Good time was had by all!

I got a group of 16 ladies together to celebrate my sister's birthday in early October. None of us had ever done this tour but I had heard great things about it from a friend. Our guide was enthusiastic and knowledgeable, the day was picture perfect as far as the weather goes, and it was a unique experience. The shops we visited were places that we may never have known about unless we were on this tour, we learned some interesting tidbits about a couple of different areas in the city and there was plenty of time for chatting amongst friends as we walked between destinations. A highly successful event and a couple of the ladies said they would do it again with different friend groups. Our ages ranged from 20 years old to almost 60 and everyone enjoyed it.

Insightful, entertaining and excellent value

Ideal way to get a 'taster' of Chicago's food and architecture with a local guide. Excellent range of food venues sampling delis, teas, herbs, spices, vinegars, oils, chocolates, and not to forget pizzas. These, and where else to visit, are all presented with insight and enthusiasm. The group size of up to 15 was just right and made it easy to learn what others knew about where to visit in Chicago. Be prepared for a reasonable amount of walking with an informative and knowledgeable guide. Our guide - Rebecca - did a brilliant job. A truly memorable and engaging way to explore Chicago - highly recommended.

Great - Needs more balance

This tour was suppose to be 3 hours, but it was closer to 4. The originating stop had a food tasting, but the next 3 stops in a row were tea, spices, and oil/vinegar. While they were super interesting and a great part of the tour, the tour description says that it is good for lunch. We scheduled our tour for noon based on that. We had an 11 year old who was starving for the first two hours of the tour until we finally stopped at a candy shop, a catering store, and then finally to pizza and dessert. I would space out the food stops more evenly so that you're not starving for the first half of the walk and then full for the second. Our tour guide was great and very informative.

Could be better

About half of the places visited were wonderful and the others really lacked in content. Tea Gschwendner and the Spice House were the best. I think this is what is expected - have a little lecture about the product and a small tasting. The worst was Catering Chocolate. Just to pop in for two tastes of cheese had no substance. Even at the Fudge Pot where the manager did give a little bit of a lecture and passed around the cacao pod, dropped the ball by not explaining the difference between white, milk and dark chocolate - this is real basic stuff. I think Chicago Food Planet has a great concept but just needs to work on the actual content of each stop.

Great tour and food but prepare to stay awhile

My wife and I really enjoyed this tour. The locations of the eateries and quality of food were superb. However, the tour ran an hour over of the scheduled time and we had to run out at the end to make prior plans. We highly recommend but be prepared to stay longer then the agenda states.

Great way to see the neighborhood

The tasting tour was a great way to see Chicago's neighborhoods, particularly those outside of the downtown area. The guide takes you through various neighborhoods passing by Lincoln Park, Eclectic Row, Old Town, and Oz Park as well as various eating establishments in and near those areas. We most likely would not have visited these neighborhoods on our own. It was most definitely worthwhile and a great way to spend the afternoon.

Great but not quite what we expected

Great tour guide and tour. Enjoyed the history and culture of the city as much as the food. Only disappointment was that it was promoted as more local ethnic eateries but 3 of the stops were for chocolate and others were specialty shops that were not based on any old neighborhood history. Still all was good. Many amazing food and tastes that we will long remember.

Great Way to Start Your Trip to Chicago!

I thoroughly enjoyed this tour and highly recommend it to anyone at the beginning of your trip in Chicago. Our tour guide, Kent, was especially helpful and knowledgeable about details of this great city. I thought the amount of food provided was adequate. I ate breakfast around 9 am and was not hungry after the tour ended around 2:30 pm. Lots of walking, but with 2 rest stops I was fine. By the last stop I was ready for a rest, so the timing was just right. If I could change anything, I would suggest one less chocolate vendor. There were 3 and it would have been nice to have something else. It was a great way to get a feel for the city, it's history and of course, the food.!

Worth doing - wear comfortable shoes
Fri, Aug 15, 08   12:30 PM adhiya Unspecified 30-39 Domestic Tourist(s) Unspecified
We had a 1230 tour. If you eat breakfast like they tell you to on the confirmation printout - you'll be fine. The food you taste throughtout the tour is enough to keep you quiet if you have a normal appetite. Some unique/ items to taste - its a fun time for sure. You must must must wear comfortable shoes - the tour is advertised as 3 hours long - ours went 4 hours. What is not obvious is that if you plan to do any walking after this tour - you might not be upto doing much of it in the latter part of the day (and especially the next day) so plan your trip accordingly - keep things relatively light for your day b4/after the tour (or be doing something super fun where you wont notice how tired your legs are). Keeping this in mind - highly recommended.

This is the second time I attended the tour as a work outing. Everyone loved it - including one of my employees who was bit by a dog as we were walking. BTW, the dog's owner gave us bogus info so there was no recourse with the police. Thankfully, the victim wasn't injured badly and is on the mend. I would recommend getting a driver's license from the pet owner should it happen again (God forbid). Thanks for a great day out!

I recommend this tour to anyone. Our tour guide was great. I loved seeing shops and restaurants that I would not have otherwise visited without this tour. My husband and I went back to some of the shops a couple of days after the tour because we liked them so much.

great tour, lots of walking

The tour was awesome. The tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly. We saw neighborhoods in Chicago that I'm sure we wouldn't have seen had we not taken the tour. We went back to some of the stops on the tour to purchase things. The only minor drawback was the walking felt more like 5 miles.
