If you love to try new restaurants and learn about old neighborhoods, this tour is for you. We went to a few new young hip places to eat and a few that have been around for some time. If I had to pick a favorite, I think it would have to be I-Cream. Very innovative and very fun! Even though I live in the suburbs, I will come back for I-cream! We had all ages in our group and it was very fun!

This was a great tour. Loved the food venues chosen, the walking tour of the neighborhood was great seeing the changes that have taken place. Our tour guide did a super job - was very informative, nice persoanlity, and kept everybody on track. Went on both tours of Food Planet and would love to go on more in the different neihborhoods around the City. Hope you can come up with more for next year. Keep up the great work!

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of Wicker Park/Bucktown. Kent was our guide and he was very knowledgeable about the area- kept my 15 yr old's interest for the entire tour. The food was fabulous- do not eat before the tour!! It was really interesting to tour the homes and learn how the area had changed over the years. Not to be missed!!

Tired and hungry at the end.

Not near enough food to sample. The tour was advertised as having more to sample than what you really did. Spices? Who samples spices? And oil and vinagers? Really? Oil and vinager... The tour guide was fantastic. My complaints had to do with how exhausting the walk was and how ridiculous the "samples" were. I'll list the samples: Reuban sandwich (three bites), a glass of tea, spice shop, oil & vinegar shop, chocolate shop, hummus and cheese on crackers, a slice of spinich pizza. I feel overcharged for what I received.

Interesting neighborhood with great food

I loved the info on the neighborhood and its history. I liked learning about the "famous" chefs we have (I live in Bucktown). Food was great although a little too much for me. I should have eaten half the hot dog! A little shopping mixed into the tour would be nice too but overall, it was terrific and I'd recommend it to others.

While Chicago is known for its public architecture, its soul resides in its neighbourhoods, and this tour is a perfect introduction to some of the green and lovely areas of the city. Jennifer our guide was engaging and absolutely lovely and we gained a terrific insight into what it could be like to live in the inner city and shop at its family-run independent food businesses. The tour started with an amazing Reuben sandwich and finished with an even richer stuffed pizza, and along the way we sipped and nibbled and swilled at a vibrant collection of local shops. Between stops Jennifer entertained us with stories about the history, architecture, character and residents of the Gold Coast, Old Town and Lincoln Park. All in all, it was a fabulous tour and we recommended it to every visitor to Chicago.

Thumbs Way Up for the Food Tour

I attended the Near North Food Tour with a 5 member work group. Another group in our department had previously taken the tour and were very impressed. I've lived in Chicago most of my life and thought that I knew a lot about the various neighborhoods we visited but, I was wrong. Our tour guide, Jennifer was fun, enthusiastic, and very knowledgeable about Chicago history and architecture. We enjoyed every stop on the tour....it's hard to decide which was the favorite....the chocolate shop, oil shop, spice emporium or the delicious pizza. I would recommend this to any food lover who would enjoy a leisurely stroll in a beautiful city with a lively, informative tour guide. Thank you!

felt like we belonged to the total group while the tour was on , tour guide made us feel very welcome, engaged in conversation with everyone, tour guide informative and upbeat. Food was great, stores were interesting, even went back and purchased items another day...lovely area of chicago we would not have seen otherwise.

My friends and I all loved learning about the two neighborhoods Wicker Park and Bucktown. None of us knew anything about either one. Our guide Kyle was very informative and kept us entertained the entire 3 hours. And the food...WOW...come hungry. Everything was delicious.

Interesting more information than food
Wed, Jul 22, 09   11:30 AM kidsntow Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
You will certainly fill up on information, as for food...they say to eat first. The information and atmosphere of this walking tour is wonderful, the tastes are just that..."tastes", but that is just what we wanted and expected. Our family had a great experience! The only thing that I would hope would change for others is that for those unfamilier with this city, it was not easy for us to return to the start point. Think of a long walk in one direction. The tour leaves you on your own at the end, far from the beginning. If we lived there and were pros at getting around...no big deal, but when you do this tour be sure to factor in at least $22 dollars for parking plus taxi fare??$ or be prepared for a long walk back. We felt this was worth our time and really enjoied the tour...Caterer was really a bummer though, not too pleasent and cheese and hummus certainly does nothing to showcase his "Tallents".

We Had A GREAT Time

This is the second time on the tour for me. I love the food and the tour guide was very knowledgeable about the architecture and the history of the area. I was very glad that some of the menu items changed, not that the previous food was bad but it was nice to have a little change. The only thing I would recommend that you may want to do differently is tell people that the tour is 3 1/2 hours long, just in case they made plans for afterwards.

Our guide was wonderful. She gave us information and entertained us. My favorite stop was to Tea Gschwender. I had no idea that tea could taste so great without sugar!

Loved the walking food tour that I was on. I got to see parts of Chicago I otherwise wouldn't have and sample some of the most delicious foods that Chicago brags about. Our tour guide was enthusiastic, informative, very helpful and friendly. A great experience that I would highly recommend when in Chicago.

A wonderful experience

For many years we have been traveling to Chicago to experience the "Big City" culture and food. We have enjoyed the plays, museums, eaten at many of the fine restaurants but , we wanted to experience something different. this trip. We chose to stay in a Gold Coast hotel and when I saw the Near North Food Tasting and Cultlural Walking Tour on-line - I thought it would fit in perfectly with our plans and it did. We thoughly enjoyed the quaint shops and the great food on the tour. Our guide was very informative and it was just not a walk from shop to shop, but an educational tour. Being from a small town in the mid-west it was great to feel the eating experience with the locals in their neighborhoods.

Wonderful way to taste and touch the city

Great food and interesting selections. A nice mix of specialty and "main stream" stores. Who would have thought you could have so much fun learning about olive oil and vinegar! The spice shop is a MUST see and smell. I plan on ordering from them going forward! Thanks for such a wonderful afternoon!!!
