| It was a very good experience and I strongly recomend it to someone who is visiting chicago for the first time, just moved here, living here but never really explored the city before.. It is a good weekend thing to do! plus you get to know the history of the dowtown (which is quite interesting) from the very enthusiastic and well read tour guides. Also, we got a bunch of cupons for some really interesting stores in the downtown...makes you wanna go there again:) That was money well spent!! | ||||||

"Food Tasting" Tour Does Not Live Up to Name

| We were expecting a tasting tour and were very disappointed. Started off with 1/2 a potato pancake at noon and didn't taste anything of consequence until a piece of pizza at 3:30 PM. In the interim "tasted" oils and balsamic vinegar, spices, tea, a cube of cheese and hummus on one cracker and a bite of chocolate. Tour guests joked among themselves as to the frugal nature of the tastings. Very poor value for $40 per person. Guides were excellent. Very lively and knowledgeable of the walking areas. Too bad that they were burdened by the poorly conceived "tastings". This tour could be something great if someone would put some effort into the food content. I do not recommend this tour. | ||||||

| Our guide was wonderful. I was by myself from Oklahoma and I decided to do the tour while my husband was in a meeting. I met 14 fun women with their daughters from Tennessee, and was adopted by the group. A fun time was had by all, and I left feeling as though I now had 15 new friends (tour guide and Tennessee ladies). Thank you! | ||||||

| Was surprised at the size of the tastings...whole hot dog at Georges, each getting a cup of hot chocolate at Hot Chocolate, and a piece of pizza and a flight of beer at Piece. Plus each getting two truffles at Coco Rouge. We enjoyed the demonstration at i cream....what an interesting concept!!! Our tour guide Kurt was very knowledgeable and entertaining. | ||||||

| I've done both the food tours now and have to say I enjoyed the downtown tour better. Food-wise: River North tour brings you to a greater variety of places and gives you a tutorial on spices, on olive oil/vinegar manufacturing, on what goes into you deep dish. Bucktown tour I was REALLY disappointed in the description, and flavor of some of our samples. Several stores weren't welcoming (Goddess & grocer), and we didn't even get to enter Milk & Honey (one of the listed eateries). If I just wanted samples, I could have gotten them on my own and not paid to go on a tour just to walk past the restaurant because "it's too busy at this time". I was also hungry soon after the tour. Culture/learning-wise: While both tour guides were wonderful, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable, there was just a lot LESS to learn about Wicker Park/ Bucktown area. I also found that we were told a lot less about what makes the eatery we visited SPECIAL or different!!! Walking-wise: There is much more walking to do in the downtown tour, but it makes you feel really good! You get enough time at each eatery to finish your samples. The Bucktown tour was much less walking and I felt hurried at many eateries to finish and leave. Overall, I'd recommend the downtown tour because i felt like I got my money's worth from BOTH food and culture. The bucktown tour gave us hit-or-miss samples (Pizza was fantastic, beet salad not-so-fantastic) and made me feel like I should shove my food down and go or eat on the run! However, I enjoyed MOST of the eateries selected by Chicago Food Planet and may return to the several more special ones. | ||||||

| We loved the food tour. Our guide was very knowledgable and fun. There was a lot of walking, which I loved. The foods we sampled were very good. Some of the stops that we made, such as the tea shop and the oil and vinegar shop, were fun and interesting. I would never have gone into those shops if I weren't on the tour. We went back to purchase things from each of those shops. To add to the food sampling was the very informative and interesting discussion of the various buildings, homes, and hotels. We would highly recommend this tour. | ||||||

Bucktown / Wicker Park - Good mix!

| Overall, this tour was a good mix of historical facts about the development of the culture/neighborhoods, as well as food tastings at various establishments. The group that I went with was a mix of out-of-towners, as well as locals. Even the locals learned a thing or two about their very own neighborhood. We enjoyed how the tour went though some neighborhoods to look at various homes' architectural style/history. A little more of that would be great (more about specific buildings, etc.)! The food tastings were very generous...we were by no means hungry when we left. We didn't need to eat lunch that day and we were fine until dinner time. I will say the hot chocolate was delicious, but VERY rich! The pizza was wonderful! The ice cream sample at iCream was very unique and flavorful. I would definitely recommend giving this tour a try! You'll find some great little places to eat and learn some history that you may have otherwise never known about. | ||||||

| We've been to Chicago many times but for the most part stayed in the downtown/Lincoln Park area. If you want to venture out and see a different part of Chicago, this tour is for you. Our guide was extremely knowledgable and well spoken. I can not think of one thing that I did not like. Next time we're in Chicago, we're going to do the other tour. My only advise is to come hungery! We ate an entire Chicago style hotdog, a huge slice of pizza, a cup of very strong hot chocolate, homemade Granola, pickled beets, 2 chocolate truffles, and ice cream. | ||||||

| This was a great tour that everyone enjoyed. We had delicious food samples and learned about various areas of Chicago. Our tour guide was fabulous -- enthusiastic and able to answer all of our questions. There is a lot of fast walking, so be prepared -- not recommended for those who have a hard time keeping up -- you cover a lot of ground. | ||||||

| Our tour guide was amazing! We learned so much more than just information about great food in Chicago. We also learned some awesome historical facts and about some interesting architecture tidbits. The food tasting was also fantastic. My favorite was The Fudge Pot. Amazing! | ||||||

Excellent walking/eating tour!

| This was a great way to get to know an interesting area of Chicago. The total walk felt like 2 miles although with all the stops, it was not tiring at all. The restaurants and stores we visited received us enthusiastically and clearly had a good relationship with the tour operators so it made the visits fun and interesting. The tour guide, Ariana was fun and knowledgeable. She was upbeat and engaged the group, asking questions and joking with the group in a way that brought everyone together. The tour highlighted interesting homes, buildings and elements of Chicago history that left one feeling better informed about the city and all that is available there. This tour shouldn't be thought of as an "eating" tour as much as a "tasting and savoring" tour - there's enough food to make you feel like you've had a satisfying lunch but it's not heavy hors'd'oeuvres at every stop so you finish the tour feeling energized and content. I would definitely recommend it! | ||||||

| This was by far our favorite sightseeing activity while we visited Chicago. Never would we have known about the different areas or stores/restaurants we visited while on the tour. We went back the following day to use our coupons and revisit! | ||||||

| This food walk was an excellent way to begin your vacation. The host was excellent and the information exceptional. I would recommend taking the tour at the beginning of your Chicago vacation, it provides valuable "local" information and gives you great suggestions for places to eat, and things to do. I do suggest eating prior to going on the walk, there is not as much food as one would think, however, the historical information was priceless. I plan on booking the other food walk through this site the next time I visit the Chicago Land area. Well worth the cost of the ticket ! | ||||||
