I really enjoyed the tour even though we were stuck with a rainy day. Our tour guide kept the mood light and upbeat despite the dismal weather. I have to caution individuals thinking about taking the tour solo. At times I felt as though I was just tagging along because everyone else was participating with friends and family. My attempts to stay engaged and interact with the guide were limited by a couple that monopolized much of our tour guides time while walking. All in all a nice experience with lots to learn and experience.

The tour was better than expected. It was nice to be out of downtown Chicago for a day and experience some local culture. The Bucktown/Wicker Park area has a lot of charm and the history of the area is quite interesting. The length of the tour is perfect and takes you to places you might not otherwise go when visiting Chicago. Our tour guide Kent was great too, he made the tour interesting and exciting. Having lived in the area, you knew you were getting some first hand knowledge from a local and not some tourguide that picked up his information from a company handbook. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to fill up a day with a fun activity.

Good concept but could be better

The idea of mixing classical tourist tour with food tasting is a good idea. But the historic/architecture explanations were quite poor, and the tasting (in particular the pizza at the end) not really fantastic.

Opened my eyes

I had been to Chicago many times over the years for business and really didn't like the town, becuase I went to typical business/trade show activities/locations. This really helped me see the side of Chicago everyone loves. The larger food portions were at the end of the tour, and I think it would have been better at the start.

The tour was a unique culinary experience conducted in a friendly and informative atmosphere. My mother and I had an excellent time exploring these neighborhoods of Chicago and enjoyed all the tastings and information which was given. Group size was perfect and tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area.

We all enjoyed the food and the history. The guide was very personable and knowledgable. Our group of 6 included my older parents, who were a little slow with the walking. The description says for all ages and fitness levels, and we proved that was true! The guide was attentive to us and our needs; made sure we crossed the streets safely and caught up with the group. We had food experiences we had never expected and had plenty to eat.

This was a very enjoyable 3 hours walking through some great areas of Chicago. The combination of stops were great and we lookforward to taking another trip and also returning to some of the stores that we stopped at.

This tour is great for a foodie or anyone who wants to learn more about the neighborhoods of Chicago. This tour walked through the Gold Coast, Old Town (home of Second City), and Lincoln Park. Not only did we get to enjoy the local flavor, but we also got to learn about the neighborhoods, the history, and the architecture.

If you have a few hours and a love of food, this is the tour for you. Great insight into food and these wonderful historic neighborhoods. You walk to earn the right to test some unique foods.

We had a great tour and our guide was fantastic. We got plenty of interesting information about food and its background and had enough time to spend on every spot in order to explore the stores by ourselves. In addition we got explanations about builidings and areas we passed by. I can highly recommend this tour!!!! I really enjoyed it, so join the tour whenever you make a stopover in Chicago!

Great way to see Chicago through new eyes

We really enjoyed the walking tour and the tastings. Our guide (Jennifer) was enthusiastic and passionate about the neighborhoods and shops we visited. I think the price is a little expensive when you think about the amount of food...obviously you factor in the "experience" and tour aspects but I think less than $40 would be more appropriate. I'm going to try to do the Wicker Park/Bucktown tour though...so I'll make the stretch. Thanks for introducing me to new places that I can't wait to visit again (Spice Merchant and Old Town Oil for sure!).

Interesting tour and perspective

Very interesting tour of the near north neighborhoods. I was very impressed with our tour guides - extremely knowledgeable, genuinely friendly, and decidedly passionate. We enjoyed the historical and architectural info, which was heavier at the end of the tour (would have liked a bit more historical info about the areas at the beginning of the tour, especially the Rush St area). Heralding this partially as a "food tasting" was a bit of a stretch. Aside from the final stop'shearty slice of pizza, there wasn't much substance. The 14-year old with me was starving by the end of the 3 1/2 hours, even though we had eaten a large breakfast late in the morning. All-in-all, it was a fun experience. We told our local Chicago guests that we would recommend the tour overall. Adding a little more commentary and lore about the area at the beginning (shorten up the tea stop) and augmenting the tastingpart would enhance the experience.

Who knew that 18 year old balsamic vinegar tasted so incredible? This tour took us to Chicago neighborhoods and locations we might've overlooked. We enjoyed the knowledgeable and humorous tour guides (especially the one who exclaimed "I'm such a nerd about the World's Fair!"). We gaped at gorgeous archectecture, sampled some tasty food, and got some exercise. Loved the tour!

A fun and educational tour
Sat, May 9  1:00 PM stuecard1 Male 50-59 Local Other
To start with the tour was extremely well organized and our host (Shane) was extremely personable and knowledgeable. The tour mixed in information on each of the foods we were introduced to with a myriad of facts about the areas of Chicago we were walking through. The tour was very well planned and scanned the spectrum from tasting exotic oils and vinegars to learning about rare spices, from tasting homemade hummus to sipping unique teas, from sampling incredible chocolate to devouring one of a kind stuffed pizza. My recommendation is to book early because this tour will sell out fast. There wasn't one person that I spoke to in our group who wouldn't go back again with a group of friends or relatives (even the hard to please ones!), including us! Well done Chicago Food Planet, we look forward to trying your Bucktown tour in the near future!
