Fun, but a good bit of walking
Sun, Jul 13  11:00 AM supernova Female 30-39 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
We all really enjoyed the tour, but it was quite spread out. This caused some problems with our going back to actually do some shopping. We ended up having to walk about 5 miles to go through the tour and then double back to shop. Our shopping only took about 10 extra minutes per shop. I wish we were able to just do our shopping while on the tour rather than have to walk the whole way back.

Better than expected

We had a great time with Kate, she was informative but also spoke candidly and not like she was reading from a script. I would recommend doing this tour your first day in town and then you can see the areas that you want to go back to.

Kate was a fun and knowledge guide. Two days after the tour, we returned to 4 of the tour stops and purchased items. This tour is a must do while in Chicago.

Great way to see some local neighborhoods/shops
Sat, Jul 12  12:00 PM Katy01 Female 30-39 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
We started our tour at a Jewish deli. We sampled potato latkes, which are rather bland. I would have preferred to sample some other, more exciting item(s). The spice and olive oil shops were very interesting and unique, as was the first chocolate shop, and the tea shop. But curiously, the tour offered no meats or alcohol tastings. It would have been nice to sample a 1/4 glass of wine at the cheese shop or meat at the deli. Also we were not allowed to purchase anything at these places. I did not end up returning to these shops by foot afterwards (which sounds like a feasible idea but I will bet most don't) and now I will have to order online and pay shipping. I enjoyed the narration from our great guide, Jennifer. She seemed very knowledeable and was the perfect blend of informative, pleasant, diplomatic and low key. We toured local neighborhoods and saw some very unique and pricey private homes and a few historic buildings, and walked through Oz park. It was a beautiful day so that was a definite plus. So in summation, if I was in charge of this tour, I would eliminate the deli and second chocolate shop seatings and use that time for 10 minutes to shop at each store. Overall, I really enjoyed the tour and I recommend it. Its a fun way to "force" you to walk and learn about Chicago. The tour was a great value as well.

Must Do!

This tour was great! It is a wonderful way to see the city and learn a little about some local history as well as where to get great food. The best part is, you don't have to leave this great food in Chicago. All the places you visit have web pages and will ship so you can bring a taste of Chicago home with you or order it any time you want.

Interesting tour off the beaten path

We had a group of ten friends, some in the food service industry. We have all visited Chicago on many previous occasions & wanted something different to do. Everyone thought the most interesting part was walking through the neighborhoods of the Gold Coast, Lincoln Park & Old Town. The tour guide offered architectural comments along the way. Many of us loved the spice store & the oil & vinegar tasting. Bread served with it would have been very nice touch. It was a lot of walking, but manageable & fun to get out there. Tour guide was well versed & friendly. She knows her city! I would have to say that the "Food" portion of the tour c/b improved a bit. Too many chocolate stops. Why did we have to have "Healthy" deep dish pizza; bring on the real deal!? I would have liked to know more about the food, i.e, how it was made, cultural factors/traditions. The tour operator is well organized. I would recommend it if you are looking for something a little different.

Great Way to See Chicago

The food information was very interesting and the tastings were fun. But the small group tour of the city was the best. It was a nice way to get away from the typical tourist spots and see the neighborhoods of Chicago. Our guide Emily was fun, and very informative. Her enthusiasm was contagious. She really loves Chicago and it shows. We toured with our teenager, he loved the chocolate and the pizza. This is a great experience for teens and adults. I think it would be very difficult to tour with small children. This is a "must see" for your next trip to Chicago

My daughter & I went on this tour last weekend and it was the highlight of my visit to the City! We ate so much that we didn't need lunch OR dinner - and loved some of the shops so much that we went back that evening to purchase items to take home. The tour guide was wonderful - informative, fun, and personable. I would go on this tour again but am hoping that ther will be new tours developed for my next Chicago visit. Don't change a thing - this is the perfect way to spend a few hours getting to know the real Chicago.

This tour taught us a surprising amount about the neighborhoods of Chicago and the delicious foods we sampled. Our tour guide was a delight and the food was a genuine treat. It was an excellent introduction to Chicago. We recommend it to both visitors and locals.

It's a Chicago Must!

I was traveling to Chicago on business and spent a few days downtown doing what any tourist visiting Chicago for the first time would do; Millennium Park, John Hancock Observatory, Museums, etc. There were a few tours (i.e. the Architectural Boat Tour) I would have liked to have taken but my time ran out. I did however book Chicago Food Planet's food tour. It was AMAZING! The places we stopped were interesting, neighborhoods we walked through were great and it more than tickled my taste buds! Upon returning to my office in Atlanta, I recommended it as a "Must See" for anyone going up. Another interesting note, 75% of the attendees were Chicago natives. They seemed to be enjoying themselves as well! For anyone who loves to cook or just want's to see a local's perspective of Chicago, this food tour hits the mark!

I thoroughly enjoyed the tour! I've lived in the Chicago area my whole life, but I learned things and discovered food places I didn't know about. Walking though the neighborhoods and tasting the foods was most enjoyable. Our tour guide (Nikki) was great! I would recomend this tour to locals and visitors alike. Just wish we had a little more time to shop and purchase some of the delicious products!

Excellent walking tour, with nice neighborhood info from our guide, Nikki. She was very personable, fun, energetic, you could tell she enjoys her job. The places we went were interesting and eclectic. My husband and I visit Chicago all the time but did not know of these places and it was nice to have our eyes opened to new parts of the city and the stores and restaraunts. Highly recommend and would do it again.

We did a small group company outing and all really enjoyed the tour! We were able to go to places we had never been despite the fact that all of us were from Chicago. The tour guide was excellent and we would consider doing this again! Thanks!
