Tour and Food

We have taken the other food tour twice and loved it. The food on this tour was fantastic! It seemed as though our guide spoke from memory and felt canned. On previous tours the guides felt less canned and more off the cuff.

For someone who just moved to chicago, our guide was enthusiastic and displayed his love for food and Chicago. Though we had already been to Hot chocolate previously, the other food places were great to learn about and dine in. Definitely would recommend this tour and will sign up for the other one as well

Our tour guide was Jen, she kept us entertained, fed and educated. Appreciated her comments regarding the 3 neighborhoods you pass thru on the tour. She got all of us involved during the tour, worked well introducing oursleves before we started the tour, she was great. The shops all nice and were all locally owned. Great Neighborhoods. At the "The Spice house" spot we had the chance to hear a presentation from the owner of the business, very informative. My wife and I had a great time - weather was perfect.

Not only did we taste a fun variety of foods and beverages, we learned lots of great details about the Chicago neighborhoods we toured and Chicago in general. Food, history, culture all received excellent attention. Our guide, Jennifer, was very skilled and forthcoming with any info we asked of her. This tour was one of our first choices when we were planning our Chicago vacation, and it definitely was worthy of being on our itinerary. Foodies and culinary types will love this tour too.

I thought this was a great activity. I don't live too far from Chicago and the restaurants change so often, this was a great way to explore them while also learning more about the history of the Chicago villages.

The tour was great, it is highly recommended. Nikki (Tour Guide) was very informative regarding Chicago and the neighborhoods. We would definitely do it again on our next visit to this great city. Mr/Mrs. Wm Heffernan Clinton, NJ

Good food, great tour. We learned about the Chicago neighborhoods, buildings, and of course, great places to eat. I impressed my Chicago friends (I am from San Francisco) with my knowledge of local eateries that they did not know about. This tour is worth every penny.

A must thing to do when in Chicago!

Everything was great. I would have paid a bit more, given the lunch places were better, and with better food. Also I would wish tour was not as lengthy. half hour less would be great.

Good historical and present look at these areas. Guide pointed out hot spots and we sampled the local cuisine. Great if you are looking to return to the area for some food and night life at a later date.

I've lived in Chicago for 4 years now and I have only been to one of these great places that we went to. Plus the historical and general depth of knowledge of the specialities of the stores was great. If you like history and good knowledge then its a great tour, but as a great bonus, you get to eat amazing food.

Chicago Food & Cultural Tour
Sat, Sep 12  11:00 AM Childree Male 70+ Domestic Tourist(s) Individual
My wife and I very much enjoyed this tour. Two things stand out: first, a brief review of the architectual and cultural aspects of Near North Side of Chicago was quite interesting and not something you get on the big tour buses. Our guide, Jennifer, was quite knowledgeable about the area (s). I especially enjoyed the walk through the Gold Coast area and seeing some of the homes there - Florsheim and Playboy Mansion stand out. Jennifer knew the prices of the condos that are being converted from the old mansions. Second, the foods and accompanients on Wells St. in Old Town was also interesting. I think this part of the tour is mostly for the ladies, but I particularly enjoyed testing the oils and vinegars at Old Town Oil. I wanted to take some home, but cannot due to restrictions of liquids on air flights. We both enjoyed the deep dish pizza in Lincoln Park. One thing I would have enjoyed on the food tour would be a "Chicago hot dog". I have heard of these but not sure how they are different from other hot dogs. That about sums it up. Say Hi to Jennifer! Nice way to know something about the city!

The guide was fantastic, energetic and very friendly. The food was great, not too much because walking with a full stomach is very unpleasant, but not too little. It really worths the price. We enjoyed a lot, specially the spices, oil&vinegars, teas and chocolate shops. We would definitely repeat it!! and we came back to our country with tons of goodies!

Great tour that surprised me

This was a great tour. It started out with a sandwich at a great Jewish deli, then went to a great tea shop where we got an education about tea and left wondering why coffee is so predominant in the U.S. when tea is the #1 beverage everywhere else in the world. Then it was off to the Spice House which will be getting internet business from me. I've never seen a better selection of organic, fresh spices. Then next door to Old Town Oil, which was my favorite stop. We did an olive oil and balsamic vinegar tasting...don't knock it! We left with a bottle of the best olive oil I've ever tasted and will be ordering the 18 year aged balsamic! Then it was off to the Fudge Pot--yeah, chocolate! Then to a catering and chocolate place, then ending up at Bacino's Pizza for authentic Chicago stuffed crust pan pizza. It was a wonderful and surprisingly educational tour. Highly recommended.

My wife and I had a great time on the food tour. The guide was delightful. The 7 food stops were excellent choices - places that we would not otherwise have discovered. Highly recommended.

Great Experience for Chicago Visitor
Sun, Sep 6  12:00 PM jrichards Male 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
This was a very worthwhile experience. The amount of walking was reasonable, unexpected information about the city and the neighborhoods was well received, and the guide was very enthusiatic and capable. My one criticism, and not a major one, is that the promotion of the sights visited needs to be toned down. The tour itself promotes the locations visited, and talking about coming back to patronize the merchants is unnecessary and distracting.
