Learned about a great Chicago neighborhood
Sat, Oct 8, 11   1:00 PM wknickerson Male 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
We wanted to learn more about Chicago besides all the downtown attractions. The Wicker Park/Buck Town walking food tasting provided just that. Our guide was enthusiastic and very knowledgeable about the local architecture and led us to taste wonderful local cuisine. I highly recommend this tour.

My husband and I were given this tour as a gift from our son. We all were in Chicago for the Marathon. We had a wonderful guide who helped us learn about the food stops of the Near North tour. She also knew a bit about the neighborhoods and houses we passed, so every step of our tour was interesting and informative. When we are next in Chicago we hope to take Food Planet's Chinatown Tour. A fun a afternoon.

A Great Experience!

My husband and I, along with our son, who is a student at DePaul in Chicago, had the opportunity to experience the Chinatown food tour this week. I had somehow thought the time for our tour was 11:30 when it was actually scheduled for 10:30. THANK GOODNESS they had scheduled a second tour that day that was scheduled for 11:30!! Our guides were so gracious in accommodating us on the 11:30 tour and we were so glad they did. I have enjoyed "American" Chinese food but it was so interesting and fun to experience authentic Chinese food, and delicious, too. Our guides were so informative and fun and we learned so much!! This was the fourth time we have gone on the tasting tours and its hard for me to say which one was my favorite because they have all been great, but my husband said that this one was his favorite. A surprise on this tour was seeing a Buddist temple- The whole tour was so enjoyable and I'm looking forward to returning to Chinatown and trying some other things at the restaurants we visited. The list of other great places to eat is intriguing, too. If you enjoy experiencing new tastes and would like to learn more about the Chinese culture and history, this is something you won't want to miss.

The tour was everything we had hoped and more. The guide made the tour fun, interesting and the choice of restaurants was outstanding. It was an afternoon well spent. I recommend that you don't have dinner planned on the day of the tour!!

The food, walk, history, tour guide - everything was fantastic. I have told everyone I know how much we enjoyed doing this and I have recommended to everyone in or going to Chicago to try this out. It was one of the coolest activities that we have done while visiting Chicago. Loved it!

Loved the history. Loved the food, although the pizza was not as good as Dewey's Pizza in Cincinnati! I didn't like hot dogs until I went to George's.

A super tour for the money.

The tour leader, Nikki, was excellent...very personable and knowledgeable, not only about the food stops, but also the neighborhood history, which I found most interesting. I would most certainly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the City of Chicago. The variety of food stops was an excellent choice; something to attract different pallets. Either this particular tour or one of the other food tours will be on my "must do" list during my next Chicago visit.

We like to walk and we like to eat so this was a great tour for us. Our guide was awesome. She knew so much about Chicago, so we came home with some great trivia to wow our friends with. We have nothing negative to say. It was a great day and I say, "Go! You won't be disappointed or hungry."

"Near North Food Tour"
Fri, Sep 30, 11   11:00 AM LouiseRausa Female 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Couple on a Date
I live out of state and this was the second time I've taken this tour while in Chicago, each time with a different travel partner and each time with a different tour guide. The places the tour went to were well chosen and offered a good variety -- an authentic deli, chocolate making store, tea shop, spice store, gourmet oil and vinegars, etc. -- to give an overview of food in that particular neighborhood. I'm going to make a comparison here between tour guides as I feel to a large extent that they can often "make or break" the way one perceives his/her experience. Both were pleasant, high energy and well informed about the places we went to and the culture of the neighborhoods. The first one was more low key and had better time management skills, which I appreciated. The second one, in a well intended attempt to encourage "having a good time" and bonding among group members, tended to direct and sometimes infantilize them... very annoying. Another comparison of the two guides: The last stop of the tour is to have a generous slice of award winning, spinach filled, deep dish pizza. The first guide thought to call ahead to inform them of when we would be there. When we arrived, this incredible pizza was just coming out of the oven. It was hot, bubbly and oozing with melted cheese. The second guide was "off by about ten minutes" and either neglected to call or misjudged time. The pizza in this instance was warm, but not hot, and a bit congealed. Great for leftovers, but not for trying to make a positive impression on visitors. In all, this tour was well worth attending, covered a lot of territory and gave what I feel is an accurate representation of Chicago food and culture. You certainly did not go away hungry!

The selection of foodie places was excellent.

This tour gave us an opportunity to see an area of Chicago that we would not have seen as regular downtown tourists. The food choices were really good and again allowed us to taste things that we would never have tasted.....eg the hot dog and the ice cream. Even tho it rained a good part of the tour the cultural/architectural part was most interesting.
