More food please...

I thought this was a nice variation from your typical walking tours and would recommend it to anyone who is interested in seeing Chicago by foot (but only in great weather). It's also a good way to see the local restaurants even if they weren't directly involved with the tour. My only suggestions would be to have a smaller group and have more food tastings. There are only 8 tastings, 2 of them I don't necessarily consider food. They were the spice and vinger / oil tastings. While they were both an interesting and delicious experience, I thought perhaps having the condiments served with food rather than by itself would be a better experience. Also I would like to see one chocolate tasting rather than two. Also, I would suggest anyone to eat a meal prior to going. Although the website says people are generally full from the food tasting, the "real" food didn't happen until towards the end of the tour. My girlfriend and I had only a small breakfast thinking that we would leave room for the food tasting, but we found ourselves really hungry from all the walking. By the time the real food came (one slice of pizza), we were both already having hunger cramps. That said, I still had a good time. I learned a few things about Chicago and I got to taste some delicious food at the same time. Just needs more of it.

Food Tour Leaves Me Hungery

A short summary of the food tour: The tour lasted approximately three and a half hours and we walked over two miles. The guide Emily was excellent and provided information about the areas visited. The food you receive is: a potatoe pancake, a glass of iced tea, several pieces of chocolate, a couple pieces of cheese, and a piece of pizza. The tour also ends quite a way from where it started which requires another half hour getting back. After visiting Chicago many times my advice would be to rent a bike and have a really nice upscale lunch. You would still have money left over for shopping. I did not feel the tour was worth the price charged.

Wonderful way to visit neighborhoods

The food and beverage tastings were great, but the real value is in the visits to the different neighborhoods. Feel like we got a great feel for Chicago by walking through different areas. Our guide, Nikki, was wonderful. In addition to knowing a lot about the food and beverages we sampled, she knew a lot of the history and architecture of the areas we toured. Lots of walking, but well worth it. We ended up going back to some of the places we visited to shop later in the day.

We LOVED this walking/tasting tour of Old Chicago!

We go to Chicago each year with another couple for the Wright-Walk (Frank Lloyd Wright) weekend. We also like to program enjoyable side trips. When we checked your 3-hour walk around Old Chicago (and its borders), we thought the tasting/cultural tour would be fun. We LOVED it, in large part because Jennifer, our tour leader was delightful: knowlegeable, full of life and a really pleasant person! Each stop, whether at a Jewish Deli, a chocolate maker---or a balsamic vinegar/olive oil importer's shop was informative and a tasty treat! We will make several purchases from home (NY) on the shops' internet sites. We enjoyed this tour so much that we are going to check out other offerings, both where we live and other parts of the USA which we visit during the year. Thanks you people for providing us with such a good time! Warm regards, Bob Port Washington, NY

Very informational with lots of surprises

the stops were wonderful....group leader (Emily) was excellent. Good intereaction between group members. The stops along the way were very interesting. I would do another tour in a heart beat. Tour indicated that there would be a focus on food...our group kind of expected to sample signature items from restaurants...ie famous onion ring recipe of buffalo wings etc. Only real food was a potatoe pancake and Heart Healthy pizza slice....the rest would be classified as taste offerings. I definitely left hungry and would have eaten breakfast prior to the tour if food was not emphasized. When asked which tour I wanted to go on , there really wasn't enough information to make an informed decision. May want to list the key stops in each neighborhood to allow potential guests to better match their interests. Thanks for a very good look at a side of Chicago that I would not have visited.

Great idea, lose one of the chocolate shops.

My wife and I really enjoyed the tour. Our tour guide was personable, knowledgeable & enthusiastic. The shops were unique, but one of the chocolate shops could be eliminated. You should replace it with another shop where the group can get something of substance to eat, like the patato pancake & the pizza. People do expect a progressive eating experience and another type of shop with something of substance to eat would accomplish this. I have recommended the tour to several friends and will continue to do so. Very enjoyable day. Thanks.

The food tour is definitely well worth the price. No only do you get a chance to taste great food, but a cultural tour is included!

a great tour, it tells a lot in a short time.

we didn't have of time to see every thing in chicago, so that tour came as the best thing to see alot in the city in a very short time, the tour was great, we wouldn't pay attention for most of those details if we were walking by it. but once they tell you about you really enjoy every minute of that trip. food was not much, we expected to eat more since they tell you that you going to taste a lot so we didn't eat breakfast that day, but if i would go again, i'll have breakfast at the morning. the best activity was the pizza place, it's amazing but we realized after the trip was over that the best part was the walking by all these nice places. to enjoy it the most, we recommend to go on the tour on you first day there and after that go all over the city by your selves so you can stop by those places and enjoy the city the most. over all it's a five star activity if you don't expect to eat a lot

Food Tour Review

The tour was actually more fun than we had anticipated! We really enjoyed touring some of Chicago and eating some food along the way. Thought the tour time was about right; maybe a little long. Would only recommend not having as many chocolate stops. By the time we got to the last stop (Ethel's), chocolate really wasn't what we wanted. We sensed that from the group as well. Overall, we truly enjoyed the tour and really like our guide. She did a great job!

We had a GREAT tour with a very nice young person. It was an informative, friendly tour with a with a 'lovely' tour guide. The 'tastings' were very good. We gave the tour information to our hotel people, [Renaissance Hotel] who did not know of this walking tour. THANKS Richard Jarzobski

Nice Way to Get Your Bearings in Chicago
Mon, Apr 21, 08   11:00 AM CFG1159 Male 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Individual
I really enjoyed this tour. I actually learned a lot while enjoying some tasty samplings of a variety of foods and walking about some of the Chicago neighborhoods. It was a great way to get my bearings on my second day in the City. If you have a huge appetite, you may not be totally satisfied with the food provided, after all it is a tasting/sampling tour. However, we were given enough tasty delights were a normal appetite would be satisfied ... or at least held until dinner. The tour guide, Tad, was enthusiastic about what he was showing us and the constant smile on his face was refreshing. It showed he was enjoying showing us about as well. If you, the reader, are contemplating this tour, I highly recommend it. You will also get some really nice ideas about where to come back for nice dinners and lunches. Enjoy!!!!

We enjoyed the insight to the area and the introduction to Chicago foods. You might try and add some additional stops that introduce the group to other Chicago favorite foods.
