We went on the tour last week and we really enjoyed it! Our guide Emily was very friendly and informative. We were able to experience several neighborhoods in the city, learn some history, and eat some great food! I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting the Chicago area.

HIGHLIGHT OF OUR TRIP

l had taken this tour with friends while visiting Chicago last fall and loved it so much that it was the first thing my husband and I planned to do this year. He had never been to this wonderful city and loved the tour. We both enjoyed walking and sampling delicious ethnic foods while hearing about the history of the area. We had a different guide for each tour and both were knowledgable and fun. I look forward to taking it again the next time I visit Chicago.

If you like to eat or cook, this is more than just worth the time. I realized quickly that this was more than just some great food and exercise. What a wonderful time we had as we were lead through the small neighborhoods North of the river. Every stop provided us with tastes I believe only available in Chicago. Our guide Emily was terrific not only in keeping our group together, but keeping us listening with information about the people and places we were passing by. Each stop was ready for the group and had samples of there wonderful specialties. And it was a lot more than just food. Teas, spices, oils, and vinegars (Yes, vinegar can taste wonderful. Who knew?) were sandwiched in between the deli, candy shops, and a pizza parlor. The only difficult part of the tour was trying to figure out which tasting you liked best. Although shopping was prohibited during the tour, we took advantage of our coupons. Retracing our steps at the tours end, we purchased from every place except the candy, which we got plenty of on the tour. It's pretty obvious that some of the places visited were the best in there trade worldwide. It was without a doubt the best pizza I've ever had. You'll have to take my word for it, as I've had pizza from all over the world, to include Italy. I'll be having it shipped to Delaware on occasion. The Spice Shop is a frequent supplier to the chef's on the food network. In fact, there was on of their Chef's there that evening signing her new book (Got mine!). I will be a customer to them and Old Towne Oil for years to come. Not only would I recommend this tour to anyone (even if you're from the area), but wouldn't hesitate to do it again on my next visit to the Second City. Thanks again, Emily.

Fine, but not remotely worth 'regular' price 40

My guide Kent was terrific(!) and in addition to food tour was a joy to be around..and gave a good explanation of the 'essence' of Chicago, and its neighbourhoods. My complaint is of the food tasting. Granola in a cup on the run, and a tiny cup of potato salad....well just eliminate these...trite, cheap. The other tastings were interesting, though.

The guide was wonderful and it was interesting to see the different neighborhoods. I was disappointed that the pizza stop only had spinach pizza since I do not eat spinach. It would it have been helpful if the guide asked in the beginning if anyone would prefer plain pizza and then call ahead to make it happen. The pizza restaurant did not even have slices of plain pizza available.

Nicki was a wonderful guide on a tour through parts of the city we had never thoroughly visited. My husband and I both cook so the trips to the spice and oil shops were great finds in our book and will probably become regular stopping points for us. We are going to try to find time to go on the other tour as well.

Strongly recommend this tour if you are in Chicago for more than a few days. It gives you a great overview of the food and local specialities. They put a bit too much empathsis on the high cost food providers in the area, but it was well worth $40.00 tour fee. Lots of walking.

We would have appreciated knowing the marathon was scheduled for that day. Our tour guide was excellent. We plan to order from some of the food venues we visited.

Don't Pass This Up!

This was our second visit to Chicago and wanted to do a few more things while we were there. The walking tour with food tasting sounded like just what we as a group love to do. It is a good amount of walking, talking, tasting and photo ops. You will see how much more there is in the Chicago area that is completly within walking or EL train distance. We now can't wait to plan the next trip back to the hoods for some different types of shopping and friendly shop owners to buy from. Very cool for anyone up for a hike.

My husband and I had been to Chicago before so we were looking for something a little different on this trip. We were intrigued by the description of this tour and felt it would be perfect activity for a Sunday morning. Emily, our tour guide, did not disappoint. We enjoyed the beautiful weather strolling through lovely neighbourhoods tasting fabulous foods. I would highly recommend this tour and have already spread the word to everyone I know in Toronto!

This activity is a must do for Chicago visitors as it's a great way to see parts of the city outside of the downtown core and experience a sampling of food from local venders. The guide was very knowledgable about the food offers and city culture. Highly recommend.

I very much enjoyed the tour of food emporiums in this Chicago neighbourhood. As well as a delicious way to find out what the city had to offer, I learned lots about the history, architecture and city planning that makes Chicago what it is today. My favourite stops were the spice and oil/balsamic vinegar shops ... unique and interesting locations.
