Not too bad

We really liked the spice shop and the pizza restaurant and the chocolate shop. We thought the oil shop was weak. It sold mediocre oil. We have sourced better oil ourselves. we personally have better balsamic vinegar than was on offer in this shop. Weak point of tour. It would have been helpful if the guide had made recommendations of other restaurants/cafes on our route. Generally the other places were weak and the food was mediocre. This includes the oil shop and the deli and the sandwich shop. The Wicker Park food tour is much better.

Wicker Park Tour a great experience

We joined the tour at George's Hot Dog (not sure if I have the name right) and spent a great 3 hours with our group and our tour guide Ben. At first the price seemed a little high but this is more than a walking tour. We had a nice array of tasty treats, a tour of the neighbourhood including commercial and residential areas, a sampling of typical Chicago architecture (small/local scale as opposed to the grandeur of downtown) and small doses of history mixed into our walk. In the end we felt it was very worthwhile and a good value. The Chicago hot dog, the chocolate drink with marshmallow (rated no 1 by our group) the antipasto treat, the falafel, the pizza and the ice cream were all great stops along the way and gave us a "taste of Chicago" and the neighbourhood. The pace was great, our tour guide friendly and informative (and a cool dude at that) and the time flew by as we toured the area, taking in shops, restaurants, homes, parks etc. The only thing to be concerned about is making sure you know where you are going when you head out to meet the group. We came from downtown and while we had no problem, it took some planning on our part and we left a little extra time which turned out to be needed. If you are looking for something different, a break from the hustle and bustle of downtown, and want to learn more about Chicago, take this tour. We highly recommend this leisurely walk and if we get back to Chicago, we would take another Chicago Foods tour without hesitation. Thanks Ben!

Eat your way through the highlights of the Chicago

It was a different way to see Chicago. Any tour that involves food as part of the experience wins in my books. All the stops were great. Except for maybe the Catering Chocolates one. I didn't quite get why we were there. The chocolate, pizza, oil and tea were awesome and we went back a few days later to buy stuff from the stores to share with the family we were visiting with.

This is a fantastic tour, the highlight of our trip as we were visiting from Tokyo, Japan. Really enjoyed the variety of shops included on the tour. It was very educational as well as tasty! Would have never had the chance to sample balsamic vinegars, olive oils and more! A must if you like food and want to learn more about Chicago.

A great activity that gives the perfect introduction to Chicago. Works on many different levels. Knowledgeable and friendly guide, fabulously varied tastings, and some hidden gems. Would recommend it to anyone.

Very enjoyable. Great food tastings (almost too much food in the short space of time!). Leader Kent was very knowledgeable about the area. It was a good opportunity to see a part of Chicago I would otherwise have not explored in the short time I was there.

An enjoyable way to get a feel for the city. Visually pleasing since Chicago is such a clean and green place with beautiful flowers. The architure is varied and detailed. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and sincerely seem to enjoy herself as she lead us on our tour. It was an opportunity to enjoy different tastes.

While Chicago is known for its public architecture, its soul resides in its neighbourhoods, and this tour is a perfect introduction to some of the green and lovely areas of the city. Jennifer our guide was engaging and absolutely lovely and we gained a terrific insight into what it could be like to live in the inner city and shop at its family-run independent food businesses. The tour started with an amazing Reuben sandwich and finished with an even richer stuffed pizza, and along the way we sipped and nibbled and swilled at a vibrant collection of local shops. Between stops Jennifer entertained us with stories about the history, architecture, character and residents of the Gold Coast, Old Town and Lincoln Park. All in all, it was a fabulous tour and we recommended it to every visitor to Chicago.

felt like we belonged to the total group while the tour was on , tour guide made us feel very welcome, engaged in conversation with everyone, tour guide informative and upbeat. Food was great, stores were interesting, even went back and purchased items another day...lovely area of chicago we would not have seen otherwise.

A great way to see a portion of Chicago

I took this tour with a group of work colleagues (3 women and 1 male spouse) while we were in Chicago for a conference. We all thoroughly enjoyed the tour. It provided some physical activity, some food, some history and factual information--yet not too much of any one of them. The tastings were well timed as far as washroom breaks and food intake mixed with walking and stopping to see points of historical/cultural or architectural interest. The tour started and ended on time. Our guide was very enthusiastic (almost over the top), friendly, knowledgable and able to manage the group. I would have liked the group to be a bit smaller in number in order to better fit into some of the smaller shops that we visited but it was managable. I also went back to 4/7 shops a few days later to purchase products as did another member of our group. Overall I would heartily recommend the tour. I had taken the Bucktown/Wicker Park tour 2 days prior to the North Town one and would also recommend that tour as it was equally well done.

This tour genuinely exceeded my expectations!!!! I give it 100 stars out of 4!!! I was impressed by the tour guide's knowledge, passion, and enthusiasm, willingness to answer questions, openness to recommend other restaurants in Chicago, and she spoke really well!! The places we went to and the streets we walked were fantastic!!!! I loved every stop we made, and wish there was more food! Although at the end, the pizza was very filling so I guess the proportions were just right. I learned quite a bit about tea, spices, oils, and the residential areas....it was truly a worthwhile tour and I have already started recommending it to my friends, co-workers and family!!

My family and I participated in the tour on the basis of reading about it on Trip Advisor. We chose the Bucktown tour as we thought it would give us an insight on an area we wouldn't otherwise visit, plus we liked the sound of the eateries! Ben our tour guide was a very enthusiastic, likeable person who obviously enjoyed what he was doing and most importantly knew his subject. It was a very relaxed environment, and the tour was taken at a very relaxed pace, especially as we had a few of the older generation with us! However, this was not a problem as it was a hot afternoon and we were quite happy to keep a slower pace. The food provided was excellent and plentiful, in fact we were all not very hungry for dinner in the evening. Take out bags were provided if required. Overall, I would recommend this tour to all ages and in fact next time we are in Chicago we will definitely do the other tour offered. Well done Ben!

We really enjoyed the tour. Our guide Kent was very knowledgeable about the areas we visited. We really loved the focus on architecture and the changing demographics of the area. The food was great and filling!! We could not eat it all and took some away for later.

This was definitely a highlight of our trip and the best part was this was the first tour we did 3 hours after we arrived in Chicago. This tour allowed us to see sites we probably would have never made it to as well as our guide was amazing. Overall we would highly recommend this to anyone who wants to see some out of the way sites and enjoy some traditional Chicago food. Thank you for such an amazing start to a wonderful trip to Chicago.
