A perfect introduction to the 'flavor' of Chicago

| As in the heading this tour was a perfect introduction to the 'flavor' of Chicago and its neighborhoods. Kate was our tour guide and she easily 'fit' to the composition of our group and provided interesting and entertaining commentary in a relaxed and enjoyable way. Each stop was wonderful and the winding through the Near North was a great way to open us up to exploring Chicago, as this was our first trip. I can't emphasize enough how personal Kate made the tour and how accessible each shop was to us. We ended our tour at Bacino's and while enjoying our 'flight' of sample beers John McMahon was a gracious host, going out of his way to talk about each beer, its origins and brewery. We felt like honored guests and got such an education, much like you would on a winery tour. The Near North Foodie Tour cemented the Midwest Welcome we felt from the first day of our trip and only made us want to see and 'taste' more. Bravo Good luck Kate on your graduate school in Portland - you will surely be a success wherever you go and hopefully you will continue to guide people - you are a natural!! I highly recommend this tour, and each stop surely holds something for everyone. I look forward to trying the tour in the other neighborhood s on my next Chicago visit. | ||||||

| This tour is off the beaten "tourist" track. If you love seeing where locals eat, shop and live this is the tour for you. Walking through three beautiful Chicago north neighborhoods, you will visit unique restaurants and food shops tasting as you go! I was in Chicago for a convention. I did this tour the day before the convention started. I told everyone at the convention about this tour! | ||||||

| I booked this tour because we had done one in NYC and found it to be a nice way to learn about history, architecture, people and food. The Chicago tour was outstanding. Our guide, Jennifer, was very personable and knowledgeable. What I liked most about the tour was that it took me to parts of the city I wouldn't have found on my own and shops I might have walked past without realizing what I was missing. The highlight of the tour was Old Town Oil because mixing olive oil and balsamic vinegars was so much fun and a completely new experience. I have returned in person and online to make purchases. We enjoyed learning about deep dish vs. stuffed pizza and made a point to try both before leaving Chicago. We also returned to Oz Park which was a gem and a nice break for my 11 year old niece who took the tour with us. On my next trip to Chicago I will definitely book the Bucktown tour to further explore the neighborhoods and food of the city. | ||||||

| This tour was a wonderful way to get to know a portion of a big city. (We have done walking tours of Paris and London that we would recommend too.) We loved the tour's choice of food highlights and neighborhoods. Come hungry and ready to shop (after the tour)! | ||||||

| This is our second food tour in Chicago. The food was good and the tour was very interesting. I found our tour guide to be very friendly, maybe to much at times. He tried to hard to be liked. I would recomend doing this as a couple, group or a single. I think kids would be bored and the walking may be to much for a small child | ||||||

| Even though we were all locals of Chicago we learned quite a lot about the history of the Bucktown/Wicker Park neighborhood. There are many places we look forward to going back to and exploring on our own. Thanks Carey for a great tour. | ||||||

| The guide was friendly and gave an architectural tour as well as showing us some unique eating establishments off the main tourist area of Chicago. If I hadn't taken other tours of Chicago, I might have taken this company's Near North tour as well. By the way, there is WAY too much food, don't have breakfast before you go. | ||||||

| I thoroughly enjoyed Kate, our guide. We learned a lot about the Near North and about some of the wonderful establishments that have been in that area for a long time. There were ample "tastings" and the group moved at a slow enough pace that it was relaxing to be on the walk. Very interesting and now I feel comfortable going back to those areas. I also look forward to taking the other tour that the Chicago Food Planet has to offer. | ||||||

| Touring Chicago and visiting the unique shops and restaurants was the best part of out trip!! The people were so friendly and helpful. The food was fabulous. Can't wait to go on another tour. We only went to the North tour, but wish we had also booked the Bucktown tour. We definitely will go on our next visit to Chicago!! | ||||||

| The Guide was friendly and very knowledgeable, however, if you eat normal size meals, you won't find a big lunch here. When they say a taste tour, they aren't kidding. The deli, the first stop, had cracker size sandwiches. The caterer had hummus and crackers, despite the fact his food cases were full of every kind of food, you did not get to choose anything to try. The Tea Shop was, by far, the most informative stop, but we got the bum's rush to finish drinking our tea and leave by the guide. The Chicago Pizza place at the end was really disappointing. I have had better pizza from my frozen foods section of my store. Tasteless and understated. . By the way, it is only a cheese pizza, no toppings, and you get just one piece. When we left the tour, we had to stop for lunch. They also don't tell you the parking is $24.00 for the day, no matter how long you stay. One stop was an Olive Oil and Vinegar store, which should be on the "Condiment" tour. I don't know how snooty you have to be to Have your own special Olive oil and Vinegar mix, but if you are into buying expensive Olive Oil and Vinegar, this is your place. As far as tasting, If you have Olive Oil, you can add your own flavors at home, if you like that, and skip this place. My take: try the Bucktown Tour. | ||||||

Good, but more "food" would be better

| The architectural/historical part of the tour was very good. However, about 1/2 of the tastings were tastes of iced tea, spices/oils. Hence, "food" tasting is a bit misleading, but overall would still recommend. | ||||||

| We really enjoyed the tour. We learned things about spices & tea that we never knew before! It was great to be able to taste & sniff various spices. The smell from outside the store was amazing! It was also fun to taste different combinations of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. My only regret is that we weren't able to shop. Since the tour ends a fair distance from where it started, going back to shop is a bit of an inconvenience. We'll make a point of going back to this neighborhood on a future visit! | ||||||

| Enjoyed the tour of bucktown and wicker park. The venues visited were diverse and interesting. Information about each establishment was given by our guide, Ben, who also gave us a walking tour of this area. Ben kept the tour moving and interesting at all times. All the food and drinks provided were delicious and a very generous helping. After three hours on the tour your stomach was full and you were definitely thinking of going on their other tour in the future. | ||||||

| We visited Chicago last weekend, and had a SUPER time on Friday on a "tasting & architectural overview" tour of Chicago's Gold Coast, Old Town and Lincoln Park. Our tour guide was Jessie, who did an excellent job of enthusiastically explaining the great tastes that were offered, and filled us in on some fascinating aspects of Chicago history and architecture. My wife and I would now like to go on the other Chicago Food Planet tour (in another set of Chicago neighborhoods). Next trip, , , , Thanks for a fun experience ! Regards, Dave B. from Cincinnati | ||||||
