Absolutely amazing!

My husband and I did the Near North Food Tour and loved every second of it! The tour guide, Jessie, was incredibly enthusiastic and knowledgable about both Chicago and food. She was so much fun! The tastings were fantastic and we loved that we got to see areas of Chicago we may not have seen otherwise. This tour is a MUST for anyone who loves food and wants to learn more about Chicago!

A fun, interesting afternoon
Sat, Aug 22  12:00 PM ricoloff Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
We all thought it was something fun and different to do on a Saturday afternoon. Jessie was a very fun and passionate tour guide. It was a decent amount of walking but not overly burdensome. Our only gripe would be that there really were no tastings at the spice house and the oil shop. The tour group gets the same thing that anybody off the street would get. My suggestion would be to provide a sample of something made with spices available at the spice shop and for some bread to be provided at the oil shop so we didn't have to dip with our fingers. For the money we paid, I would at least expect that. That being said, the pastrami sandwich, the chocolate and the pizza were all excellent and good portions.

Kate was a fun and knowledge guide. Two days after the tour, we returned to 4 of the tour stops and purchased items. This tour is a must do while in Chicago.

Great Way to see Chicago!
Sat, May 31, 08   11:00 AM richwee Male 50-59 International Tourist(s) Family With Children
This walk tour is just a great way to walk through the streets and alleys of Chicago. We get to walk streets I would not have found, taste food that I would not have tasted and hear stories I would not have otherwise heard. The pace of the tour was great - no rushing at all. I have lots of time to take photos too. Nicky our tour guide was all-knowledgeable and patient. She is very friendly. She knows her stuff - including the spice and teas. Overall, a very fun walk and my daughter Rosalyn mentioned that this is the the highlight of our week long in your beautiful city. Thank you.

Great idea, lose one of the chocolate shops.

My wife and I really enjoyed the tour. Our tour guide was personable, knowledgeable & enthusiastic. The shops were unique, but one of the chocolate shops could be eliminated. You should replace it with another shop where the group can get something of substance to eat, like the patato pancake & the pizza. People do expect a progressive eating experience and another type of shop with something of substance to eat would accomplish this. I have recommended the tour to several friends and will continue to do so. Very enjoyable day. Thanks.

Bucktown/Wicker-- tasting
Fri, May 8  11:30 AM Richndee1 Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
We love the food tasting tours. We did the Near North Tour last fall and it was excellent! Which is why we came back. This tour provided a generous amount of fabulous tastings. Favorite is HOT CHOCOLATE! Wow, how do they do that? The ice cream stop is an awesome concept yet the flavor we received did not complement any of the tastings or make me want to go back. We were told about an awesome flavor from "that Florida Guy" but having not tasted it, I would not go out of my way to stop again. Over all great fun!

Awesome!

What an awesome tour! Our guide Nicki was very informative and enthusiastic! We enjoyed all the stops with the exception for Catering Chocolate. (They made the group feel like we were an inconvience to them). We enjoyed the experience so much, that we went back the next day and accidently met a couple with whom we toured, ate pizza and revisited the shops! What fun! Will take Chicago Food Planet's other tour next time we visit the city!

Best Tour in Chicago!!!
Thu, Oct 8  11:30 AM richardgo Male 30-39 Domestic Tourist(s) Couple on a Date
We wished we would have done this tour the moment we landed. It was very informative and the food was not only authentic but AMAZING!!! Our tour guide Kent was friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The food was the best. There was a lot of food. From the Chicago hot dog at Mike's, the falafel from The Sultan, and the best part was ice cream from Icream (that lady is a genius). We were so full by the end of tour. We forced ourselves to go back to Wicker Park for dinner at the Silver Cloud, which of course was delicious. I recommend the White Trash Nachos and the Pot Pie. I wasn't too impress with Chicago the first time we went, but after taking this tour it gave me a whole new appreciation for this wonderful town. Even during the rain. We will definetly look for this type of tour in all our travels. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS...YOU MUST DO IT...

My friends and I absolutely LOVED the food tour - the food, locations, and architectural tour was surprisingly interesting! Our tour guide was fantastic, patient, and energetic. There was definitely thought put in with regards to the timing of what and when you ate and the whole ensemble was very enjoyable!

