Anyone with an interest in architecture and food will love this tour. You take a leisurely walk around some of Chicago's most beautiful neighborhoods and enjoy a non-stop tour of the sights and tastes. Shane is fun and very, very knowledgeable about the area and the food you are tasting.

Fantastic!

I absolutely recommend this tour. Our guide, Nicki, was fun, well-informed, and enthusiastic, and the places we stopped to eat were all really interesting, not to mention offering delicious food. It was a great way to learn about other neighborhoods that are somewhat off the beaten track. I might recommend having only one chocolate stop, but other than that, you can't miss with this tour.

Tastiest tour I've been on
Tue, Aug 14, 07   11:00 AM midgetmama Female 20-29 Domestic Tourist(s) Individual
I managed to convince myself I was scheduled for 11:30 when the tour actually started at 11, and I received a call from Chicago Food Planet right at 11 to ask where I was. Thank goodness they did this, or I'd have been so far behind! They advised me to take a cab to the first tasting and that I would not miss anything. This worked out well. The group of about 15 people was easy to spot as was the guide, Tad. The food was all delicious, the tour was informative, and we saw some very beautiful neighborhoods. I've been craving a good potato pancake for about 15 years now, so that was a pleasant surprise, and I even finished my huge glass of tea even though I normally hate tea. The tastings were of very small portions, so I really did think I'd still need lunch after the tour, but by 9 p.m. when I went to dinner, I was still stuffed! The tour did end up being closer to 4 hours than 3. I don't know if I'd recommend listing the tour as being 4 hours though because then if it falls short, people will complain they didn't get their money's worth. However, if I'd have planned something else immediately after the tour, I may have gotten pretty annoyed. Maybe this isn't the usual, but it seems it may be by reading other posts. It was a hot and extremely humid day, but I still had a great time seeing new things in Chicago and finding such great specialty food shops!

Best Tour I did in Chicago

The tour was very informative. The guide Tad was very knowledgeable and friendly. The places we visited were very special local places and very enjoyable. The people in the shops shared food knowledge with us. Not only did we learn about the food we learned local facts. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone that enjoys and active tour and has an interest in food as well as getting off the beaten path.

Great Way to spend an Afternoon in Chicago
Mon, Aug 6, 07   1:30 PM jallen Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Individual
As a former city resident, I booked the tour just to spend time strolling through some of my favorite neighborhoods with the tastings being an after thought. However, much to my delight, the tastings turned out to be so much more enjoyable than I'd imagine. I did return to several of them the next day (with another former resident in tow) and made purchases -- tea, candy, olive oil and spices! Plus I plan to share info about all of the vendors with my local friends. Our guide Shane was funny, personable and gave a good presentation at each site. I felt welcomed at each stop. Our group, 10 people, was just the right size. There was so much packed into the two mile journey that it felt like a much longer trip -- but that's a good thing. The pace was perfect. I'd recommend this tour to anyone who truly enjoys interesting food.

Good Way To Spend A Day

If you are tired of the ordinary, and seek something different, this is a great way to spend a few extra hours. It was great to be able to walk around and not feel lost. I got to see and experience places that I would never have gone to on my own. Our guide (Nikki) was wonderful, knowledgeable and very well informed. My only wish is that we could have experienced more exciting culinary delights. Be aware....there is no shopping allowed on this trip, do to the time limit.

Unique way to see different Chicago neighborhoods!

The Chicago Food tour was a fun way to see some Chicago neighborhoods that I probably wouldn't have gotten to on my own. Our guide, Shane, was very dynamic and kept my interest throughout the entire 3 hour tour. The food tastings were great, but sometimes it felt that the stops were being made to give business to the merchants. I would have liked to hear a little more history about the areas we were visiting too. All in all, a fun way to spend an afternoon - and I was definitely full by the end - and had learned something too!

