great experience as a local

| I'm a local, and really into food in general. We didn't really eat that much on the tour, but I really enjoyed the little shops we went to, ones we pass by often as locals but never go into. I would say that the food part wasn't that exciting, but the overall experience was nice. | ||||||

| Chicago can be intimidating. Small mom and pop places can make one feel like an outsider. But participating in a food tour was like hanging out with a local friend that was showing you the best local treasures. | ||||||

| We did this tour for my wife's birthday. It was really neat to get to know the North side of Chicago so much better. All the stops were great, but our favorite was the olive oil and balsamic vinegar shop. This was a great tour, with a knowledgable fun tour guide. | ||||||

| I am a Lakeview resident and was looking up different tours offered in Chicago. I wanted a way to get to know more about a neighborhood other than my own and stumbled upon the tours when googling. I decided the Wicker Park/Bucktown tour would be a great way to try new food and walk around a neighborhood I don't visit very often. I was plesantly surprised by how worthwhile the tour was! Our guide was fun and knowledgable about the history of the neighborhood as well as the food places we visited. She took the time to walk us through the neighborhood streets and give a background on the houses and history as well. This was well-worth the money spent. It was a full serving per person at each restaurant and the tour guide gave great insights. I highly recommend this tour even if you are a Chicago resident. It was fun, delicious and insightful. I wish they did more neighborhoods! | ||||||

| An unique approach to viewing an unfamiliar city. Enjoyed interacting with others on the tour all of whom were residents of Illinois. We are from the west coast and definitely benefited from the small group. The high energy docent encouraged conversation when appropriate. Good choice/blend of shops/restaurants. The information we collected will transfer back to California, if not the precise products. | ||||||

| Holy smokes, this was the highlight of my trip to Chicago. I grew up in a western suburb of Chicago, but came with friends who were new to the town. We did the standard tourist route, visiting museums and zoos and restaurants. The food tour, however, combined history, culture and deliciousness all in one. Curators create shows at museums that attempt to engage people thoroughly and sometimes they succeed. Like at the Field Museum. Sometimes they don't. Like at the Adler Planetarium. This tour was like the Field Museum, only you ended with a full tummy in addition to a full brain. | ||||||

| Our family group traveled to Chicago from different parts of the U.S. None of us had been to Chicago and of course, all we had heard about was the FOOD. This was a great way to get a taste of the city. Each of us had our favorite tastes. All of us thoroughly enjoyed the hot dog; thought the falafel sandwich was top knotch (and we all come from areas with great middle eastern food); loved the icream; thought the taste from the goddess/grocer was the downfall and didn't quite understand why the talk at Hot Chocolate was all about the pasteries and the taste was a drink. The liquid wasn't a disappointment, only a bit confusing since that wasn't what the guide hyped. The pizza was okay, just not what one hears about in terms of chicago-style. We all live in cities where we have our own faves for thin-crust pizza and the stop on the tour certainly didn't out-rank any of those. All in all the tastes were good and the comments regarding other eateries we passed were informative. The tour went on a bit too long (way over 3 hours) and the walks through the residential sections a bit too much. The 'so what' factor needs some work regarding that part of the tour. Food-wise the tour was worth it; time was it can be cut by 30 minutes; culture-wise it needs some work. | ||||||

| Having never been on a food tasting tour, I was worried it would be much like walking through the grocery store and getting bite-sized samples of various foods. However, I was pleasantly surprised at the portions we were served, and although some of them were not "full-size" samples, they were plenty big! I was quite full by the end of the walk. Our tour guide was enthusiastic, polite, and entertaining. He was quite knowlegeable about the sights and architecture of the neighborhood. The tour was well worth the money, and I would definately do it again...maybe next time on the North side tour. I also plan on returning to a few of the restaurants I was introduced to...the "medium" chocolate drink at Hot Chocolate was to die for; the "that guy from Florida" at iCream was incredible; and the falafel sandwich at Sultan's Market is a new and totally unexpected favorite. If you're looking for something different to do in Chicago, book this tour!!! | ||||||

| We took the tour for my husbands birthday and we had a blast. Scott was super friendly and knowledgeable. He went out of his way to get to know everyone and thoroughly explained everything we saw and ate. I would recommend this tour to anyone that will listen! The locations were great and we will return. We may do this again soon, just for fun. | ||||||

| We thoroughly enjoyed this tour...nice variety of stops, unique businesses that you'd probably not know to check out on your own, great bits of history throughout, and highly recommended. If you have a few days to spend in Chicago, do this as early on as possible so you can go back to the shops and take your time in them. This style of tour is now going to be a staple of our travels! | ||||||

Fantastic way to see the city and taste new things

| This was a great way to see parts of Chicago a tourist might not normally see-- or people who live there for that matter! I loved how the walking and eating were mingled, not too much of either at any time. The servings were "taste" size so you weren't starving, but you weren't stuffed either, and there wasn't much "guilt" if you were cheating on your normal diet or eating plan-- there was LOTS of walking! We were behind another group that was going a bit slower, so I got to hear their tourguide sometimes too, and I think all the guides do a great job telling you interesting things about the city, the buildings you look at, as well as the local shops and restaurants you visit-- each in their own way (no set "speech" that sounded rehearsed) and at the pace of the group. If there was any constructive comment I could make, it would just be for MORE! More information about the area, local buildings of interest or famous people or events, maybe 1 more food stop? I love the tour and have already recommended it to my Chicago native friends as well as everyone here at home, and I can't wait to take the other tour (and more if you come up with them) as well as looking for similar tours in other cities we visit and even here at home. YOU GUYS ROCK!!!!! p.s. maybe give a prize to the person who answers the most questions right over the course of the tour? Just sayin'... ;-D LOL | ||||||

| The food tasting and cultural walking tour is a great way to see a side of the city you can only see with someone who knows where they're going and what to see. It was just terrific. The tour includes a wide variety of flavors and scents, not just a particular kind of food. It is well organized and includes lots of great trivia. The food samples are awesome. The oil and spice shops are unexpected gems; the Black Currant Balsamic Vinegar is fantastic. I left feeling enriched and energized, wanting to see and do more in the great city of Chicago. | ||||||