Wicker Park Tour a great experience
Sat, Aug 1  11:30 AM Ricardamundo Male 50-59 International Tourist(s) Couple on a Date
We joined the tour at George's Hot Dog (not sure if I have the name right) and spent a great 3 hours with our group and our tour guide Ben. At first the price seemed a little high but this is more than a walking tour. We had a nice array of tasty treats, a tour of the neighbourhood including commercial and residential areas, a sampling of typical Chicago architecture (small/local scale as opposed to the grandeur of downtown) and small doses of history mixed into our walk. In the end we felt it was very worthwhile and a good value. The Chicago hot dog, the chocolate drink with marshmallow (rated no 1 by our group) the antipasto treat, the falafel, the pizza and the ice cream were all great stops along the way and gave us a "taste of Chicago" and the neighbourhood. The pace was great, our tour guide friendly and informative (and a cool dude at that) and the time flew by as we toured the area, taking in shops, restaurants, homes, parks etc. The only thing to be concerned about is making sure you know where you are going when you head out to meet the group. We came from downtown and while we had no problem, it took some planning on our part and we left a little extra time which turned out to be needed. If you are looking for something different, a break from the hustle and bustle of downtown, and want to learn more about Chicago, take this tour. We highly recommend this leisurely walk and if we get back to Chicago, we would take another Chicago Foods tour without hesitation. Thanks Ben!

Food Tour a Must See, Do, and Taste
Sat, Aug 30, 08   11:30 AM rhondamac23 Female 30-39 Combination Group of Friends
Upon researching things to do in Chicago for our long weekend away, we found that the food tour had amazing reviews on tripadvisor, so we booked it. There were 8 adults in our trip. We chose an early tour - as recommended by previous participants to get to know the layout of the city - we had perfect weather so the day started off right. Here are a few tips/comments: - you do walk approx. 2 miles (and 2 miles back if you are in the mood) comfortable clothes and shoes are a must!! I would also recommend carrying a backpack so that if you do make purchases they are easier to carry :) - the walk is a comfortable pace with frequent pauses/stops. - ask questions to make the most of your experience and learn more about the city - there is a huge variety of houses and architectural items that are discussed - a camera is recommended but be prepared to take some pictures quickly some stops are very brief. - this tour is off the beaten path - we did not come close to coming back to the neighborhoods later on in our trip so if you see something towards the end of the trip make sure you spend some time exploring the area (great shopping) before returning to the starting point. - the tour guides advise against making purchases while on the tour, so make your selections quick or take note of the areas that you want to go back to. - the sample sizes are quite sizable - some places offered additional samples. But keep in mind the pizza sample is towards the end of the trip so pace yourself because the pizza is fabulous. - it is advised to eat breakfast before the tour - but don't eat too much because you start your first sample right away. - bring water with you, tried to purchase water at the first stop and all counter staff were busy and therefore service was really slow. - at the various stops the group was huddled together to minimize the impact to the customers of the establishments, be prepared to not have a chair at each stop. We all had very positive things to say about the tour and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We would highly recommend this tour to anyone. We also made numerous purchases later as we retraced our steps and utilized the coupons which are a very good deal!

Great Tour but want more food
Sat, Jun 21, 08   12:30 PM rheejh Male 30-39 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
Loved the chance to walk through some of the Chicago neighborhoods. Shane was very informed and obviously into his job on explaining Chicago to the group. My one area for improvement would be to beef up the food offerings. I did a similar tour in Greenwich Village a few years ago and we had samples of pizza, a gyro, part of a deli sandwich, pastries (cannoli). The food we had on the Chicago tour was good, but it would have been nice to have a little more. That said, loved the oil/vinegar place and the the two shops where we had chocolate. I would recommend the tour to friends going to Chicago.

Good Way To Spend A Day

If you are tired of the ordinary, and seek something different, this is a great way to spend a few extra hours. It was great to be able to walk around and not feel lost. I got to see and experience places that I would never have gone to on my own. Our guide (Nikki) was wonderful, knowledgeable and very well informed. My only wish is that we could have experienced more exciting culinary delights. Be aware....there is no shopping allowed on this trip, do to the time limit.

Fantastic Tour that I would Recommend
Tue, Jul 22, 08   11:00 AM rghigg Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
As a group of 5 friends from different parts of the country, we decided to take this food tour to see the real cultural part of Chicago. The tastings were wonderful on all aspects from the Chicago stuffed pizza to the tasting of the oils and spices. Of course, the chocolate tasting was a great ending to the tour. You could tell that each store owner was very knowledgeable of their craft. Our guide was very informative and just a fun person to lead the group. The set-up of the tour was just at the right pace; when to let us rest, when to give us food & drink, and when to take the restroom break. Greatly recommend this tour. Also recommend to take the tour at the beginning of your stay in Chicago - that way you can visit the individual places later in your stay!