As it was my first time in Chicago, this walking and food tour was useful for learning more about Chicago's diverse neighbourhoods, famous people and tasty treats. My tour guide Nicki was incredibly knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the city. I highly recommend this tour at the start of your visit in Chicago. --PG

DELICIOUS & INFORMATIVE TOUR!
Wed, Jul 18, 07   11:00 AM EMERSHANNON Female 30-39 International Tourist(s) Individual
I VERY MUCH ENJOYED THE FOOD TOUR, IT WAS EVEN BETTER THAN I HAD ANTICIPTED. THE GUIDE WAS SO FRIENDLY AND INTERESTING AND MADE EVERYONE ON THE TOUR FEEL WELCOME. I REALLY ENJOYED ALL THE DIFFERENT PLACES/FOODS WE TRIED. THE WALKS THROUGH THE VARIOUS NEIGHBOURHOODS WAS EXTREMELY INTERESTING TOO-I WOULD NEVER HAVE FOUND ALL THOSE NICE SPOTS BY MYSELF IN THE FEW DAYS I HAD IN CHICAGO. NICKI MADE ALL THE INFORMATION SOUND FRESH AND INTERESTING EVEN THOUGH SHE HAS PROBABLY GIVEN THE TOUR HUNDREDS OF TIMES. THE YOUNG MAN, TROY, WHO WAS IN TRAINING WITH NICKI WAS ALSO VERY PLEASENT AND INFORMATIVE. IT WAS VERY GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY AND I WOULD RECOMMEND THE TOUR TO ANYONE GOING TO CHICAGO.

I had been on a Greenwich tour in NYC and decided to take the Chicago one. It was just as wonderful as the NYC tour. Our guide Nicki was great and very informative. When I bring my sisters back for a visit, this will definitely be on the agenda Jeanette

Relaxing and interesting

Our group was small just me an another gal which made the tour that much more interesting. I prefer a smaller group because it is more personal. Instead of the guide spitting out memorized information he was passionate about what he was teaching us about the city and its history. The places where we had tastings were a good variety and was a good balance for this type of tour. Althought we walked a great deal it was relaxing and not overwelming. It was a great way to see different parts the city you would otherwise not know about .

Single Woman Sings Praises

Traveling as a single woman, I enjoyed this tour very much. It was easy and comfortable to be a single in the group. The meeting location was easy to find and we were given good directions on how to get back after the tour. Our guide, Shane, was enthusiastic, humorous, and very knowledgable. He seemed to really enjoy giving the tour. I prefer walking tours over driving tours and this tour introduced me to neighborhoods I would never have seen on my own. I have a new appreciation for the city of Chicago. The food tastings were as described when I read about the tour online. The tastings were fun, but only part of the tour. I enjoyed and appreciated the comments on history, local life of the neighborhoods and communities, and the recommendations on restaurants. The pace was not rushed, yet it did not go too slow. The tour was advertised at taking 3 hours and ours took 3 1/2 hours. A friend who took the same tour the day before said her tour took closer to 4 hours. Our tour started at 2:00pm on Sunday. I would recommend taking an earlier tour to allow time to go back to the stores for shopping before they close.

Entertaining and informative

Looking for something different to do, I stumbled onto the Food Tour on the internet. It was the highlight of my trip since I had already seen the museums and other sights last year. Our guide, Shane, was very well informed and took us through many neighborhoods and gave us a great background of the different architectural styles and history. The weather was wonderful, and the group was fun to be with. The pace was an easy walking pace, and there was a restroom break and two places where we actually set down. My only complaint was that we were not allowed to buy at any of the stops, and they were rather difficult to find on our own. Also, the instructions on returning to the starting point were not correct since there was construction going on. I have a hearing deficiency, but was able to understand Shane's words easily. Make sure that you wear comfortable shoes for even though this comes advertised as a 2 mile trip, I think it was longer, and I walk 3 to 5 miles every day.

This is about the 10th time I have visited Chicago. I found out about this tour from a friend. It was different, entertaining and good exercise.
