Girls' Weekend Away
Sat, Oct 3  11:00 AM TrudyWright Female 70+ Combination Family With Children
Every year my five daughters and I do a "girls weekend away." We did one in Chicago last year and took in a lot of fun places and restaurants. This was a weekend away for me with just my youngest daughter (30 yrs. old) and I. We wanted to do something fun other than the usual shopping and things we had done before. I found out about this activity by searching online for "things to do in Chicago." We love trying new things and love to eat at unusual places. One of my grandsons is an architect in New York and we loved seeing homes and other buildings designed by one of his favorite architects - Frank Lloyd Wright., along with all the other interesting homes and buildings. This was everything we had hoped for and we can't wait to go back to spend time in Old Town again. The young woman who led the tour was very knowledgable and fun. We enjoyed her very much!

Nikky was a great and enthusiatic guide

My friend from Florida and I had such fun. We are both older, one with one new knee, and myself with 2 new knees and 2 new hips. Nikky let us walk at our leisure and made sure we were comfortable. We took a taxi right back to the oil store and the spice store. I have been shopping through them but wanted my friend to see the insides of them. Brought home alot! We are going to get the tea place on the web. Personally I loved the archetecturial (sp) information she would impart. I was born in Chicago but had never seen where we went. How could you not love it. Since I have been back am sending your information to other ladies who I told about it as they are real interested in the tour. Next time I come to Chicago I am bringing a cooler and heading right for the deli. Wonderful. Of course, you must remember the weather was perfect. The tour was better than I expected and would certainly tell anyone who would listen all about it.

What a wonderful adventure we had- everything was so well organized with a delightful and energetic guide who was kind, observant of all of us, efficient with serving the samples, friendly in each establishment where we enjoyed their specialty food and beverage--plus he was able to answer any questions we had and was very knowledgeable about the neighborhoods. It was a well worthwhile use of our time and money :) Great fun! Thanks for the memories!! We plan on doing more of the same.

Chicago Food & Cultural Tour
Sat, Sep 12  11:00 AM Childree Male 70+ Domestic Tourist(s) Individual
My wife and I very much enjoyed this tour. Two things stand out: first, a brief review of the architectual and cultural aspects of Near North Side of Chicago was quite interesting and not something you get on the big tour buses. Our guide, Jennifer, was quite knowledgeable about the area (s). I especially enjoyed the walk through the Gold Coast area and seeing some of the homes there - Florsheim and Playboy Mansion stand out. Jennifer knew the prices of the condos that are being converted from the old mansions. Second, the foods and accompanients on Wells St. in Old Town was also interesting. I think this part of the tour is mostly for the ladies, but I particularly enjoyed testing the oils and vinegars at Old Town Oil. I wanted to take some home, but cannot due to restrictions of liquids on air flights. We both enjoyed the deep dish pizza in Lincoln Park. One thing I would have enjoyed on the food tour would be a "Chicago hot dog". I have heard of these but not sure how they are different from other hot dogs. That about sums it up. Say Hi to Jennifer! With 6 members of family from Florida, Maine and Ohio, we really enjoyed the tour. Pacing was good, and selection of establishments was superb. Locals remarked how unique these were! Tea, spice and oil were tops!

So much more than expected

We are former residents of the Chicago area and at the suggestion of friends, we participated in the tour on June 28th. We found it so interesting and enjoyed all of the places we visited. In addition to the food, we especially enjoyed some of the architectural facts we learned while on the tour. While we lived in the area, we always enjoyed visiting these areas, but it was so nice to learn some additional facts about the area. Jennifer Greenberg was our tour guide and she did an excellent job. My husband is hard of hearing and her explanations were all audible to him.

Our guide, Jen, was the most enthusiastic person, so upbeat and really knew the area. She was funny and light and had a wonderful rapport with the merchants we visited. Only one stop on the tour could have been eliminated. All the rest were great and for sure we had enough food to last the day.

This tour was a highlight of our trip to Chicago. Our tour leader was knowledgable, enthusiastic, and absolutely charming. She made sure all participants on the tour were comfortable, especially one lady with a walking device who needed a chair to rest on at each stop. The selection of purveyors was a pleasant surprise - each one gave us a sense of the "only in Chicago" products they produced. I was smitten by the olive oil and balsamic vinegar shop, and I already have my order to email to them! We received tastes and demonstrations at each stop and were quite full by the end of the tour. I loved the historical notes on Old Town that our guide shared throughout the walk! I'd recommend this tour to anyone!

It was a highpoint of our Chicago visit.

There were four of us and we loved the variety of places we went. Later in the week we went back to eat at a restaurant which was recommended on our tour --Bistrot Margot, which was wonderful. Whille there, even though it was pouring rain, we returned to the chocolate, oil and sspice stores for more purchases. Now I feel like I actually know the neighborhood. I have a slight mobility handicap, so I took a taxi from the sixth to seventh place and skipped the longest walk, but none of the food. The rest of the group walked. We both were pleased with our experiences.

The information on the area was great, we could have handled even more on some of the buildings we passed. The food and information at the stores was well done and much appreciated.

Our guide (Nikki) a woman around forty was excellent and full of a lot of interesting things to tell us. She paced the tour so that no one was left out. She obviously had a good relationship with the shop keepers we visited. Your add was right about it taking care of lunch for the day. All in all a well spent two hours.

Both my 17 year old granddaughter and I were most pleased with this tour. We take Chicago tours frequently and we both said this is the best tour we have taken in the Chicago area. The guide was especially great. Her enthusiasm and knowledge was remarkable. I definitely will and have been, encouraging others to take advantage of this venture.
