Great tour of area along with the food tasting

Carrie was very knowledgeable and we learned a great deal about the area, the houses and the restaurants that we visited. I thought that there was the right amount of spacing between venues and restroom breaks as well. At each stop, the food was ready shortly after we arrived. Pizza and the falafel were our favourites. Although I liked the hot chocolate, it was very rich and would have liked it to have been a little smaller maybe with a bite of a pastry. What we appreciated is that with staying downtown, we saw an area of town that we would not have ventured into otherwise. Easy to get to on the train too!

Unique opportunity to see Chicago's neighborhoods

My mom and I are from Michigan. We attended this event with my friend and her mother who are from Florida. The tour was alot of fun and it gave us an opportunity to see a great deal of Chicago and it's unique neighborhoods in the surrounding area of busy Michigan Avenue. One word of advice though, it takes alot longer than an hour to return to where you begin the tour if you're walking. Also I believe the tour walk covered more than two miles. We're all pretty physically fit and were exhausted by the time we walked back to the starting destination. Our comments regarding the food we sampled: The Jewish Deli: I would rather have tried some of the deli meats over the greasy potatoe pancake. We really enjoyed the tea, pizza and chocolate. (A sample of fudge at the fudge pot would have been preferred over the butter toffee) most people think you will sample fudge with a name like the fudge pot. Our guide Shane was extremely knowledgeable and a real pleasure to spend three hours with. He is enthusiastic and thoroughly enjoys his job as a tour guide.

Fun, Interesting, and great food

Lisa was our guide and did a great job. We had plenty to eat throughout the tour and the variety was great. It was a fun way to spend an afternoon with some friends. Afterwards we went to Old Town to a few places we had been before on the Old Town/Lincoln Park food and cultural tour. There we also went to Killians ice cream shop which would be a great place to add to that tour.

Nice experience

This is our 2nd Food Tour in Chicago-- I was a tad disappointed that there were only 6 food stops--- but the overall tour itself was quite interesting & it is always nice to see another "layer" of a city. Also the portions of food were very generous & we then had to "gobble ' them down to hustle on our route--- so maybe do half portions???

We did a similar tour inNYC & loved it( we did have more food stops there) it is sucha fabulous way to see another layer of a big city. It is nice to hear about the history of a neighbourhood & how it has evolved. in this case - we also learned about the products ie tea & spices-- most informative & a delightful way to spend three hours.. We would do another one in a different area on our next visit!! Well done! ES

Can't top the original tour, but very good!

My husband I did the original tour last year and loved it. We decided to try the Bucktown/Wicker Park tour this year. Our tour guide, Kent, was great. The iced chocolate drink from Hot Chocolate was amazing, and the Icream was very good. We liked our stop at Sultan's so much we ate there twice more! We enjoyed seeing some of the great architecture, too. And yet, what we enjoyed the most was visiting a few of the places we went on last year's tour.

This was a great tour. My husband and I have been to Chicago many times, but he states "This is the best thing to do in Chicago." Our nephew was with us and actually tried new things - and more importanlty like them. Kate is a wonderful tour guide!

Beats Michigan Ave crowds!

I've been on numerous bus trips to Chicago and have always done the Michigan Ave thing. This was so much more enjoyable and informative. I loved walking through the neighborhoods and learning the history of the buildings and I finally know where Second City is. All of the tasting stops were interesting but the Old Town Oil and Tea Gschwendner were my favorites. There's something for everyone, it's just a nice way to see other neighborhoods of Chicago. Can't wait to go on the Bucktown/Wicker Park tour on my next visit.

The food tour was a wonderful way to experience some of the culture, history, and treats of Chicago. Our guide, Nicky, was informative and entertaining and the stops we made along the tour provided a unique tasting experience. Make sure to wear comfortable walking shoes.

Enjoyed the food tour, sampling the tastings at the different shop locations along the way. The tour offered a variety of different tastings in each of the neighborhoods. Our guide was informative sharing detailed information about each shop we visited and the three neighborhoods as we walked through Gold Coast, Old Town and Lincoln Park. The only caution would be that the distance between the next to the last stop and the final stop was 1.2 miles. As this is a walking food tour, be aware of that distance at the end when you are a little tired. However, if you are prepared to walk, it is worth your time and you will enjoy this tour.

Our Annual Sister-Bonding Trip
Fri, May 17, 13   11:30 AM sylviastout Female 70+ Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
Every year my sisters and I go to a different city. If possible, we do a Foody Tour. The weather for our entire time in Chicago was great OTHER than the day of the tour. It was windy and cold. However Martha, our tour guide, kept everyone moving right along so we spent the minimum time outside. Her oral history of the area and food for Chicago's Near North Side was outstanding. We visited a good variety of locations, had more than enough to eat, and had a wonderful time. My sister's and I went back to several of the locations to make purchases using the discounts provided. I highly recommend this tour and rate it tied for 1st place.
