This Past Week-End's Walking Food Tour
Sun, May 25, 08   1:00 PM lesueuj Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Other
Overall this walking tour was very good--informative, entertaining, and interesting. Our speaker/guide--Shane--really knew his subject matter and was able to answer most of our questions. The walking tour is spread out pretty well so there are breaks between walking to stop in the stores being visited on the tour. I can understand why it was impractical to stay along enough at each venue to do some actual shopping but this would be a great addition to the tour as many of us on the tour were unable to make return trips to the stores later the same day or the next day, etc. based on being in Chicago from out of town.

Venues visited interesting with plenty of samples

The meeting point was convenitent but the tour leader (also a fitness instructor) conducted the tour at such a brisk walking pace it felt like being route marched through the city, although the day was cold her desire to sprint through the streets meant the group sturggled, indeed two people left the tour such was the frantic pace. The stops were however unhurried and interesting although as shopping on the tour is not allowed it meant that if one wanted to make a purchase it had to be on a return visit or online. The leader seemed oblivous to the needs of the individiuals inthe group although her commentary was interesting. It would be better to either plan the tour aournd shops closer to each other (at one point it was over a twenty minute walk to the next stop) or have fewer stops so the walking pace is not so frantic. I have taken a similar but much better tour in San Francisco wear at some points the group joined the hop on hop off bus tour which was much more enjoyable. Only one for the very fit .

I really enjoyed the tour. The tour guides are fun and hip and very friendly. The tour goes through downtown the way a local would. I have already raved to my friends and family that the tour was the best part of my vacation. I loved the different stores and the houses. I have already ordered from two of the stores. I definatly suggest going on the tour at the begining of your trip so you can see Chicago in a calm and relaxed environment.

Stores chosen were informative was hoping for the artisan bakery . A true foodie would be disappointed with general type info, but still fun and helped find the little shops you would never find. Thanks Food planet. Keep looking for the new neighborhood to tour.

Unique tour for all walks of life.

I booked this tour because it was something I knew I would like. Most of the folks that went in our group (of 6) didn't do as much cooking or baking as I did so, I wasn't sure if they would enjoy it as much as. As it turned out we spend all of our day retracing our steps going back to stores we saw or eating at recommended restaurants during the rest of our stay in Chicago. Our entire group got into the history and food as much, if not more than I did. Our tour guide was friendly and kept us off the beaten path. It was the best part of our time in Chicago. Do note though they say for all fitness types, but the tour was not for those who can't stand for at least 3 hours or walk at a brisk pace for that period of time.

The weather did not completely cooperate, but the tour was great. I would highly recommend it. By walking you see many parts of Chicage you would otherwise miss. The planned stops are all unique stores and independently owned. Returned to many of the stores for personal purchases as well as great gifts.

I had a great time on the tour. My guide was very knowledgable and friendly too! I enjoyed seeing a few neighborhoods I would not have probably ventured to on my own given my time constraints. I was in Chicago for business purposes and only for 3 days.

Great Way to see Chicago!

This walk tour is just a great way to walk through the streets and alleys of Chicago. We get to walk streets I would not have found, taste food that I would not have tasted and hear stories I would not have otherwise heard. The pace of the tour was great - no rushing at all. I have lots of time to take photos too. Nicky our tour guide was all-knowledgeable and patient. She is very friendly. She knows her stuff - including the spice and teas. Overall, a very fun walk and my daughter Rosalyn mentioned that this is the the highlight of our week long in your beautiful city. Thank you.

This tour was wonderful. We had a small group -- only seven on the tour -- and our guide was great. She was informative and fun. Most of the group were in their 20's with a 50/50 mix of Chicagoans and visitors. The highlights for everyone were the specialty olive oil and balsamic vinegar shop and the spice shop. The chocolates and pizza were good too.

We had a most enjoyable experience walking around so many lovely neighborhoods and enjoying the delicious foods. Our guide Jennifer was delightful and pointed out many architecural sights and explained the various neighborhoods and their specialized foods. We never could have done this tour by ourselves. Definitely worth the the price.

Our tour was very relaxing, lots of time to chat as we walked, everyone enjoyed it. I went back to the Spice and Tea and Oil , and Ethels stores and purchased several hundred dollars in merchandise. The architectual points were really interesting and I felt I received an orientation to the neighborhoods, of gold coast, and old town that I would never have achieved walking alone even if I found the shops. The walking part was great too.
