tours, I highly recommend this one. The groups are small and the tour guides are personable and engaging. Walking around, I did not feel like a tourist, only a local walking with a group of friends. All the samples offered were fantastic. Make sure you bring an empty stomach, the portion sizes are huge and a great value for what you pay.

This was a wonderful tour of many places I never would have known were there, and boy would I be missing out. The tour guide was engaging, enthusiastic, and a pleasure to be around - a true food lover, and very imformative too! I really enjoyed the unique stops and walking through the city learning about some of the buildings we passed along the way. A unique highlight was an unexpected invitation to see the inside of a random passer-by's home in one of those splendidly made buildings we had been talking about. I highly recommend this tour, it is well worth the money and the time.

Food, architecture and educational!
Fri, Jun 27, 08   11:00 AM Irun26 Female 20-29 Domestic Tourist(s) Individual
Not only do you walk by a number of places to try different foods and learn about them including oils, vinegars, spices, pizza, and such, but go by a number of neighborhoods with old architecture including the originalPlayboy mansion and learn about many of today's homes. I enjoyed myself much more than I had anticipated and would highly recommend it to anyone. The amount of people is small enough to be intimate but not too small making one feel uncomfortable. For the price it is well worth the dollar.

Thoroughly enjoyable.

This tour was a pleasant surprise, and I would not hesitate to repeat it with others. We visited some truly unique shops; some I might otherwise never have known were there. The pace was perfect, the tastings were delicious, and the descriptions of local architecture and history added a nice touch that completed the experience. Local shop owners were most welcoming, and more than one talked about their merchandise in enough detail that I was able to gain quite a bit of education.
